Have one of those, use it for most 8bit computers I have including Commodore machines.
A rather versatile monitor due to the many ways how you can connect old computers to it, even an old VCR ☺️
tes_kitty@reddit
The only one better is the 1084 since it can do CVBS / S-Video like the 1702 but also RGB analog (Amiga) and RGB digital (C128 VDC).
Kakariki73@reddit
Correct, have no 1084 but I do have one of those MSX monitors as well and they had SCART, and with SCART you're pretty much solid when you don't mind wiring your own cable you can use RGBi and S-Video aswell
tes_kitty@reddit
S-video over SCART depends on the monitor. Only a small number can do it.
Kakariki73@reddit
True, a monitor that has a SCART connector doesn't mean that it has all capabilities, that MSX monitor does.
I would love to climb on the attic to see what specific model I have and make a pic while I'm at it but with 33C outside my attic is now an unsurvivable environment 🥵
tes_kitty@reddit
You should take it down from there anyway... Even a monitor doesn't appreciate being cooked.
I do have an old CRT TV that can do RGB and S-Video over Scart... using it for my PS2 with an RGB cable.
Kakariki73@reddit
Same here, my old Samsung 42" does the job now mostly, hence why that old monitor is on the attic.
I do agree that heat isn't good for most electronics but my attic is never humid because my heater kettle, for warm water and house heating, is there aswell.
I rather risk the heat than condensation
P.s. one important advantage that this 42" has is... I don't need my glasses to read the screen, getting old sucks 🥸😂

A quote a coworker liked to use: Getting old isn't for cowards.
bhgiel@reddit
A 1702 missing the front plate.
potsofjam@reddit
Someone should 3D print a bunch of front plate for these and sell them on eBay. The plates always seem to be missing.
bhgiel@reddit
Ive had 3 of these. 2 I picked up with the door intact. One of them the second I got it home my hand slipped and destroyed the poor little door :(
3d print is a good idea, I bet someone has the file out there. Im going to look into this.
goalump@reddit
I prefer 1701
Fit-Rip-4550@reddit
Essentially a monitor for a computer but it might as well be a television with the right hookups.
Noodler75@reddit
It says "Video Monitor" right on the front.
SQE_is_on_reiddit@reddit (OP)
I know
Zusuris@reddit
Then why do you ask so stupid questions and waste everyones time?
Kakariki73@reddit
One of the better known monitors around from those days but my name isn't Mr. Google 🤪
Impossible_Stomach26@reddit
It also says the model number right on the front
gnntech@reddit
Looks like a work room/workshop with a few OG Xbox 360s and a model roadway with cars and stuff.
Rich_Nieves@reddit
I have one of those
Megaboz2K@reddit
Looks like an office chair with something on it
maidestone@reddit
Pretty sturdy looking office chair, too.
Lanky-Peak-2222@reddit
It's the same thing as what they told you on Facebook
Baselet@reddit
Yes.
ChonkeyPotato@reddit
My parents bedroom TV for the better part of 2 decades to watch their VHS tapes 🤣
stormwaltz@reddit
It's got wheels! :P
DNSGeek@reddit
Sure do.
rounding_error@reddit
It's the bomb John McCain drops down the elevator shaft.
Kopfschmerzen@reddit
Damn! I had that exact one as a kid.
pmodizzle@reddit
That could be a Video Monitor Model 1702
geirmundtheshifty@reddit
The post comes across as pretty patronizing, but congrats on having such a fine monitor! I'll admit to being pretty envious.
PrincessLaserMagic@reddit
Commodore 1702 monitor. Composite video and mono audio input jacks on the front, and LCA (luma/chroma/audio) jacks on the back, with a switch that selects between the two. The LCA jacks can be used with a Commodore 64 and some Atari 8-bit computers, or can be adapted to accept s-video input. They’re one of the best composite monitors of the era outside a trinitron. Anything SNES or older looks great. PlayStation and newer still look great, but really need a larger screen.
Flybot76@reddit
Dude quit posting this idiocy
BobChica@reddit
It says Commodore and Model 1702 right on the front.
It is a 240×480i color monitor that can accept composite (front) or Y/C (rear) input and mono audio. A simple adapter cable can be used to connect S-Video to the Luma(Y)/Chroma(C) ports on the back.
ryguymcsly@reddit
Damn. Lucky.
TristeroDiesIrae@reddit
Commodore 1702 composite video monitor. Obviously intended to be paired with a Commodore 64, but with the right cable, quite possibly the finest era appropriate monitor available for an Atari eight bit, as well.
kriebz@reddit
Yes
K1LL-B1LL@reddit
Lucky bastard, it's a commodore 64 monitor, if it's broke I'd say it's definitely worth fixing!
SQE_is_on_reiddit@reddit (OP)
Yea it works
ludlology@reddit
yup
royaltrux@reddit
yes
