Advice

I’m a 13 year old boy looking for an ebike that I can legally ride(class 2) in my state as well as being relatively cheap. 1,000 dollars is my budget but I am willing to go over if need be. I’m around 5’2 at 105 pounds and I prefer moped style e-bikes but am willing to consider other options. A throttle would be nice since my neighborhood is very hilly and spread apart. Thanks in advance

I am from Brazil, have a trixx raptor pro 1000w, I will let a picture, it's great, it's acid lead battery but in future I will change, but with it still greats, gets 32km/h blocked and 55km/h unlocked, rave a range of 35 km at medium, but I just discharge it at 50% normally, a throttle is great, mine have a seat much comfortable and big and tires tubelles, I recommend buying brusheless motor at least 1000w, I payed R$8,000 but you find about R$6000, around $1000 bucks, here if it's locked we don't need habilitation or be in the adult age, have some others like eco duos, and etc, just go on a store and test some of them, with this budget you can get a good one, I recommend trying before buying and a 1000w model doesn't need pedals or assistance even on high climbs, just try some models and go for what you like most, how much more ah on the battery better will be the range, there some options with two lithium battery that should last 60om/h to more

That’s a nice looking bike, great choice. Seems powerful too.

Scooter-style e-bikes are usually illegal under 15 or 16 years. So are throttles. Make sure to look up both your local AND state laws on e-bike usage and age limits so you don't get into trouble and lose your bike.

I'd recommend that you check local shops and see if they have anything for you. Your price point is fairly low and it can be hard to get someone to work on a bike that they didn't sell. If you buy from a local shop, you'll have someone who will keep you on the road.

Good idea, although I don’t have any electric bike shops within my vicinity. Do bike shops charge more than buying online?

Probably. Servicing a bike after it is sold costs money. Actually responding to warranty claims, providing technical support, maintaining a stock of parts, getting trained on how to work on the bike. All of these things cost money.
After sale service tends to drive the manufacturer to make a higher quality bike. You'll think twice before using a cheap part if you know it will come back to you if it breaks.
The brands that sell direct to consumer out of China are cheaper up front, but it is much more likely that you will have problems, and if you have problems, you are on your own.

You after setting yourself up for disappointment with a moped style bike. The seats aren't adjustable so there is no way to know if you can reach the pedals. You may outgrow it as well. Almost all of them are poorly made.

The VELOTRIC fold 1 light is a class 2 e-bike shipped that has a 500 w motor so it'll meet most state restrictions and has nice beefy hydraulic disc brakes and a UL listed battery. Plus it's right within your budget and they have excellent customer service from my experience

I recently got this bike and its super affordable and rides smoothly, especially on rougher roads, it handles well with the bigger tires.
It originally retails for 1600 but its on sale for 1k now! Highly recommend the bike

Depending on where you live, some places ban ebikes for anyone under 15, and a throttle for anyone under 16. Some jurisdictions allow under 15 to ride, but it must be class 1, under 250 or 500 watts and no throttle. Check local and state regulations where you are first. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!!! And follow the rules of the road! Ride DEFENSIVELY! That means protect yourself, even if you believe the other driver or rider is in the wrong! DON'T TAKE RISKS!!! No tricks except in areas where that is allowed like parks that ALLOW EBIKES! Slower is BETTER! Don't get something that goes 30 mph! If you plan on riding this thing for a long time, you will follow this advice, because otherwise it will get taken away or you will lose it to regulations. These are not bicycles! They are equipment to be used properly! If more people ride appropriately, less regulations will be needed and you won't have to worry so much about them changing the rules so you CAN'T ride anymore. Also... please have fun! If you do the right thing, an ebike can give you a sense of freedom and adventure that can't be matched in youth! I hope this helps!

I think studying a book of laws of how riding and go with friends or father's that have habilitation, ever stop when is stop or red, and thing that everyone on the road is crazy, like say in my country drive for you and others, be very careful, taking this is a good choice
Hour-Ride-1921@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the advice. I’m always sure to wear a helmet and am going to invest in a full face helmet. I’ve planned to keep the speed around 20 mph. Thank you again

I have a Jasion EB 6, but the EB7 2.0 is fairly cheap at the moment, and they are awesome bikes. Just as a starting point for ya.
Hour-Ride-1921@reddit (OP)
Cool. Looks like a great bike. Is there an option to limit the speed? 28mph is illegal for me to ride
Timus52003@reddit
Yes, the speeds can be limited. I would go with something a little less powerful for you, and if you search on Amazon for these bikes and look under the recommended section, I'm sure you'll find something similar that will work out for ya!
Hour-Ride-1921@reddit (OP)
Works for me, I’ll check it out.👍

I’m a Marylander if that helps

Have you looked at Qlife?
Hour-Ride-1921@reddit (OP)
I do have a garage yes, but you’re right that 70 pounds is a little heavy. I just checked qlife out and it seems pretty legit, I’ll talk to my parents about it

check out the 20" racer model, it has an adjustable seat you can adjust as you grow
