The HHS is trying to schedule an 7-hydroxymitragynine.

The HHS and RFK Jr. are trying to schedule an isolated alkaloid from a plant called Kratom. This alkaloid, along with kratom in general, has been taking money and patients out of the hands of big pharma. I'm not claiming that 7-hydroxymitragynine is absolutely safe, and has no problems with it, but it is safer than any other opioid manufactured by big pharma. It does not cause respiratory depression, and has a rather high safety profile.

I'm curious what eveveryone'thoughts are. The FDA tried this in 2016, and we fought back against scheduling a plant that is safe, relative to something like tylenol, let alone pharmaceutical opioids.
If you feel strongly about this, we could use some help in pushing back against the scheduling of a safe alkaloid, that has helped countless people get off harder drugs. From personal experience, and the experience of a friend and 2 brothers, I know this can and will help people get off pills, heroin, or alcohol.

What can we do about it
MetalAsAnIngot@reddit (OP)
There are a few petitions and organizations like 7Hope that will push back against the fake science that AKA has been pushing
shyne0n@reddit
Are there politicians we can call? Where do i find the petitions?

Kratom is amazing and it baffles me how much misinformation there is about it online.

Kratom literally saved my life (and most likely others, from alcohol. I was drinking between 15-20 shots/day, showing up everywhere hammered, barely making class, puking blood in the bathrooms at work/school and drunk driving everywhere. One night I was too hungover to get more booze (a rarity) and got some kratom instead. Within 6 weeks I had quit alcohol entirely, in 6 months my grades recovered, and in a little over a year and a half, I graduated and passed my boards with the highest score of my class. It terrifies me to see what happens if this was removed from my life as I drank to cope with my BP1 disorder.
6.5 years sober, homeowner, and still hold my medical licensure, all thanks to this little miracle plant.
I’ll do whatever it takes.

Powerful testimony. Thanks for sharing and you’re not sponsored like a congressman

Thank you! 😊

Sign up for the American Kratom Association email list. Often times when they try to fight criminalization of Kratom they give you a chance to send testimonials like this to the various representatives.
Kratom helped me a bad burn victim get off of hard opiates and expensive pain clinics once a month. So every time a state tries to criminalize this option for people like us I always send in my personal experience and sometimes donate to the cause.
AKA has even had some states reverse previous bans, although its been a steep uphill battle with a ton of money on the other side. But hey if you believe in individual liberty and autonomy as well as consumer choice then its a just cause.

Thank you for this! I’ve honestly been a little on edge today since I got the news from the thread this morning, not only due to the potential for loss, but also worried that I would have to sit on the sidelines and watch it happen!
MetalAsAnIngot@reddit (OP)
Mac Haddow definitely played a role is saving kratom last time around, however, he seems to be the main culprit behind the banning of 7oh, it was revealed he paid for 100 protestors in las vegas 3 or 4 weeks ago in front of the convention center. Picket signs and all.
lol_like_2_real@reddit
The AKA is part of the reason 7oh is being targeted as its cutting into their members profits.
Nikadaemus@reddit
So happy for you
Yes, it has immense healing potential for substance abuse, like psychedelics.
The only caveat, is they are safer when used in conjunction with a psychologist (not psychiatrist as they are drug pushers)

Same boat, it saved my life, and saved my two brothers lives. Unfortunately, big pharma had its hooks in my father after 7 or 8 surgeries due to a car wreck, and he OD'd on 3 types of doctor prescribes opioids, after years of using them. I believe in my heart of hearts he would still be alive today if he had known about kratom.
For myself I was like you, I was fucked up on alcohol and pills 24/7, everywhere I went. I just wanted to stop feeling anything besides the drugs. One day I was in WD from pills and went to a smoke shop and the guy gave me a sampler of kratom capsules, and the rest is history. I have a steady career, I'm married with a kid, I have a home, and a vehicle. I have a good relationship with my family and people trust me and can rely on me when they need help. I would not be the man I am today without Kratom

First off, I’m so sorry to hear that and it angers me to no end that things like this can take place in society and in the end, nobody is held accountable. I always say while murder is illegal in the US, killing people most certainly isn’t so if you’re interested in that, just make a career change. I shouldn’t even be able to feel any validation making a statement like that, yet the world we live in has normalized this standard of conduct.
Secondly, with the best turn of feeling, it makes me incredibly happy to hear another success story! It’s one of those points in life where you can look back and for once, after living the life we did, wonder how much worse it could have gone and not what we probably missed out on. All the best to you and everyone you love, and I hope for nothing less than another day that adds to your story of triumph!

That’s fantastic! Congrats as well! Fingers crossed the lifeline isn’t taken away! I’m pretty sure I’d have to leave the country because it would only be a matter of time til I went back…

HHS is moving to schedule 7-OH, a step that could affect research, accessibility, and the legal status of kratom-related compounds. It’s definitely a development worth keeping an eye on.
Ok-Orange7456@reddit
HHS is pushing to officially schedule 7-OH, which could seriously affect research, accessibility, and how it’s legally handled. This move might change the landscape for kratom and related compounds, so it’s something everyone interested in this space should keep an eye on.
Ok-Orange7456@reddit
HHS is planning to schedule 7-OH. This would mostly affect legal sales and research rules, while personal use likely wouldn’t change much. It’s more about regulation than targeting users.
Ok-Orange7456@reddit
HHS is moving toward scheduling 7-OH, which could bring stricter regulations on how it’s sold, distributed, and used in research. For most people using it personally, day-to-day use might not change much, but legal access could become more complicated. Researchers and vendors would likely face tighter rules, and some studies might require extra approvals. So, it’s less about targeting individual users and more about controlling the legal and scientific side of things.

Ok-Orange7456@reddit
If 7-OH ends up being scheduled, the biggest changes would be around legal access and research rules, not how individuals use it day-to-day.
Ok-Orange7456@reddit
Scheduling 7-OH could mean more oversight, affecting research and general availability without targeting anyone specifically.
Ok-Orange7456@reddit
HHS is trying to schedule 7-OH, which could really change how it’s regulated and accessed. Definitely something anyone following kratom derivatives should watch.

Ok-Orange7456@reddit
HHS is pushing to schedule 7-OH since it comes with some risks. They want to make sure it’s handled safely while research continues to understand it better. Makes sense to keep an eye on it.

This shit is the reason overdoses have dropped in a lot of areas. You don’t fall asleep places. You don’t puke everywhere. You don’t stop breathing It’s literally the safest out of all opiate like drugs and should be regarded as a miracle. People have been doing opium for centuries and they haven’t been able to stop it ever. Maybe let people take the shit that’s not causing mass casualties everywhere. I personally don’t take it because I was addicted to heroin for seven years. But how many of those people that I knew that died would’ve been alive if they could’ve taken this shit instead of finding a random dealer where they didn’t know the strength of their dope.
Comfortable-Finger-8@reddit
7oh can definately make you fall asleep places lol, if I take to much it basically forces me asleep but like you said, the upside is that it's basically impossible to die from it since it doesn't cause respiratory issues like oxy and fent so you know you won't die even if you take to much, at worst you just throw up.
tiredoldwizard@reddit
I meant you’re not really gonna fall asleep on a park bench because you stopped to tie your shoe for 5 seconds. I could be wrong though I’ve only seen what some of my coworkers are like on it. I tried it once and fucking loved it but like I said ex heroin addict. Because I wasn’t one of those drink one beer and fall off the deep end type of addicts. I was the one that was really good at living my life as an addict. Which seems like the better of the two, but it just drags out your downfall over a long time.
Comfortable-Finger-8@reddit
You're kinda right, as long as you know your dose than you won't ever just fall asleep in town tying your shoe although If some newbie took way to much though I could see if happening but honestly in my opinion I don't even see 7oh as the type of thing to take while going out to town, I think it's best later in the day or after work when you get home and want to relax and play some games or watch a movie. Pain management is different though since you might need it all the time but in my experience you can take small amounts and still get great pain relief.

Revamping Criminal Code to only have the extracted molecules. Banning anything containing them

An outright ban is foolish. if used in moderation Kratom poses little risk to its users.
I do understand the issue of laboratories concentrating the intoxicating compound to get people high causes a danger to society, especially when many states still allow for the sale to children.
People need education first and foremost. I don't believe in the prohibition/schedulization of drugs but if it must happen do at least discover the medicinal uses first.
RocksCanOnlyWait@reddit
The FDA should return to being a label verification entity: Are the clinical tests valid, and are the claims of what the drug does supported? Have any side effects been disclosed? If yes, then let doctors and independent medical organizations determine what treatment to use.
natermer@reddit
Sounds like a really bad idea.
