Election season has begun in Serbia, what are the signs of elections in other Balkan countries?

Here is typical visiting elderly in rural Serbia, and 1 nanometer thin asphalt pavement to villages
YngwieMainstream@reddit
Look for people suddenly having brand new buckets.
cameliap@reddit
Macedonia. When they start talking about how Macedonians disrespect Bulgarians there it's election time.
ElkofOrigin@reddit
Signs of election season in Greece: You really should go to the beach, everyone sucks, honest, give us one more round to have fun please
Affectionate-Arm-405@reddit
Pamflets everywhere but without the proper recycling infrastructure so they end up in the garbage or the street
Vallen_H@reddit
No, they end up in the sea. My dad used to be the pamphlet distributor for a party he hated and he was emptying bags of pamphlets in the sea and one day he saw another guy doing that at the same spot for a different political party.
Affectionate-Arm-405@reddit
Why didn't he empty them in the garbage?
Vallen_H@reddit
Because they would find them and he wouldn't be paid.
fuggetboutit@reddit
Could burn them tho
Vallen_H@reddit
Probably but I still remember when the kids in school smoked a paper page of the schoolbook and it smelled like burnt plastic and toxic for the whole neighborhood for an hour...
Affectionate-Arm-405@reddit
They can't see them floating in the sea?
Vallen_H@reddit
nah, they melt and break apart, everyone knows the meta...
teaex11111111@reddit
giving out free stuff (flour, sugar or oil, buckets and pens with the candidates name or the party logo), handing out free mici, "helping" struggling communities (especially after a natural disaster - look at what Georgescu & AUR did a few weeks ago), paving a single road (that is so poorly done you can rip the asphalt off with your hand) and a lot of propaganda pictures for facebook
branimir2208@reddit
Hey, stop stealing are propaganda methods
Large-Assignment9320@reddit
To be fair, when billing for playgrounds in Serbia, around 200.000EUR, Romanians would only bill 20.000EUR, so the numbers sounds realistic.
DrProtic@reddit
We had a 100k euro Christmas tree in Belgrade a few years back. And it wasn’t that special, just tall but plain.
Large-Assignment9320@reddit
So, 1k Christmas tree, and 99k in hidden bribes.
fuggetboutit@reddit
99k in the ruling party pockets*
teaex11111111@reddit
In my city we have a 140k euro public toilet
teaex11111111@reddit
asking a romanian to stop stealing is like asking the earth to stop spinning
WrongdoerInner4675@reddit
Hungary: copy-paste Also: taking insane amount of debt and giving it out on various forms, like tax-returns for families with multiple children, etc… not helping at all, as it just fuels inflation, but enough for the short-sighted people
PigsyH@reddit
No free mici tho
Substratas@reddit
Large-Assignment9320@reddit
It only has to look good enough for photos. Now imagine if Romanians learned of Photoshop.
Natural_Tea484@reddit
What if the Bulgarians learned to Photoshop their potholes?
tughbee@reddit
We are about to open small shops “the people shop” an idea by the biggest oligarch in Bulgarian politics where exactly this will be sold at lower prices. I think my country is cooked and i see no way out except immigration.
Infamous_Act9872@reddit
I've recently learned that your president is a great mathematician. Is he doing same pre-election routine? And how he is doing in general? Is Romanian folk ok with him?
Just curious.
Large-Assignment9320@reddit
I remember when Romania legalized corruption and forgot the Internet existed.

Albin Kurti talks about unification with Albania
biokaniini@reddit
At least he's realistic
TopBoysenberry8563@reddit
There is no way Kosovo will unite with albania
Connect_Hawk6060@reddit
Why?
Citaku357@reddit
Because of the constitution
f-your-church-tower@reddit
You can hold a referendum?
Citaku357@reddit
Nope it still needs to be approved by the other minorities like the Serb for example
f-your-church-tower@reddit
Just match what Vučić is paying and you'll have the approval.
Citaku357@reddit
Nah I don't think vucic is actually that dumb to allow Kosovo to join Albania. That's literally political suicide isn't it?
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
Oh yeah forgot about that one, little bit of nationalism always works for the elections
justmyaccount624@reddit
Do they ramp up kosovo talks on your side asw???
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
They are showcasing Kosovo less and less, due to people realizing that Vucic has been inch by inch recognizing Kosovo by withdrawing Serbian institutions from the north
Creepy_Parfait4404@reddit
I dont think vucic can do anything about that really, it is out of his hands
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
He signed the Brussles agreement, recognized Kosovo country phone code, licence plates, passports, diplomas, customs stamps, sports teams
Creepy_Parfait4404@reddit
The passport isnt accepted only the National ID
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
Its accepted, you can use Kosovo passport to enter Serbia
Main-Company-8331@reddit
Upvote for being remarkably patient.
Creepy_Parfait4404@reddit
Well the world has moved on, if he doesnt do that what do you think will happen, it is what the world wants from him.
And btw some of this things was because we made tariffs for you.
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
It was because he signed the Brussles agreement. One of the first things he did when he came to office was to sign it, that was why he was brought in by the EU
justmyaccount624@reddit
Our agend Aleksander Vuqiqaj is doing great i see 🧐
Citaku357@reddit
Bro stfu don't give him away like that
Tortja@reddit
hahahahaha per bes
Connect_Hawk6060@reddit
How is he withdrawing something? Kurti is closing them.
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
Withdrawing the workers, and closing the actual institution within the Serbia's system. Then the Kosovo police comes and seals the place
Aioli_Tough@reddit
The workers that were withdrawn were from the Kosovar institutions AFAIK.
The Serb parallel ones were closed down, many still had workers inside.
What was crazy is from what I’ve heard police officers in the North got paid both by Serbia and Kosova.
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
In all videos the buildings were empty from both inside and out
Dafke98@reddit
Hear me out - I am dead serious to think that Vučić and Kurti are, not friends, but partners and get along pretty well… when a scandal happens on any of the two sides, or when elections roll, conventiently something flares up in northern Kosovo and diverts focus from whatever happened two weeks ago. Always pefrectly orcestrated.
I think that Kurti didn’t “back him up” after Novi Sad canopy collapse because election preparations were under way in Kosovo.
vllaznia35@reddit
I read once that Vučić and Thaçi called each other by their first name.
theDivic@reddit
Unable-Stay-6478@reddit
That's nothing new. Milošević and Tuđman were partners as well...
Creepy_Parfait4404@reddit
Never heard that in any serious disucssion, have not even hears anyone mention it
Aioli_Tough@reddit
Exactly what I thought when I read the statement.
While I support him, He only brings up national unification when it's election time. And his governance for the last 4 years hasn't done anything to suggest he actually is interested in it.
Aenjeprekemaluci@reddit
Works as it fools a lot of people. Especially diasporoids.
Substratas@reddit

Lextalionis82@reddit
Hold up guys. We have elections in the Balkans? The photo contest with toothless elderly people are actually elections?
Legal-Hunt-93@reddit
Aww Portugal does the same thing in fact, it's almost municipal election time and we've started getting all the "me politician + old people" photos in billboards. We really can into eastern europe.

When I was student in Germany I visited croatian church on Sundays. I didn’t like polish one. I didn’t understand word from the preaching but one I’ve heard „abortion and euthanasia.” My first thought: there is election in Croatia and indeed it was next week.
Dafke98@reddit
The most notorious sign is pressure at work in government-owned businesses to vote for the ruling party, or face discrimination or layoff. Also, rallies are organized whose attendants are either brainwashed, forced to attend or paid to attend.
Rulling party billboards on every single corner and vandalized opposition parties’ billboards here and there. Streets are filled with ruling party stands that call people over.
Fluid_Muffin99@reddit
There are no elections in Serbia.
OkoMushroom@reddit
Macedonian parties accuse each others oligarchs of living lavishly, certain skeletons are preselected from their respective closets to be used as fuel for the fire, the ruling party by tradition makes the pensions go up and Albanians parties start warming up to compete in the oppression olympics.
HanDjole998@reddit
Ah the Corruption special
shurdi3@reddit
They start fixing potholes on the roads, cleaning the streets, concerts with z list celebrities, and party billboards everywhere.
jamesmb@reddit
Awful people talking crap to normal people who know they're talking crap, in a gargantuan effort to try to convince them that they're slightly less awful than the next awful person.
To be fair, this is true of most countries.
And when I say "most", I mean "all".
Madman44444@reddit
Cringe propaganda videos of politicians attempting (and failing) to connect with normal people.

pave that one dirt road in that one village that people (all of the 7 inhabitants, the 6 others have moved to Ferizaj or Germany) use more frequently that the other in such a pisspoor job but hey, progress guys
arcane_labor92@reddit
Up until recently, it was THE time to clean the streets in Sofia. So much so that, now they have actually started doing it regularly, elections are still the first thought that comes to mind.
kotrogeor@reddit

We don’t do real elections in turkey. That would imply that we have a democracy, which we don’t. Erdogan wins, and if he doesn’t then he’ll just rig it in his favour, or throw his opponents in jail.
Vallen_H@reddit
You forget one important thing: even if he loses and someone else comes to power, they magically grow the Erdo mustache and dead-cow stare in 3 days and start kissing kemal posters while people are burning.
HalayChekenKovboy@reddit
And then his opponents will start kissing his ass from jail, and the opponents that aren't jailed are just controlled opposition that goes with his plans anyway while lying to their voter base about "having a plan of their own".
I fucking hate this country sometimes.
StudyDemon@reddit
Exactly, that’s why I never vote out of principle. That, and the idea of me voting for an election that doesn’t affect my life in the slightest feels weird and unfair towards the people that have to face the consequences if I end up voting for someone that will bring ruin to the country. There is a reason why I’m born in Western Europe. Corruption is a cancer in turkey that will never go away.
Large-Assignment9320@reddit
Bulgaria, isn't there always an election, like 8 in 4 years or something. But same here, roads are pretty.
Accurate-Valuable-62@reddit
Having elections is actually the best part of any goverment…the period of 2 months before elections is what a real goverment should look like all the time,at least we expirience in those 2 months how our state should work 😂😂😂

wait I didn’t even know this…
MaintenanceFederal99@reddit
Honestly I just gave up with this region as a whole. Demographic pyramids and fertility rates of countries are terrible, which means more older people and higher chance of picking populist leader. In big cities prices are sky-rocketing, housing is less affordable which is ironic considering "standard is rising" (rising my ass) and every position of value in country is taken by a corrupt, shady boomer that has been on that position for 30+ years. I can't see how can this end ngl, maybe legalizing weed so we can act more naive and chill while society is falling into abyss.

Police ringing my doorbell to ask if I am satisfied with the safety and to remind me that they are now doing extra work to ensure the safety for my neighborhood even though this was never a problem or a concern. Also massive arrests for known drug dealers etc...
City services run on overdrive, street sweeping happening daily, new trashcans, parks renovated, no parking fines. 1nm asphalt repaving time.
Gov. employees suddenly getting a 20-50 EUR bonus that month to their paycheck. Pensions suddenly get higher.
Gov. agencies that regulate pricing suddenly decide to lower the regulated goods, so fuel/electricity suddenly gets slightly cheaper for 2 months.
Gov. decides to stir things up with Greece and Bulgaria to spicy up the nationalists (this one works really well).
-Koltira-@reddit (OP)
The police one is crazy holy shit, like a mobster making you pay him for "protection"
markohf12@reddit
No, not really, that one used to be common in the early 2000s, a police officer visiting to ask if you are satisfied with the safety was standard, but that stopped completely (because it's expensive), so now they only do it before elections.
CocoonNapper@reddit
Wow, so they would take feedback or it was more of a visit to see if they could dig up some dirt on something that's happening around the neighborhood?
