The prototype was cooler
adeadperson23@reddit
I know the 12 got all its improvements it was supposed to have eventually removed. Are these any better?
Bitter_Offer1847@reddit
The AK is like the Porsche 911, they just keep making the same car with slight improvements and then making them impossible to afford.

Yeah, exactly.Decades of small but meaningful tweaks on a proven platform.AK’s been evolving since the late 40's, swapping wood for polymers, adding rails, better barrels and modern optics compatibility.Like the 911,it keeps its iconic profile but performs better every generation and rare or tricked-out AK variants can cost way more than you’d expect for ‘the same old thing.’

Bruh ChatGPT, really?

Nope
Bitter_Offer1847@reddit
And the new ones are almost unobtanium

Exactly

Honestly, AK is a crappy design.
It's fundamentally heavy, bulky, has poor accuracy, and the optics don't hold zero.
pormigiana@reddit
None of that is true anymore
Entire_Judge_2988@reddit
AKs are only use shithole countries, but the special forces of those shithole countries use ARs.
Jack_547@reddit
Probably because those countries have massive stockpiles of AKMs donated to them during the Cold War, and logistically it makes sense to keep using them. The AK is perfectly capable as a service rifle and their ease of maintenance is a massively underappreciated benefit for an infantry rifle.
Regarding ARs being used by their special forces, it's because they usually have more financial leeway and can afford to buy a few hundred M4s, rather than re-outfitting their entire military with new rifles.
Bitter_Offer1847@reddit
The barrels on AKs also last forever compared to ARs shooting hot NATO ammo. An AK with a chrome lined barrel can easily do 30K rounds and keep limping along to 50K and you can lube it with motor oil or mechanical grease.
Turgzie@reddit
Old and un-modernized AKs*.
pormigiana@reddit
I think it's more a mixture of wanting to be like US SF and the standardisation of 5.56mm. Also because AR modifications can be procured easily from private companies. AK modification efforts are mostly state-led and usually aren't extensive or revolutionary as a result.
HasSomeSelfEsteem@reddit
Oh look! Another AK platform rifle which will never go anywhere and only exists to serve as state propaganda and a subsidy for arms developers.
magnuman307@reddit
I will never forgive them for making something that looks as cool as the prototype AK-12 and then just going "nah".
