If we trust veterans with firearms, we should trust them to choose how they manage PTSD.

That's the trick: The government doesn't trust anyone with firearms, and doesn't care about veterans, so they definitely don't give a fuck about the implications of a veteran with PTSD self-medicating with a substance that makes firearms more likely to be used in suicide.
Dave_A_Computer@reddit
It's working as intended.
Suicide voids out SGLI/VGLI, and it saves them on paying out disability, healthcare, and pensions.
SauceCrawch@reddit
Maybe I misunderstood, but if you’re insinuating that pot generally makes people more suicidal then you may have been misinformed.
The National Institute of Health in their most recent study claim that: “the relationship between trends in cannabis use and suicidality is not well understood.”
The Mayo Clinic makes a similar claim, as well: “it doesn't appear that marijuana directly causes depression.”
Don’t play into their bullshit, man. They simply just don’t want people to have access to something so helpful that you can easily grow on your own because it cuts into their profits.
PTY064@reddit
You absolutely misunderstood.
OP image is discussing gun ownership and medicating PTSD with alcohol vs marijuana, and highlighting the fact Trump admin wants to continue the ban on gun owners using marijuana, which implies it's ok for gun owners to use alcohol.
Alcohol is linked with suicidality, which is what I was saying the government doesn't care about.
Delicious-Act5233@reddit
Well said, Making sure the government actually acknowledges, has rules that make sense and Understands the effects is truly crucial. Also, understanding the freedom with responsibility people need to take is important generally speaking.
SauceCrawch@reddit
Gotcha. Thank you for the clarification.
redpandaeater@reddit
If anything veteran suicide is a great way to lower costs. Go figure having endless wars with few overall deaths leads to a ton of money needed for veterans benefits.
ScarsAndStripes1776@reddit
Exactly, government doesn’t give a fuck. Veterans are more dangerous with firearms because we know how to use them.
PhilRubdiez@reddit
Well, some of us. I worked in the range. It’s definitely not everyone.
PTY064@reddit
23/40 gang. Lol.
(Jk, my best qual was 38/40, but I know more than a handful of the rest.)
PhilRubdiez@reddit
I shot a 242/250 on my last table 1. I was so stoked. Most of my shooters did pretty well, but there definitely were always a handful every range that were just bad.
Independent_Can_5694@reddit
Lol the mental gymnastics people are doing here to keep from stating the obvious: big alcohol doesn’t want weed legal. So they lobby.

🤬
The_Dying_Gaul323bc@reddit
This is why Texas is falling apart right now. They had a HUGE veterans movement to legalize CBD not even THC, and the Gov still shut it down, so now they are all against him. The base is flipping
N3CR0T1C_V3N0M@reddit
Well until they figure out how to fact-check the ATF Form 4473, I guess we’ll just keep picking the right boxes.
When I was filling mine out, I audibly laughed (clerk definitely gave me the eye) when I came to the pair of questions about being mentally competent/involuntarily committed/using drugs because AFAIK, there’s no way to check this, and only the most honest or most crazy among us would check “yes.”
Lastfaction_OSRS@reddit
That form is more about the government stacking charges on you down the road. Got caught with weed and a firearm in Texas as an example? Well now they have you for possession of a controlled substance, unlawful carrying of a firearm (because you have weed), and now, just to too it off, lying on a federal form that you were not an unlawful user of marijuana.
weekendWarri0r@reddit
Lol I assume they assume all weed smokers are more likely to be democrats. These old ass dudes playing the same rules they played in the 70’s. We need some young bloom in our politics. These dead weight baby boomers are making big decisions on tech and AI, but can barely use their phone and don’t know how to operate a computer.
Delicious-Act5233@reddit
Highly agreed, it's not the fact that we don't like aged or old leaders but we need effective leaders with fresh, new and actually innovative ideas that actually have understanding of everything instead of outdated misinformation. I think bringing some young bloom in politics in general can be helpful.
TheLoneCanoe@reddit
No
kdawg-bh9@reddit
That’s what I’m saying too. After the old timers die off weed will be legal nationwide. I know so many Republican and redneck kids who smoke weed and drive their massive pickup trucks that smell like weed too. Pretty much every young person doesn’t really care.
Seen_Any_Elves@reddit
Just more micromanaging the lower income people.
Delicious-Act5233@reddit
Exactly what i hate about authority that does this. They always give promises of bringing order and always target middle class to lower class people and micromanaging. Absolutely repulsive and nonsensical.

I keep thinking there's no way the Trump administration could disappoint me further... and they keep proving me wrong.
Marvelous
ThatBadFeel@reddit
Hate seeing the anti-pot signage in some of these places. Good chance they partake themselves, or worse if they’re a functioning alcoholic they get a pass. At least go after both if you’re taking that stance.
chuckycastle@reddit
I get the “government doesn’t care about veterans” sentiment, and disagree. Sure, some folks are frustrated when they deal with a shitty VA employee; I dealt with a shitty VA doctor in 2005 and didn’t go back for 18 years. Once I got over myself and understood that I needed to put the work in to receive the benefits I earned, I ran into a shitty front desk VA employee and I wanted to never go back. But then I dealt with some good people, and am receiving good care.
It’s been my experience that folks that work at the VA, Post Office, and DMV don’t always have the best customer service chops - likely has more to do with unions than anything else.
That said, I’m not surprised that the administration is maintaining the status quo. I agree that alcohol and guns mix worse than weed and guns; and I know that most folks here aren’t fooled by why the government wants to continue the hardline regulations. I’d be surprised if 10-20 years from now they haven’t found the right “partners” to lobby for more weed acceptance and profit sharing.
hickfield@reddit
What about single parents or pastry chefs? Or railroad workers? Or the thousands of other groups this article has nothing to do with
DooderMcDuder@reddit
But alcoholics, meth heads, coke addicts, heroin users, and mentally ill people are good to go!
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
I've seen the qualifications it takes to join and be discharged from the military. I wouldn't trust a lot of veterans with the sharpener on the back of a box of Crayons.
MissingJJ@reddit
Yeah, Trump’s puppeteer’s don’t want a better world. They want drunk veterans with guns to mix things up.

Fake news: DJT47 is the mostest libertarian president ever, so this is made up crap...lies, all lies

Sad_Garbage4170@reddit
I don’t trust veterans with guns
Full_Ahegao_Drip@reddit
It's not actual concern for anyone, pot smokers, veterans or what else.
It's an excuse to make firearms just that much less accessible to the people.
onetwentytwo_1-8@reddit
Who’s going to know? 😂

Well yeah I’d fight it too. No more weed!!! (Glances nervously at the Tobacco Company Representative in the corner of the room with a gun)

Just another ploy to disarm more Americans , they won't dare do this to those that drink alcohol , free men do not ask permission
