Talking at the movies

Is it me, or do folks talk more at the movie theaters now than back in the day? It seems like every time I go out now, people continually talk throughout a movie.
DontStepOnMyManHood@reddit
Thankfully I don’t go to the movies anymore. Nothing worth watching.
Jeebusmanwhore@reddit
Why pay for overpriced tickets and snacks, be forced to sit in a room with a bunch of strangers, some of whom may have highly contagious illnesses, and not being able to pause the movie for a piss break?
OolongGeer@reddit
Because it gets us out of the house.
When you are in hospice, you are not going to be regretting all the time you spent outside and about, exploring your community and the world. You will be regretting the permanent dent you made on your sofa.
pepper_999@reddit
HAHAHA. I highly doubt someone on their death bed regrets not going to the movies.
OolongGeer@reddit
Could be.
I would definitely regret not having seen the original Star Wars movies in the theater. Or not having seen the Dick Tracy (1990) showing at the CIFF.
Jeebusmanwhore@reddit
There are far more things to do out and about than just a movie theater.
OolongGeer@reddit
Definitely.
Thankfully, I didn't suggest anything close to that.
I gave you an upvote. Can you imagine being one of those people who misunderstood a post and downvoted it? Jesus, would that be sad.
DontStepOnMyManHood@reddit
Agreed! I watch movies on my home theater system. Older movies that I like.

OolongGeer@reddit
Jesus. You are missing out on some great films via that stubbornness.
I loved the Phonecian Scheme. And our local historic theater (my go to) just screened Raiders of the Lost Ark. I hadn't seen it on the big screen.
That said, OP, I have not noticed that. Maybe change to an art film theater? Or at least more of a boutique theater?
SaltyBlackBroad@reddit
I've been finding good movies/shows from the 40';s and 50's on YT or Amazon Prime. It's amazing how there's so much more content crammed into one hour as opposed to today.
DontStepOnMyManHood@reddit
Tubi is free and has a lot of old movies available. Definitely worth checking out.

Netflix has made it so people think a movie theater is their living room. I've had people talking in normal voice throughout the movie, people texting and my favorite was the person who only put their phone on vibrate and proceeded to answer a call in back of me. Granted we were in the last rows but what happened to making them call you back or getting up and leaving the theater.
Yes, I'm now that "Get off my lawn" person.
PeterPunksNip@reddit
They do ... I remember a time where everyone would hush as soon as the lights dimmed and watched every second of the movie. They would exchange whatever emotions they felt during intermission, and shut up again until the end of the movie.
I miss that time. I used to go alot to watch movies, even on my own. Now it's only far and between, I wait for the Blu-ray to come out and watch at home. Hearing a crowd chattering is ruining the theater experience.
dianaprince76@reddit
I went to the theatre yesterday. As in broadway-level show. Tickets were 100$ on discount. And the lady next to me took an effing CELL PHONE CALL!!! Like, in the 4the row of a show with live actors. I could not believe it!
YouMustBeJoking888@reddit
I'm surprised they didn't chuck her out. That's extremely bad form during live theatre.
BFR5er@reddit
Tell them to be quite lol
Perle1234@reddit
Last time I went to the movies was nearly 10 years ago and it was a bunch of bullshit and I’ll probably never go again lol.
Chemical_Butterfly40@reddit
I only go to the movies for the Met Opera in HD, and am usually the youngest person there. The seniors don't stop talking and stay on their phones.
Status-Effort-9380@reddit
At the actual Met, people look at you funny if you so much as sneeze!
pommefille@reddit
Well this thread went slightly different than the one about this exact same topic a few hours ago

Choose better theaters. My wife and I mostly go to indie cinemas, and they don’t have this problem. It’s all grown-ups who know how to behave in public and are there to see a good film. And the managers of these places aren’t afraid to throw out nuisance customers.
dandet@reddit
It’s not as much as an event as when I was young.
ggibby@reddit
I have not been in a theater since I took my kid to see the re-issue of Close Encounters, and after all the commercials they showed a behind-the-scenes featurette that fucking spoiled the SFX.
Not answering OP, but that really put me off the theater experience.
That said, if the kid wants to go, we're going.
Justify-my-buy@reddit
It’s all about week day matinees. Rarely experience the obnoxious and it’s cheaper.
AhrinEss@reddit (OP)
This Is a good idea!
RogerMurdockCo-Pilot@reddit
Talking, cellphones, chickens (Minecraft), screaming kids. I don't even go to the movies anymore because society has devolved
9001@reddit
I don't find that where I am. Must be assholes where you live, sadly.
Ok-Ear-1313@reddit
Me too. I go to the movies about twice a month and have been for years and I’ve never had a movie talker or movie phone scroller disrupting my time.
I don’t tend to watch superhero or little kid movies, maybe that’s why?
Significant_Bid2142@reddit
The only way I go to a movie theater is when I rent the whole room for me and my kids and project the movie I want. Totally worth it, and not as expensive as you might think.
Whole_Craft_1106@reddit
I bet its more than $5 Tuesday’s with free popcorn.
Significant_Bid2142@reddit
Definitely, but there's an independently owned theater in my town where you can rent \~3 hours on Sunday. You do get free popcorn :)
MaximumJones@reddit
My home entertainment system is light years better than a theater. They can all bankrupt.
ohheyhowsitgoin@reddit
Its amazing how much money you can save living in mee-mah's badement!
Western-Host1384@reddit
Not just you. People don't know how to act anymore.
LetheSystem@reddit
Probably depends on what kind of movie you're going to. I'm going with other adults, not to kid movies, and there's no issue with talking or with phones. I guess we formed our etiquette pre-covid, or it's a generational thing?
TheLastMongo@reddit
One thing I noticed is with my kids. They spent the formative years for learning movie etiquette during Covid. Basically etching everything at home where chit chat was ok. When they started going back to theaters I had to keep sushing them because they want to talk and ask questions during the movie. I’m trying to teach them how to behave but well, kids.
Also having two on the spectrum, sometimes the movie is too much and we need to leave (opening of Maverick) Or during a viewing of The Matrix, one had an existential crisis over what is and isn’t real. Had to talk him down to try and finish the movie.

Sooo irritating
