2002 Turbocharged Nissan Maxima 6 Speed Project Build

Hey, What’s going on guys? I’m new to the group! My name’s Jeremiah and this is my Maxima project I’ve had for about 9 years. It went from a stock Daily, to a full Auto to Manual, then to a Full Bolt On all motor car, and now finally Single turbocharged with a swapped Maxima engine from 2009+ models. Hope you guys enjoy my progression from here onwards!

ive wondered if this was possible after the MCM turbo camry.

Tavarish would love this

I’d love for him or thatdudeinblue to do a review on it!

I did a 6 speed and vq-de-k swap in my 98. Ends up the guide I was using from whatever forum it was, was written by Tavarish long before he was even writing for Jalopnik.

I love everything about this. My homeboy's friend turboed one of the same gen and it was fast as all hell!

One of the cleanest Nissans out there, looking great!

It’s nice to see people still modding Maximas. I was part of 4SDC and Maxima.org forums back in the 90’s/00’s.
Looking good!

I just missed out on an ‘03 one of these with a 6 speed manual for $800 CAD. I was fuckin PISSED.

My old coworker had a similar build but he still hasn't bothered to get it tuned. He did the 09+ swap as well.
My best friend in highschool had an 03 Maxima and we had a lot of fun in that car. Rust ended up getting to it and we ran it at a 100lap "no yellow flags" junker event. Slapped some ancient snow tires on it and that sucker flew. The front passenger side strut area was terrible rusted so I used a piece of rebar hammered in there and some angle iron stick welded from an extension cord run to my oven socket in the kitchen. Ran for 90 laps until one of the CV axles blew apart. That car surprised some people at the drag strip back in it's prime haha.

As someone whose first car was an 03 Maxima (auto sadly), this hits hard. I feel like rust has stolen all the good 02-03s these days
Blueeitt@reddit
My first car was an auto 02 se. Still miss these things but ultimately the rust got to the rad support the same time the engine blew up so I gave up on it.

Good ol' NY road salt will do that. Even if you keep it off the road in the winter lol. Fluid film (or similar products) seems to be the answer. My friends early 00s Escape is still alive thanks to that stuff. I spray the crap out of the rear strut supports and everything that doesn't get hit underneath. 350k miles and still going.

You’ll be surprised! There’s some around here in FL that still look exceptionally well kept. All the ones upstate in Maine, NY, and NJ def suffer from this though

This is awesome; I'm a sucker for sleeper sedan builds. Don't see too many Maxima's getting love anymore and I support it fully.

I think it just doesn't help Nissan absolutely left the maxima out to pasture too long instead of trying to keep its sporty 4 door Z image. It just became too porky and putting a CVT in it seemed like the nail in the coffin for it; nobody wanted to pay for what was essentially now a bigger v6 altima, instead of being a real sports sedan.
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
I appreciate that man, thank you! It’s always a treat randomly surprising people with it

Love the build, but the upper radiator hose is driving me nuts. It needs at least two more turns in it.
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
🤣 There used to be silicon hoses for it but are discontinued.

This you?

First thing I thought of when I saw this post

This vid is a classic. 😂

Busterlimes@reddit
Why? You already own the fastest car on the road
sigilou@reddit
It's not an altima
Dinglebutterball@reddit
This is silly. Love it.
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
Thanks man
sir_defenestrator@reddit
This is pretty dang cool. What ecu/tuning options?
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
Thanks man! I’m currently using the stock Ecu but would like to switch to a Standalone like Ecumaster or Link G4+
sir_defenestrator@reddit
Cool sht! Low boost?
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
Yes sir, low boost. Original DE (2002 Motor) was tuned on 8psi making 425whp and was drove almost daily on 10. This time we’ll turn it up more with the Gen2 engine and see what it does with my E85 blend

Thats wild bro
rudbri93@reddit
this is fantastic
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
Thanks brother, you got a pretty sick build too!
Notchersfireroad@reddit
Sick as all hell! Is 02 a VQ or still a twin cam VG?
Mission-Attempt-5385@reddit (OP)
2002+ are all VQ35’s
