ULPT: Fake receipt bike purchase
Posted by sr2k00@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 123 comments
So my job allows a, once every 5 years, bike purchase of max 2000 bucks. To promote healthy living and whatever. This money you get tax free. Otherwise I can pay out the 2000 and it is the special tax rate, which is 50,33%.... Yikes.
How can I get a fake bill that shows I bought a bike of 2 grand? Like an electric bike or mountain bike.
Ok_Foundation3148@reddit
Meanwhile my company only offers $150 for work clothes every 18 months. Doesn’t even cover the cost of a decent pair of boots. And they’re still up my ass for submitting receipts that are over the $150 mark. Like, do y’all think I’m shopping at Walmart the 80’s? I’m doing this to prove a point.
spotspam@reddit
Find someone who wants the bike, but it, sell it was less than purchase to that person. Win-win
GhostOfTammanyHall@reddit
archangel5676@reddit
I will do you one better.
Buy the bike on amazon by using your card's incorrect cvv number. Order will get processed and invoice will be generated by the time they request for a revised payment 15-20 min later. By that time, download the invoice.
Wruin@reddit
I will do you one better.
Why is Gamora?
darealmvp1@reddit
Amazon will use backup payment for any cards on file
archangel5676@reddit
Not without your permission.
Deep-Hovercraft6716@reddit
If the card is on file as a backup, you've already granted permission.
Garbadaargh@reddit
You can turn off the backup payment option.
GoodGoodGoody@reddit
Important difference btwn an invoice and a receipt.
sr2k00@reddit (OP)
Thanks I might possibly consider thinking about this (this won't help in court FBI)
HighlightResident838@reddit
But the bike, take a picture with you in it, call cops in a few months and claim it was stolen and have insurance reimburse you. You get paid twice and also screw over insurance company.
Rachel_Silver@reddit
Your best bet is to find someone you know who needs a bike and has a bit of moral flexibility. Have them pick out what they want, then you buy it and submit the receipt. Sell the bike to your friend at a discount, and get some hookers and blow.
WesthoodTwist@reddit
Throw in a piss disc and liquid ass for good measure
xXCodfishXx@reddit
Damn 2000 for a bike is crazy. Like others said just buy the bike and then return it, or maybe find a friend or someone who's interested in a fancy bike and buy one thats 2000 and then sell it to him for like 1500 and everyone wins.
negativeyoda@reddit
I have multiple bikes that were more expensive than my car. $2k gets your entry level
mordan1@reddit
Having multiple 2k plus costing bikes is probably a factor in why you have such a cheap ass car 😂
negativeyoda@reddit
I have a cheap car because Hondas run forever and you can't service the new models nearly as easily. I have zero reason to upgrade and will likely drop a new engine in it at some point
Technoxgabber@reddit
Im buying a road bike for 8000 canadian.. and its not even the top end model
The high end stuff costs 18-20k
Versuchskaninchen_99@reddit
yeah and a Ferrari is way over any normal car, but that's not the point. There's always a product for people desperate to spend silly money
Technoxgabber@reddit
Yeah get a criminal charge for $50..
Ruin your business for $50..
bentmywookie80@reddit
2k is pretty "entry level" in the bike world. Bike prices are crazy with high end mountain and road bikes going for 12k plus. Pretty common for bikers to spend more on their bike than cars lol.
Blink3412@reddit
I just got into the sport, I can concur with this, I'm buying parts piece meal and building out a custom bike for myself, I figure I'll probably end up spending about 15k.
BirdFragrant6018@reddit
$150 bike from Walmart lasted me 5 years until it was stolen
AndyTheEngr@reddit
How many thousand miles did you put on it?
A-STax32@reddit
Bruh. I would highly recommend that you save yourself some money and figure out what you actually like by spending some serious time riding before you build a bike yourself. Also, work with a bike shop when you do build the bike, since they will be able to make sure for you that everything is compatible, you get components that will meet your needs/wants, and that everything gets assembled properly.
BirdFragrant6018@reddit
Walmart sells bikes for under $150
xXCodfishXx@reddit
Look I'm well aware I've done lots of road biking and mountain biking and mostly ride vintage bikes for that reason, but like a company handing out 2 grand for healthy living is wild I've never heard of that before.
GrandArcanian@reddit
It's 2k every 5 yrs. So $400 a year, which is not extreme.
My company pays us that into our HSA every year for promising not to smoke and taking an annual physical.
It's worth it to companies because they get discounts on heath insurance that far surpass what they give out to employees.
bentmywookie80@reddit
I hear yeah. I have a lot of friends in biotech and software and they get stuff like this all the time. I'm in healthcare, occasionally we'll get a voucher for meal at the cafeteria...
NoSoup2941@reddit
My last mountain bike was $7,500
BirdFragrant6018@reddit
$150 bike from Walmart lasted me 5 years until it was stolen
littlewhitecatalex@reddit
Don’t look at modern mountain bikes.
Prins_Paulus@reddit
Buy bike, show receipt, return bike
careenpunk@reddit
Yeah, that’s the “buy, flex, refund” strat just make sure you’re not leaving a paper trail that screams “fraud speedrun%.”
Flux_My_Capacitor@reddit
Not sure why this wasn’t obvious.
Tricon916@reddit
Waaaay overthinking it. Just open one of your Amazon invoices in Chrome. Hit F12. Change all the info to be a bike for $1927.56 (Don't want to be suspicious), hit print. Profit.
Maciejk8@reddit
No make it $2489. You will get the max 2k without being suspicious.
Vortex_Analyst@reddit
This is the right answer. NEVER make a bill what you are expecting to get, always go over.
Gaeus_@reddit
Short term, yeah.
Long term that's arguably fraud.
Returning the bike and having a legit receipt is so much safer imho
Sptsjunkie@reddit
To be clear, intentionally returning the bike and not returning the money is also fraud.
dumpitdog@reddit
It's a different kind of fraud and it's a much worse crime when you falsify documents.
Gaeus_@reddit
Yeah, but at least there's a form of plausible deniability.
"I bought the bike under peers pressure, but didn't have anywhere to store it".
If you get caught, that's infinitely better than sending a fake invoice to cash the money.
Sptsjunkie@reddit
I mean, maybe you get more leniency if they think it's an honest mistake, but it's still fraud, especially if they found say your Reddit account where you asked how to commit fraud.
Gaeus_@reddit
Sorry to be blunt, but why the fuck would they know my reddit account?
Sptsjunkie@reddit
Depends how much personal info you have shared.
Gaeus_@reddit
Thank god, I live in a country with GDPR.
PokeMasterRedAF@reddit
Now I have to google wtf GDPR is. Thanks bud…
Gaeus_@reddit
You laugh, but when I was a college teacher, I had a few students in a class (of MBA, of course...) that genuinely think of targeted advertising as a good thing.
This was in 2021, and I think it was a class of... 20 to 21 yo.
dumpitdog@reddit
That's exactly right that's 6 months in jail versus getting fired.
Jayteezer@reddit
Short term that's not even arguably fraud, it is fraud.
Gaeus_@reddit
Depends on the country #notyourlawyer
rtpkickballer@reddit
Fidelity used to have a program like this. Ended up firing a lot of people that were caught doing exactly this. Senior management within business units weren’t even allowed to make a case to keep anyone.

Intelligent-Win-5999@reddit
Simple solve but didnt even think bout it
nu1stunna@reddit
Don’t even need to go through all that. Buy a bike on Amazon, then once you get the confirmation email and/or the Amazon receipt on your order history, cancel the order immediately. You can be done in less than 2 minutes.
Mug__Costanza@reddit
Bingo
Checked_Out_6@reddit
This might be a crazy thought, but have you considered buying a bike and riding it?
thequackquackduck@reddit
We don’t do that here
Deep-Hovercraft6716@reddit
Op is an adult with a job.
Larto@reddit
there are many adults with jobs and, against all odds, bikes
maxisnoops@reddit
Stop being logical please.
Checked_Out_6@reddit
theXrez@reddit
That is exactly the experience riding my bike on the road
A-STax32@reddit
Could be OP already has a bike from the last time 5 years ago and doesn't feel the need to upgrade but still wants the cash
User_225846@reddit
Buy bike for $2k. Submit receipt for reimbursement. Sell bike for cash. Report bike stolen. File insurance claim on stolen bike. Receive insurance payout. Buy new bike.
Fuck I was so close.
beer_bukkake@reddit
Burn down house and claim bike was in it
EasternDentist5467@reddit
Good plan. But proving that the bike was stolen to the insurance company, would have been difficult.
GoodGoodGoody@reddit
If I buy an expensive bike I am registering that serial number on www.bikeindex.com that same day. If it later comes back stolen after you file your claim, trust me, I will be at your trial to give evidence once the police plug in the number after you file.
nzjester420@reddit
Wow, triple payout. Thats a rare achievement
ScoutTheRabbit@reddit
Find a cheap secondhand version of a nice bike that you'd like. Buy the nice new bike, scan receipt, then return.
COTimberline@reddit
Photoshop. I created a lot of receipts when traveling for my company.
estoopidough@reddit
Omg I used to make fake receipts to upload to Apple at my last job to get repairs done under warranty
PondRides@reddit
Just buy a two thousand dollar bike and sell it for 1300.
gb0143@reddit
Order a bike for pickup... And don't
Bitter-Session9959@reddit
It's easy, go to a bike seller, buy the bike, show receipt, say that this is a gift for your kid, return next day or some hours after, beg him to take the bike and gice you if not all the money the money he will get without tax because your partner doesn't like that you pay 2000 for a bike for your kid. Another way is simply going to the bike owner, asking for a bike, tell him you don't really want to buy it, but you'll write like you bought it, then he pays you less then he will take a small part of the money, like 50/100 dollars and still have the bike, then next you say your bike got stolen so none can suspect a thing
TheNozzler@reddit
AI generate , it’s surprisingly good at this
FluffyArm5042@reddit
google receipt templates, and there are websites with exact templates. Those people who are saying fraud shouldnt be on this subreddit. this is entertainment only.
Sea-Percentage-1992@reddit
Don’t these schemes usually have authorised outlets to purchase bikes, presumably to stop people doing that ?
hu_gnew@reddit
I'll write you out a fake bill of sale...for $2000.
Angrymilks@reddit
Fraud
StinkyDogsCunt@reddit
This isn't how any cycle to work schemes I've seen works.
salutmalibu@reddit
You can easily fake one, just look for a one on Amazon or eBay, and fake any receipt from there.
andytagonist@reddit
Step 1: tell me what job has this perk Step 2: buy bike Step 3: get reimbursed Step 4: return bike Step 5: come to Reddit and brag
petrolheadjosh@reddit
Order one online and pay for it. As soon as you get the email receipt just cancel the order. Done.
eaglesman217@reddit
Why don't you just buy the bike and actually ride it and live a healthy life?
Siphix108@reddit
Faking receipts is illegal and risky. Better to find a legitimate discounted bike and maximize the benefit without breaking laws.
Victorious1MOB@reddit
🗣️ THIS IS UNETHICAL LIFE TIPS!!!! 🤦🏾♂️
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Buy a bike at a local bike shop for around 2k, get the receipt then the payout then sell the bike for a little below what you paid (it’ll be easier to sell at a slightly lower price) show the buyer your receipt to prove it isn’t stolen
InevitableRhubarb232@reddit
Dang what sort of disposable $2000 bikes do they think people are buying every 5 years?
Southernms@reddit
Ask for two receipts or buy the bike make your own receipt then return it.
dirtymoney@reddit
Dumpster dive for thrown away receipts

You're welcome
sr2k00@reddit (OP)
Thanks friend
icarusm4n@reddit
I'm on break right now, but will fix the misspelling
SilverMcFly@reddit
Is it supposed to say "Said" on the first line under the word order?
icarusm4n@reddit
No. Was making this in a rush before having to head to work
SilverMcFly@reddit
I thought so. Just helping out, have a good day at work!
twilightmoons@reddit
Here I am riding a 20 year old mountain bike from REI I paid $279 for...
kinggianniferrari@reddit
Buy bike at Costco. Show bike receipt. Use it for a bit, and then return it
FAILNOUGHT@reddit
corrupt a bike shop owner, split the money with them
johnnbr@reddit
Dont, the owner will ask for more money to not tell the boss.
Attentive_Stoic@reddit
ULPT request: how can I steal OPs job to get a free $2000 bicycle credit every year? (/s but only if nobody has a solid plan)
acj21@reddit
Where do you live? I just bought a $1500 bike.
mysteriouscattravel@reddit
Go to a bike shop and ask someone else who is purchasing a bike for their receipt.
Limp_Bookkeeper_5992@reddit
Just buy the bike and then sell it. It’s not worth losing your job to fraud for $2000.
BaconSheikh@reddit
Defrauding corporations is always worth it, and very cool.
Limp_Bookkeeper_5992@reddit
Well assuming op does work for a big corporation they’re probably better off taking a salary from them year after year then losing that income over a $2000 scam.
sharkbait-oo-haha@reddit
https://youtube.com/shorts/SOAtDB0DHAA?si=dPpyFDHq05uuvDFo
BaconSheikh@reddit
¿Por qué no los dos?
Outrageous_Cloud5179@reddit
How is what he stated defrauding a corporation?
turtlturtl@reddit
Not to sound like an absolute bootlicker like the dude you’re responding to but he’s technically defrauding his employer
BaconSheikh@reddit
The only place I've been caught licking boot is Barefax, and I'm proud of that.
WhyWontThisWork@reddit
So bike is tax free while gym membership is taxed?
dougola@reddit
That's all great until they institute the company bike ride.
No_Educator_6376@reddit
Go to the bike shop and request a written estimate . Next get a rubber stamp that says Paid in Full . Stamp it and submit it. Collect the money
EkaL25@reddit
If I was working at a bike shop, I would gladly give someone a receipt of purchase for $50
Miserable_Smoke@reddit
Much better to do things with an automated faceless system, then have a loose end of a person. In the incredibly unlikely event that the employer follows up on it, a letter from a lawyer would probably open up the bike shop books quicker than, say amazon or Walmart.
Technoxgabber@reddit
They would be committing fraud.. its better for him to just make a fake one or buy and then return
chef-keef@reddit
Buy the bike online (REI would be good for this), take a screenshot of the receipt, call REI and cancel the order.
Redacted1983@reddit
Idiot
aliendude5300@reddit
Buy the bike and then sell it.
BapoleonNonapart@reddit
Where are you from ? I can provide you some
