One of the great all-time Dallas characters. May he rest in peace.

He would always tell me "ive heard better" when I played for him, he always requested "Do You Know What It Means" and we usually would play it for him. One time he shit on the floor at a bar I play at and he has a documentary called Whos Bob or something like that

Wow. No more Bob. He never seems super healthy I suppose, but damn. Still shocking.

Right? It's definitely surprising, but it's a weird type of surprising. Like, whoa, Bob died, that's a shame. But also, whoa, Bob was still alive? I first met Bob in 2009, right before they filmed his documentary, I was working night shift at the 24 Hour Club restaurant, the old building. I could write a book just about the shit I saw then, including meeting Bob. It is wild that a town as big as Dallas would have a local celebrity, that isn't famous because of social media, its because of their constant appearances in a particular scene. This scene being DE, Old East Dallas, and live music. Rest easy Bob, it was fun while it lasted.

Just watched the movie today.
Really a shame how they didn’t highlight how much he loved going to see bands in DE. It’s just all depressing stuff when we all knew him as a huge music fan who we’d see at all the shows. RIP Bob. I didn’t know him as a tragic figure, just a jovial yet troubled man who raged the live music scene… no matter what genre.

Dang, haven’t seen him in years since I don’t go out to deep ellum anymore but he was something else. RIP

I am so sorry to hear about Bob! He was an institution. He used to hang around Deep Ellum and me and my friends would give him a ride home sometimes. He always had a filthy joke to tell. The 2010 documentary about is called "His Name is Bob". I remember him telling me about it when it first came out.
