Envoy vs Breeze
Posted by No-Scientist-9055@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 94 comments
Hey all! I’ve got an interview with Envoy end of the month & I’m 80% through the interview process with Breeze.
Any insight or pros & cons for both is greatly appreciated!
Relocating is no issue, Florida is ideal. Knowing how the job market is, I lean towards whoever calls first. Aircraft doesn’t really matter, although the A220 would be sweet for a first jet.
TIA!

Wait to see if you even get a CJO
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Correct 😅 just trying to get ahead of the curve
Nevej@reddit
No need to downvote here. More information is always good to have.
Cdraw51@reddit
I understand why people sometimes warn others on here not to get ahead of themselves, but I agree with you in that I don't really think that applies here. I see that warning applying more to some guy who just hit his minimums and has applied to a few different airlines but hasn't heard anything back, yet they're deciding which airline to choose from when they don't even know if those airlines want them yet. Or someone who just got their private and is getting a little too starry eyed and not focusing on how to get to that place in life because they're daydreaming too much.
OP on the other hand has two interviews locked in at two airlines. That implies that those airlines potentially want him. It's very relevant and understandable for him to be asking questions about an airline he's interviewing at. Like, why does he have to wait until he gets an offer to find out more information? Why leave that kind of fact-finding to the last minute?

Thank you!!

My theory!
Chubbers44@reddit
Envoy out of Miami is not terrible. If that’s drivable do it. I would say whatever you can do to drive. I left envoy in January and my buddy is there out of Miami and doesn’t mind it.
What’s the end goal??
I’m at United and going to envoy helped with getting here at UAL. I felt the transition was not bad, envoys training is pretty good. I don’t know a lot about breeze but just talked to guys JS. They like it and enjoy the 220.
Culture at envoy isn’t that bad, the guys there are super nice and good pilots. I don’t think either is a bad choice, just whatever’s easiest to commute or drive too. Having the AA benefits at envoy was really nice.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the info! I’m in Virginia so neither is drivable, I’d have to move to base which is fine. Long haul United/Delta is the current end goal so I’m glad Envoy made the move to the majors easy. Thanks again!
Chubbers44@reddit
If you’re commuting I would do envoy. I wouldn’t want to commute to do day trips only.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
That’s what I’ve heard too. Moving to base for Breeze doesn’t seem terrible either but 🤷🏼♂️
crackuhsaurus@reddit
Too far from the Norfolk base?
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
It’d be doable but would be miserable doing it, close to a 3hr drive
crackuhsaurus@reddit
Yea kinda far unless you can stack your trips
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
And by the sounds, FOs are having a hard time flying a lot at the moment
clearingmyprop@reddit
Norfolk is a stagnant base ATM. Know a guy who bid for it every single month for two years. Upgraded and just gave up trying to get it for now lol
sammyd17@reddit
FWIW I had a CJO from bother breeze and ENY in March and finished IOE at ENY before breeze gave me a class date
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
That’s worth a lot, thank you! How long did it take ENY to get you a class date?
sammyd17@reddit
I interviewed March of this year and got my class date in May for June start. A buddy of mine interviewed in July and just got his September date
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Any suggestions/tips/etc for the interview?
sammyd17@reddit
Know your IFR regs/procedures, jeppesen, and basic HR questions. Interview feels quick, lasts about 20-30 mins, but slow it down. I physically grabbed the iPad the pilot was using to look around the chart/plate for what the answer was even if I knew it for certain
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thank ya much!
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
2-3 months isn’t terrible, about what I expected. Crazy it took breeze longer than that.. Thanks!
Shark-Force@reddit
Breeze is a real airline, envoy is a regional. Shouldn’t be a contest. Pros for envoy are faster seniority movement and possibly base locations. Cons are everything else.
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Exactly what they said a couple years ago for Spirit vs Envoy. Look what happened to the “real airline”
Shark-Force@reddit
Does Compass, Expressjet, or Trans States Airlines ring a bell? Because those are all regionals that have ceased to exist in the past 5 years. Not furloughed, ceased to exist. You can add Air Wisconsin to the list soon.
Do you know why people leave the regionals? It's often not because of pay, but because of stability. Regionals are comically unstable. Their entire business model is built on pitting them against each other to see who races to the bottom first. Envoy isn't safe because it's AA's baby. Neither is that temporary pay increase, because unlike other regionals the AA regionals have temporary pay bumps.
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Which one of those airlines that you mentioned were a WO for AA the biggest airline in the world? None. AA is doing great, envoy is AA’s baby and will be likely here longer than any US regional WO or not.
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
This guy knows what he’s talking about… hasn’t even completed training at PSA yet. 😂😂
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Since when are you required to finish training to have common sense of economics? Lmao
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
Is AA doing great? Is MQ really AA’s baby? Nothing you said has anything to do with economics. Do some research about the history of the regionals before you form an opinion. Or maybe study those flows and callouts instead of posting on Reddit buddy.
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Yes AA is doing great checkout last quarter earnings. Didn’t know having more hours in a jet made you smarter on economics.
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
Never said it does, but maybe you should learn about the industry before opening your mouth. 30 billion in debt doesn’t sound super great to me.
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Don’t be so salty that you couldn’t get into a WO and ended up in Breeze
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
I can’t breathe I’m laughing so hard, you think a WO job is better than Breeze. BTW where do you think I got the 170 type from, it wasn’t RPA, Mesa or SkyWest. 😂😂
OrderSuper2542@reddit
I don’t know man 6 days of actually flying a month doesn’t seem like good career progression
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
Oh man you’ll change your tune quick after doing 4 legs a day in a RJ. Plus I got 39 years left, I thought the goal was to work as little as possible. Enjoy PSA buddy glad you’re at a “mighty WO”. Gonna get even better when they snap back to the old rates!
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Sure buddy if you really think that come back here in 2026. Should have gone to a WO wouldn’t risk it going to a spirit 2.0
Eastern_Fix_2944@reddit
What happens in 2026? The WO rates snap back or something I’m confused?
Shark-Force@reddit
I'll defer to this comment. You're right though, being a wholly owned regional is quite the accomplishment.
Fancy_o_lucas@reddit
Saying people’s main reason for leaving regionals is job security is the funniest take I’ve read on here in a while. “Yeah, I’m gonna go be bottom seniority at a new carrier so I don’t get furloughed” that judgement is just flawless, people definitely don’t leave regionals for exponentially higher pay or QOL improvements, everyone I know loves going to exotic destinations like Lansing, MI.
But yeah, because of one WO bankruptcy that happened 23 years ago after a major recession, let’s fully trust that Breeze, an airline that’s existed for 4 years and is a quarter of the size of Envoy, is infinitely more stable because it operates airplanes with 137 seats instead of 76 seats.
kiwi_love777@reddit
Yes but you can flow to AA from Envoy. (In about 7 years)
Either way a job is a job and I’ve never heard negatives from either Breeze or Envoy. Good luck OP!
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thank you! 😁
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Different point of view, I appreciate that! Only fear w Breeze is they fold up during expansion, where Envoy is AAs child 🤷🏼♂️
Japanisch_Doitsu@reddit
I wouldn't worry about that unless Breeze starts furloughing.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Valid point, appreciate that!
Japanisch_Doitsu@reddit
Dont get me wrong, I think your concerns are valid. If it was any other new airline, I would be with you, but David Neeleman has a great track record with starting and running airlines.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Also very true. Figured it’d be tough comparing a regional to a new airline but wanted to see opinions anyway 😅
Japanisch_Doitsu@reddit
It normally is. But I think Breeze is the one exception.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thanks !
3Green1974@reddit
Comair was Delta’s “child” and look how that turned out.
TemporaryAmbassador1@reddit
Phrases overheard at the regional negotiations “we don’t wanna do anything to get comaired”
When you get smacked so hard you become a verb it’s an industry wide lesson
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Can’t argue with that either 🤣 appreciate it!
21MPH21@reddit
Lol
Right now Breeze has 26 planes in the air. Envoy has more than 3 times that amount in the air right now.
Breeze sells their own seats and sets a schedule but are they a real airline? They've only been around for 5 years and they have continuously lost money until 2025 Q1. I don't see Q2.
And they're operating as an ulcc which is an extremely tough market, especially with their poor on-time performance. Look at Spirit and Frontier's problems.
If I were starting off I would probably go breeze but just because of the 220 type rating. But, there's a chance they'll fold before you can get TPIC which will be the requirement to get to a real airline.
Shark-Force@reddit
Skywest has more planes than Alaska, Jetblue, Lufthansa, UPS, British Airways etc. I don't know what this is supposed to mean.
Breeze is a new, lean airline. They get a lot of benefits from that, just like JetBlue did 25 years ago. Will Breeze be here for the long term? I don't know, but it only needs to be here for a few more years for it to be a good choice over a regional.
21MPH21@reddit
That they're tiny, almost 4 times as small as a semi-big regional
So lean they were negative $30-$50 million a quarter for 5 years.
Just read that their pilots aren't flying so extremely long upgrade times so not a great choice if you're trying to get TPIC and a legacy
clearingmyprop@reddit
Breeze but I’m biased
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Lemme hear some reasons 😅
thetuxfollower@reddit
Are you me? Cause I’m in the exact same boat.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
What a lovely spot we found ourselves in 🤣
Ok_Anybody8281@reddit
What day do you interview at Envoy?
a_not_clever_name@reddit
What kinda hours do you have?
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Just over 1900TT, 1350 dual, 100 multi, 850 XC, 250-something IFR
Dependent-Place-4795@reddit
How. I have 10x your multi and turbine and never get an interview with envoy
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Beats tf outta me 🤣
SteamingSpoon1@reddit
Any turbine?
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Whopping 18.8
Theta-Wonder@reddit
Breeze is cool and new but I know a couple guys there that continuously have issues getting actual flying hours. Some are sub 60 hours a month and that's not conducive for moving elsewhere if you have your eyes on a mainline in a few years.
clearingmyprop@reddit
Depends on the base tbh. Some people don’t wanna move bases and then end up on reserve where they could’ve swapped and held a line
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Other issue is the market. If breeze offers & has a deadline on a yes/no prior to the envoy interview I feel like it’d be stupid to say no
Prof_Slappopotamus@reddit
Say yes, make sure indoc doesn't interfere with your interview. You can absolutely leave at any time with no ill will.
This is a bit of predicament. Breeze has the potential to be the next JetBlue where you get to be a super young captain with incredible QoL for your entire career (if you so choose)....or it could be a flash in the pan and you're stuck in reserve hell with no chance of escape. Envoy has the guaranteed flow, which is nice to have in your back pocket, but there are guys that had that in '99 and finally made it to the majors in '17. Sure, there's extenuating circumstances that no one saw coming, but that's the trick.
See what they say first, compare contracts and lifestyle as best you can, and make the decision that seems right for you, and let us know how it turned out in 40 years. You're also doing really well to get an interview at 1900tt, so you're doing something right. Envoy is going to look mighty tasty to UA/DL on the resume, not sure how Breeze stacks up in that math.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
That’s great info, thank you!
That’s the other part: they’re trying to grow but there’s a chance they spread themselves thin & fold 😅 take the A220 type & go to JBU in that case I guess.
I figured UA/DL would be happy to see Envoy on the resume as they’re competing w AA.
Thank you agai!
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
That’s what I’ve heard too, lotta time on reserve. Thanks for the insight!
Practical-Reveal-409@reddit
Go to envoy. Fast time building and upgrade.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
That’s the key 😅 but we’ll see what happens. Good chance neither extends a CJO so 🤷🏼♂️
Ok_Excitement725@reddit
Take whoever offers a job first as others said. This is the priority by a country mile.
If you get offers at both, take the one that means either a) no commute or b) shortest/easiest commute
And Breeze won’t be vanishing in the near term. Long term who knows but either is a safe bet…only issue with Breeze as someone pointed out, you will be a long long way off getting any PIC time there.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
And TPIC is what the next step wants so.. we’ll see what happens!
0621Hertz@reddit
Go Envoy if you want the left seat as soon as possible and build more TPIC hours.
Go Breeze if you want day trips and the cooler type rating.
It’s Gods guess what will get you to a Legacy sooner, but given that Envoy is American’s “flagship” regional, I think you’re in good hands going to either if you can afford the rent in Florida.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
I hate the cold so I’m willing to pay for the rent to be warm (I say now)
It’s anyone’s guess, you’re right. Consult the magic 8 ball they say 🤣
Thanks for the input!
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Lol I had a CJO woth breeze and I still didn't get the job. You're 80% of the way through the interview and you've already moved to your domicile.
grumpycfi@reddit
Curious what happened. You had a CJO and they yanked it?
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Correct. It was before the background check was initiated so it wasn't anything to do with that. I checked that day to see if they were still listing positions and it had switched to minimum 500hrs 121 time required. I like to think thats the only reason I got tossed. It wasn't a req when I applied or interviewed.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Nope, haven’t moved.
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Its a figure of speech. Like putting the horse in front of the cart.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Ah gotcha. You’re not wrong but I’m trying to stay ahead on planning if I can help it 😅
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Good luck. I hope you get all the CJOs.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
OrderSuper2542@reddit
I’d take a WO anytime. More job security unless you want to end up in Spirit 2.0
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Pardon the ignorance but what’s a WO 😅
OrderSuper2542@reddit
Wholly owned by their major carrier. Envoy,PSA and piedmont for AA
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
You’re putting wagon ahead of the horse.
No-Scientist-9055@reddit (OP)
Hoping the question answers itself but gotta be prepared at the same time 😅
