Insane baggage fees online

I'm looking to fly to Poland at the end of September and every website I find wants $2-400 to add a single checked bag. Does anyone know if I will just be able to check my bag when I get to the airport and would they honour their usual checked bag prices? Westjet for example, lists a $95 checked bag fee at the airport. I see a lot of people say to go through the airline directly but then the price of the ticket is 2-3x of the ones I can find though the 3rd party sites.

First, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an airline charge that much for a checked bag, especially not $400. Second, you’ll only get the $95 checked bag price if you book direct with the airline.
Booking third party, you’re risking the airport not honoring the $95 price and you have to go thru the third party for it

Kiwi wants $377CAD for a checked bag, almost the same price as the ticket.
I was afraid of that. It's still about 30% cheaper to book through a discount site and pay their outrageous bag fees than to book through the airline directly.
For example I was looking at flying from Abbotsford to Warsaw in the last week of September, lowest price I could find was like $385 on a westjet flight through kiwi or gotogate, cant remember exactly, searched up that exact flight on westjets website, almost $1200. I understand the discount comes from the lack of bags included, but is one checked bag and one carry-on really worth $800?

Kiwi is a nonsensical website. No airline charges those prices.

'' almost same price as the ticket "
Buy a seat for the bag 👍

Thats not how it works lol

Honestly at that price and especially in Poland it might be cheaper to buy everything there rather than bringing a suitcase

Go to google flights and put in your flight dates. Click the track Prices box and let the website find you a good flight. And you might score some baggage included.

Wow. I’ve never seen checked bag prices that high. I spent a month this spring on the other side of the planet and 1 checked bag was included in the ticket and an extra was like $55-$60. I flew American Airlines, Canadian Airlines and Qatar. I will say that Qatar was the most exceptional airline I have ever flown on.

I haven't flown internationally in several years now, but i travel in the US for work and I sometimes need certain gear. Rather than check it, I'll box it up, insure it and send it ahead of time. Not sure if that's an option for you or if it would even be cheaper, just throwing it out there.

Like the movie theater popcorn and soda, such high margin add-ons help the airlines to offset the money-losing economy seating specials.

Pack correctly and you won't need to check a bag

I take just a carry on. If I need something I buy it when I arrive.

Checking bag at airport is always way more expensive because you have no other options.

We are being screwed by airlines and that is just the beginning. Flew with British Airways last June and the asked $300 to reserve seats from Vancouver London return. No more BA for me and just screw them.
