Going from a 3060 ti to a 5070 ti

How big is this jump? Is it the multi generational jump people keep recommending to make rather than 1 gen apart.
CPOx@reddit
I went from a 3060 Ti to 5070 Ti running 1440p and I have zero regrets.
It's like I went from kinda stressing about settings and performance and optimization to just not having to worry any more and focus on the gaming. The 5070 Ti is about 2x the performance of the 3060 Ti.
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
That's reassuring, ive had enough asking myself "will my gpu run this game"
HiroyukiC1296@reddit
I think at a certain point it stops being about running games and extends to things that are beyond gaming.
Yelloow_eoJ@reddit
What does this mean?
GARGEAN@reddit
Only question you will have with 5070Ti is "will it run with full Path Tracing with DLSS Quality or I will need to go to Balanced". Which is a nice question to ask.
keblin86@reddit
\^\^ This!!
It's literally able to run everything amazingly that I have so far flung at it. Even Cyberpunk!
Zugas@reddit
It’s still a lot of money and my 3060 ti still works, I’m having a hard time justifying the upgrade when my current setup works albeit some bad fps drops do happen. It’s quite obvious the 3060 ti struggle with 1440p, but it still works.
Guess I’m quite cheap haha
Yelloow_eoJ@reddit
I'm in the same boat, I don't play the very latest game and I'm happy with medium settings on more demanding titles.
Zugas@reddit
I keep going back and forth tbh. One day I’m like why shouldn’t I? I can afford it so why not. And then I’m back to being cheap haha
There’s a great offer on the 5070 ti close to me, might just pick it up tomorrow, unless I changed my mind again…
Yelloow_eoJ@reddit
There's nothing wrong with getting the most time and value out of your current GPU. I also deny myself upgrades on phones, tablets, bikes, clothes etc. then I really appreciate the new stuff, when I'm eventually forced to upgrade, the benefits of being frugal!
timeaisis@reddit
The question I have is...do I have room to fit the damn thing inside my pc lol
Mr_B34n3R@reddit
I've never had a pc, just a laptop with gtx1660 ti. I recently did a build with a 5070ti. It really is amazing to just enjoy the game without worrying about what settings will best suit performance or quality.
Joanna39343@reddit
Contemplating the same thing, upgraded my CPU, RAM, PSU and motherboard about a year ago, but left the GPU upgrade at the time due to costs.
Since upgrading to a 4K qd-oled monitor, running it at 120hz, performance has been a tad more inconsistent in higher end games. Perfect on anything below, like, Cyberpunk sort of level, but yeah-
Potential-View3257@reddit
That’s a big jump. 5070ti is a great card. Probably the best price to performance for current gen NVIDIA.
You’ll see a big performance increase moving to that card.
Mr_B34n3R@reddit
The 5070 has better price to performance, but most people agree that the 5070ti is the better buy
why_is_this_username@reddit
The 5070 only has 12 gigs of vram. Idk why, kinda retarded especially when the 5060ti has 16
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
The ti is meant to be a better version, maybe thats why?
why_is_this_username@reddit
Except that the 5060ti has 16, does that mean it’s better?
Anywhere311@reddit
Well the 5060ti 16GB has more virtual memory and less raw performance than a 5070 12GB. So you kinda need to know what you’re aiming to do. Basically these two cards allow ppl to use their products without breaking the bank and can be easier put into pre builds because they either are a step down in performance or it has less vram making it a great choice for pre build companies that want to lower the look of the price and still offer an gaming pc. Personally I would choose the 5070ti 16GB and I have. But everyone of them has its use case. It’s really based off of what can u afford .
KillEvilThings@reddit
For FPS now. Not FPS later.
ajass@reddit
And the 5070 fe will fit in SFF cases.
vSh0t@reddit
Not so great with sandwich cases, I really wanted one but was concerned about dumping all that heat on my mobo and nvme. The msi shadow 2x is better for most I think.
Mr_B34n3R@reddit
It'll fit in more sff cases for sure, but as is the case (haha), compatibility will vary by case dimensions and other components potentially conflicting
vExport19@reddit
Doing a similar jump 3060 to 5070ti, was there much change to your power cables or pretty straightforward?
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
No i haven't had to change my power cable, however the psu needs to be minimum 850 wats 80+ gold so be careful about that part.
vExport19@reddit
Already sorted, built knowing my gpu was the only piece I would be changing for some time!
keblin86@reddit
I can't say for sure but I had a 3070 which is close and the jumps crazy. Everything just feels amazing and smooth and barely anything feels bad so far.
I no longer have access to that PC right now and in the process of rebuilding but the 2months I did experience it, oh man. Soooo worth it. Even when the GPU was way more than I wanted to pay.
Chipaton@reddit
Can I ask what resolution you play at? I'm on a 3070 8GB at 1440p ultrawide and try for 120hz. My 3070 is definitely hurting to keep up. I have to run most recent games on low settings and performance DLSS, which just isn't a great experience
keblin86@reddit
Same res! I play in 2k too.
If you are strapped for cash right now, u could try Lossless Scaling, it's actually really good! (for single player games). I wouldn't use it in competitive games but then if you struggle with frames there just player with some settings lowered as you're not really playing for visuals then!
Chipaton@reddit
Awesome, thanks for the response. I've heard about lossless scaling for the Steam Deck, didn't know it had uses elsewhere. I'll check it out.
keblin86@reddit
It can just help aging 30 series cards until Nvidia flip the switch and let us have frame gen lol which I doubt they will.
I went from running Enshrouded in 2k to been able to run it on higher settings in 4k thanks to lossless lol, I was blown away! It's not perfect by any means and game dependant too but most I tried benefited from it!
YoloSwagginns@reddit
For what it’s worth, I went 4090 -> 3060 ti -> 5070 ti.
Practically speaking, the 5070 ti is a lot closer to the 4090 than I was expecting (not benchmarks, but real experience in games), and it’s WORLDS ahead of the 3060 ti. I’m happy to answer any questions!
GGwynbleidd@reddit
What made you go from 4090 to a 3060ti?
YoloSwagginns@reddit
$2400 CAD, haha
XRustyPx@reddit
Just made the same upgrade from a 3070 and im blown away. Its feels like the performance is more than twice as good and i can finally play most games at highest settings with amazing fps.
Couldnt really play doom dark ages or the oblivion remaster before at a playable for me framerate
Biggeordiegeek@reddit
It’s going to be a pretty decent jump, the extra VRAM in particular is gonna be the biggest impact
itsyaboimakos@reddit
I went from a prebuilt 3070 like 4~5 years ago. To my own built 5070ti. And man. I'm absolutely glad.
Kettle_Whistle_@reddit
Though not an exact comparison, I went from a 2070 Super to the 5070 ti.
It's a different world! I went to an Ultrawide OLED because the 5070 ti handles ultrawide 3440x1440 without any issue. You can get 4k at max graphical settings quite often, if you like, but that's highly game-dependent, and more reliable with a 5080 or above (and the Nvidia 5000-series "Super" refresh is coming soon!).
And if you want to overclock the 5070 ti, it's got the headroom to do so.
LegendsofMace@reddit
I’m looking to pick one up myself coming from a 2070S. Will be looking at playing at 1440 or 1440 ultrawide!
Kettle_Whistle_@reddit
And, I promise you: it’s a paradigm shift! On OLED on ultra-wide, at 1440p, with every game’s top graphical options chosen…you will feel like “holy (bleep), the future is now!”
The experience is ethereal. Heck, my WIFE (non gamer) will walk behind me as I play ANYTHING…just to observe the spectacle. And she, in 30+ yrs together, never ONCE cared before these upgrades!
LegendsofMace@reddit
I have no doubt! That’s awesome. I actually tried a 49” 5120x1440 G9 monitor, and the immersion is unreal. I’m actually selling it here though very soon and moving to a 34” 3440x1440 with a better video card (5070ti). I think it will be nice stacking a 27” above that.
Kettle_Whistle_@reddit
Yeah, exactly!
My 3440x1440 OLED UW is my main & is a 34”, with an aggressive curve, and until I acclimated to it, I had some equilibrium issues & got motion sick! LOL
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
Yeah i have an oled 1440p monitor too, and unfortunately the 3060 ti's lack of vram is starting to creep in as we go into late 2020's... Im excited, its coming tomorrow and maybe I can finally play cyber punk completely maxed, 3060 ti couldn't handle any sort of ray tracing without dipping below 50fps
Kettle_Whistle_@reddit
I play Cyberpunk 2077 maxed.
The 2070 Super was always playable, but yhe 5070 ti is chef's kiss, especially on the OLED!
Bonobo77@reddit
I went from 3070 to 5070ti. Encoding a 1 hour video took over 2 hours. With the 5070ti, 60sec. Such an amazing upgrade.
Gaming wasn’t a huge difference to me. I was gaming AAA games @1440p and since I am never interested in chasing FPS, it fine. I will admit playing some games in ultra now is very very pretty. lol
Norumu@reddit
I went from a 3070 to a 5070 Ti, and it was 1000% worth it for my 1440p setup.
Average_Sized_Jim@reddit
For same generation reference, a 5070ti performs a bit faster than a 3090ti.
HyruleanKnight37@reddit
It is a huge jump, but I don't know about generational jump, you're basically paying 2x money for 2x performance. If money was no object then yeah sure, why not.
caesec@reddit
i made a decent smaller leap, 3060ti to 9070, and it was night and day.
trynagetlow@reddit
I went from a 1660ti to a 5070ti, and it’s amazing. I wasn’t able to play monster hunter wilds with my old gpu now, I can go highest setting on 2k with stable frames.
G0rdy92@reddit
Yeah generally that’s the soonest I think most should do it, a 2 gen jump, I keep mine for even longer though, just recently upgraded my 1070 to 5070ti for my 1440p OLED monitor the 5070ti is awesome. I think some people jump GPUs too much and are party of the ridiculous GPU market, but 2 gens like you are doing is solid, you got a good amount out of the 30 series before upgrading.
masoomdon@reddit
Going from a Xbox Series X to 5070Ti tomorrow - Mainly cause i missed pc gaming. Not sure how much of a jump it will be though.
FQECR@reddit
I recently went from a PS5/Series X to a 5070ti PC.. the performance gain was huge. Some games at max settings with ray tracing still stomps the console framerate at far higher res, youll love it.
Craig_manson135@reddit
Series X and ps5 performance is relative to a 3060ti. Except on pc you won’t be forced to use max graphics in every single game.
960be6dde311@reddit
That is a massive upgrade ... highly recommended.
Shibe-kun@reddit
It was a very big jump for me, I play 1440p ultra wide at 240hz and can now consistently hit that framerate in counter-strike 2 as well as maxing out most non-esports titles with no issue
jakobekenobi1@reddit
Hi - I just went from a 3060 to 5070ti this week and the jump was insane. I'm getting 2-3x the FPS on everything between high and very high settings. Paired with my 7800x3d, this build will handle anything.
Same as you, got worried about whether I can handle some games and slowly watched a the performance dropped the last few years on anything new coming out. Not even a thought anymore...
Treat yo'self!
mattman2301@reddit
Upgrading my i7-11700f to a Ryzen 7 9800x3d and really heavily considering upgrading my 3060 to a 5070ti as well.. how worth it is this upgrade 😅
jakobekenobi1@reddit
Well it completely unlocked my 7800x3d. Like I said it made a substantial difference where high - ultra settings and my pc is completely unbothered..
Tspoon8D@reddit
I just did this exact upgrade last week and the tested it at 1440p with Monster Hunter Wilds. Before my fps was in the 50s on dlss performance with med/low settings. Now I’m getting 110+ on high settings on dlss balance.
BCmutt@reddit
I went from a 3070 to a 5070ti, its a good jump for sure.
Starrynite120@reddit
I did that several months ago. It’s a big jump. Can even play in 4K sometimes. I thought it was worth it.
ShadowLitOwl@reddit
3060ti to 5070 here. You won’t need to worry for most games about tweaking settings. Can go high/max/extreme for most games.
glxy_kingk@reddit
Man I’ve been thinking of making the jump from a 2070 super to a 5070ti cuz it just won’t keep up with these newer games anymore, have so much frame drops and screen tearing
Roger_KK@reddit
I made the same jump as well as moving from 1080 to 1440. I can practically max out anything I want, it's been a dream.
finisimo13@reddit
It outperforms the 3090 by a bit so thats cool
I_Dont_Have_Corona@reddit
Your 3060 Ti is roughly between the RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 in terms of performance.
The 5070 Ti is definitely a decent jump in terms of performance and additional VRAM.
Depending on what pricing and deals are available to you, I’d strongly consider the AMD alternatives as well if you’re not needing NVIDIA exclusive features like CUDA.
mig_f1@reddit
Good read: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/amds-fsr-redstone-uses-machine-learning-to-achieve-parity-with-nvidia-dlss
SomethingXII@reddit
I did this exact upgrade and please MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE A CPU BOTTLENECK my cpu bottleneck totally ruined the upgrade
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
I have an idea 14900kf it should be good
FriendshipEarly9430@reddit (OP)
Intel, not idea typo
tubamann@reddit
Just went from 970 GTX to an RX 7900 XTX. Also i5 4590 to i7 13700. PUBG went from 30-70 fps at 1080p/low to 300 fps 1440p UW / ultra. Let me tell you, this is fun, the jump was quite substantial!
Itchy-Throat-4779@reddit
Man these 5070TI's really snagging a lot of newbie builders huh.
Aimhere2k@reddit
I had a 3060 Ti, and wanted a 5070 Ti in the worst way. But the sheer difficulty of finding any MSRP cards in stock anywhere, and the price premium of the higher end cards, led me to finally break down and get the base 5070 instead.
It was still a worthy upgrade, though, even if it "only" has 12 GB of VRAM instead of the Ti's 16. My frame rates are double or more in the games I play, and I don't have to settle for lowered settings anymore either.
I will say, I normally upgrade every other generation, and stick with the 60-level cards when I upgrade, but there wasn't as big a jump between the 3000 and 5000 series as there has been in the past. So, this time I went up a level (xx60 to xx70).
261846@reddit
You will see a massive increase for sure
newchallenger762@reddit
I went from a 3060ti to a 4080 super which is a comparable jump. It felt like quite a significant improvement and maxes out my monitor refresh rate (170hz) at 1440p ultrawide with headroom.
Metals21@reddit
I went from a 3070ti to 4070ti super and the jump was substantial
whatuseisausername@reddit
I went from a 3060ti to a 5070, and I don't regret it. I would run most games on mostly high settings using DLSS on quality with the 3060ti, and tended to get around 55-60fps (though it was getting closer to 40-50fps on some newer AA games). On the 5070 I get over 70fps using DLAA with most settings on high and ultra in most games (less intensive games get more than that easily). However, again it's closer to 60fps on more recent AAA games if I'm still using just DLAA. I think Hellblade 2 and Ark Survival Ascended are the main two I still have to use DLSS on quality to get over 60fps, and with Ark I'm also having to use frame generation (still looks way better than it did with the 3060ti).
I mainly mention all of that to say I'm getting that performance at 1440p with just a 5070, so I think a 5070ti will be an even more noticeable jump for you. If I had a higher budget I would've personally gotten a 5070ti as well.
Kyzerx102@reddit
I went from 3060 and ryzen 5600 to 5070ti and ryzen 7700x both on a 1440p monitor. The jump is insane. I dont even need dlss on some games now. I can play the bf6 beta at max settings without dlss avg 120 fps. 118 ive seen the lowest.
daverosof@reddit
I did this jump. Felt significant. Expensive jump, mind.
jacksonwasd@reddit
you will cry tears of happiness
