Has anyone here been through a flight school in South Africa? What was your experience? How much did it cost and would you recommend it to future pilots from Europe or America?

I did my PPL in EASA and a license validation in SA. The school I used in SA was top notch and training was the same high level I had in EU. Costs are about half of what I pay in SA compared to EU.

Where did you go to please? How much was it? Was it zero to atpl? I'm UK based and SA seems the easiest on the wallet... Like, by a mile!

I'm very interested in this idea, I was thinking of taking 3 months to live in SA next to the flight school and just raw dogging the entire thing in one go.
Did you get any recommendations for good flight schools or indications on pricing?

That's literally the same as what I was thinking. Going ham for a few months and getting a huge chunk squared away. UK is dog arse for flying conditions. Honestly, I resorted to chat gpt recommendations 😂 I got no where hahaha.

As someone who was considering the three and ultimately decided on the USA, I think it’s no doubt the best place to do flight training. The quality and sheer amount of airports available for public use is unmatched. In my 68 hours of PPL training I’ve been to more than 15 different airports. The infrastructure to support aviation in the states feels overwhelmingly sophisticated but logical.

My ideal would be the states. I love the states but of all the options it just seems the most unattainable financially. Even remortgaging.

It depends what your end goal is.

Big big picture goal is trans Atlantic. I live in the UK.
Slight-Check-6718@reddit
if you are American then there's no reason to fly anywhere else.

I'm British

Where are you from and why are you considering South Africa if the US and Europe are both options?
Remember, if you don't have authorization to work in those countries, they're all almost useless.

The goal is of course atpl. I'm UK based and I figured if I have to move away for training, I'd like to find something cost effective. SA seems significantly cheaper than the others. If I did my training here I could only fly UK flights unless I got EASA credentials anyway I think?
