What are stereotypes that people have based on the car they drive?

Like BMW drivers don't know how to use a turn signal.
Subaru: they're a lesbian or a cruncy granola mom
Lifted truck/pavement princess: compensating for something
What stereotypes do you have about cars and their drivers (positive or negative), and have they turned out to be accurate?

Guru_of_Spores_@reddit
Toyota is the Apple of the car world.
Reliable, boring, and overpriced.
No character.
Infamous_Tough_7320@reddit
Overpriced recently, but on the used market probably the best value on average.
Guru_of_Spores_@reddit
I disagree, the used market is where most of the issue exists. 20-30 year old Toyotas selling for 5k+ when comparable vehicles can be had for half as much.
The other "run of the mill brands" usually have a niche.
Nissan - Budget
VW - Performance Subaru - AWD Mazda - Design
Toyota's niche is reliability, but it's current vehicles are no more reliable than the other Japanese vehicles.
Drum_Eatenton@reddit
Mazda’s design is getting stale. They’ve been doing the same kodo shit for 11 years

I owned a Fiat when my first ex owned a Toyota. The Toyota lasted twice as long as the Fiat did.
Our next cars were a VW and then two more Toyotas. All of which turned out to be great choices.
The VW was a diesel that always got between 40 and 50 moles per gallon. We turned over 100,000 miles in that car, from brand new to when we traded it in on one b of those Toyotas.
Turned out great, since I did a tremendous amount of commuting during that time.
two_hearted_river@reddit
Woah! Your VW should win a Nobel Prize... gasoline is usually closer to 26 moles/gallon.
christine-bitg@reddit
VW Rabbit Diesels always got that fuel mileage.
I think the two door model was just slightly more fuel efficient than the four door model that I had.
It was great for hauling stuff also. Undo two clips and you could lift the rear seat right out. Which I did for a road trip, including taking naps in the back.

Somebody who lives near me has one and put one of those “I bought it before I knew Elon was weird” stickers on it.
It makes me so irrationally angry because: no, motherfucker, you didn’t. If you’re driving an 3, X, Æğ, or whatever the fuck other weird names he uses then I can cut them some slack. But the cYbErTrUcK? That was waaaay after the cutoff point where even the most oblivious normie who lives under a rock would know that he was way beyond “weird.”
teacherecon@reddit
My friend bought his Tesla recently because it has the best self driving mode and while he is cleared to drive, he has a history of seizures and wanted to be safe.
Fun-Spinach6910@reddit
You're not allowed to drive in some states if you have had a seizure. You have to be seizure free for a year. After a seizure you are most often are not fully in control of your senses. I don't see a self driving car as a benefit yet for someone prone to seizures.
teacherecon@reddit
He did all that. It may not be but it was a comfort in case the worst happens.
refusemouth@reddit
That's a very legitimate reason to own one. They should add a program in those cars to recognize the onset of a seizure (or heart attack, stroke, vertigo, etc) and safely pull off the highway. Adding a button that would activate a safety stop would probably be a good selling point since bad things can happen to anyone with very little warning.

I really would bet any amount that more left leaning people own a cyber truck than right leaning. I saw way more in CA this summer than I did in OK, NC, SC, TN, GA etc
Course I also think most people that own a Tesla do not care about the political BS and just bought it because they liked it.
When I'm buying a car I'm buying the car that fits my wants and needs. I couldn't care less about who the companies CEO is or his political alignment. I think most people probably feel the same way.

I used to drive an Audi TTS which gets exactly the same stick. That car made me so happy.
AlmostGotchaThere@reddit
Oh that's an awesome ride. IIRC it runs about 100 hp more than my Miata. I can only imagine what it's like to be the first person to pull away from a stoplight instead of the last after the Dodge Caravan that's missing on one cylinder.
seattleforge@reddit
HA HA! I like Miatas but I'm too heavy for those hammock seats.
AlmostGotchaThere@reddit
I have recaro seats. They are very...supportive. I kind of wear the car and have to keep my weight under 210 to continue to fit so it's like a mandatory weight loss program. On the plus side it's impossible to get tossed around during high speed maneuvers (25-40 mph lol) as I am wedged in there.
seattleforge@reddit
HA! I really miss having a coupe. I needed a rear seat and moved on to an Alfa Romeo Giulia. Even though it's a better drive than the TTS I don't love it as much.

Non-classic Alfa drivers are people who wanted an Italian car and didn’t care about much else. This only applies to the US.
Anyone who drives a brightly colored Kia Soul with more than two and a half bumper stickers probably has very strong feelings about anime and will insist that in order to have an opinion you need to watch Ninjin Ga Benpidesu, (Kaeru-San Tasukete!) in the original Japanese, using subtitles from some Finnish art collective.

Grandemestizo@reddit
For many people’s lifestyles it’s unlikely to become a problem. For others, it’s a problem.
s1a1om@reddit
Certainly true. I have relatives that live off dirt roads and in Mud Season AWD and higher ground clearances is very helpful. Regular towing is also another area where SUVs come out ahead.
Most people do those rather infrequently though. And renting a pickup can be better for the rare use. Just did that recently to get some sheets of plywood and it cost me less than $100.
That said, if I had a boat I’d certainly have a different vehicle.

Porsche drivers who have a fail-o-matic or flappy paddle trannys are just posers who are compensating for being terrible drivers.
They are the sad reality of most porche owners.
No manual transmission = loser.
Especially the PDK owners, they are literally the biggest losers of all. They will argue how its better but its just they are too stupid to learn a proper gearbox.
Clever_Commentary@reddit
LOL. This is a weird hill to be camping on. I've owned five Porsches with sticks and haven't touched a clutch pedal off the track in two decades.
I won't say that 90% of those fixated on (inefficient, higher maintenance) manuals are just desperately trying to pretend they have retained useful skills, but it's gotta be north of 80%. Porsche will keep putting them in cars at a premium because they have to keep the company afloat, but it's just to appease a certain sub segment of the olds.

Altima, especially with body damage: Drives 15 below the flow of traffic, then inexplicably floors it, cuts people off back and forth across three lanes just to get two cars ahead in the same lane and back to driving at stoner speed.
Big rig with body damage or from a Florida-based company with the name on the door done up in stickers from the hardware store: Stay to the opposite side of your lane, because he 100% is going to let his trailer drift across the line repeatedly, even if there’s no wind.
Honda Gold Wing: Rider outweighs the bike, rides from Dairy Queen to Dairy Queen, spends more time polishing chrome and pins on his vest than riding, outside edge of tires still have the little nubs and mold release compound on them after 15,000 miles. (I ride a Gold Wing. This is why I don’t ride with most other Gold Wingers.)
