That’s coooool 🐧🔥 Love when little details like that make a difference!
AccomplishedLocal219@reddit
only on desktop
Huge_Leader_6605@reddit
So that's what they mean when they say "year of Linux on desktop"?
Jemie_Bridges@reddit
Although ironically they boost Linux is seeing this year is mostly handhelds. And of course Server dominance. And internet of things. Pretty much anything BUT desktop.
RhubarbSimilar1683@reddit
hopefully, with the success of linux on gaming handhelds a linux gaming laptop will be released
MohSilas@reddit
There’s a desktop mode on every mobile browser + rotate your phone horizontally and refresh if it didn’t show up
AdRoz78@reddit
wonder what other secret phrases they have.
there's also pirate
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
Spoliers.
kiradotee@reddit
Lol why did they remove the link https://duckduckgo.com/dist/logos/dynamic/
Prize_Army_4888@reddit
Doesn't seem like that was ever a website
Wayback just shows a list of all images contained in that "folder"
They must be listed somewhere though as wayback would have needed to crawl them
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
No, it just snapshotted public-facing DDG pages that include image links to the individual files.
Prize_Army_4888@reddit
That sounds like they're listed somewhere to me :)
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
They're listed on archive.org, because archive.org creates lists of the files it indexes.
DDG doesn't display directory listings, and archive.org is just listing all of the files it individually scraped from one-off snapshots of search pages.
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
They didn't. There was never a publicly viewable directory listing there. The previous link is to the Wayback archive that lists all of the files that have been individually indexed under that path.
The_Adventurer_73@reddit
There's a Nyan Cat one I think Search Engines should've stopped developing at that point we were complete.

miversen33@reddit
Who would you choose?
A) Little green shit with a bulb growing on its back
B) Little blue turtle fuck
C) A fucking dragon that could fight Godzilla
kevidoplz@reddit
Why would they have Charizard instead of Charmander if they aren't going to do Venusaur or Blastoise
Manarcahm@reddit
charizard more recognisable than charmander, who the fuck starts with charmander?
Comfortable_Swim_380@reddit
I love that your mind went there. lol

ThrowAway233223@reddit
I'm surprised I forgot to check Harry Potter characters. Dobby works as well, btw.
Hewlet26@reddit
Oh my God. Thanks bruh. Btw check out that other guy who has the link to all of them.
ThrowAway233223@reddit
No problem and I saw. I actually edited my earlier comment to link to theirs.

A closer look using this listing shows that the Minecraft duck isn't just blocky; it's got the texturing, meaning that it looks like it was made from sand blocks. Cute.

Aslo work with "GNU", "FreeBSD" and "OpenBSD"
SEI_JAKU@reddit
Neat touch, especially since DDG is based on Bing. Once again, I'm thinking we're getting dangerously close to a certain timeline...
Jemie_Bridges@reddit
It does work on phones. Huh wonder if it works on tablets?
Agitated-Fisherman76@reddit
Verdade .
spatUNC@reddit
search "GNU"
Neon_44@reddit
Funny, "Link" works but "Zelda" doesn't.
Jean_Mak@reddit
Zelda works now ;)

Kryptonline@reddit
Hydra is fantastic
0tus@reddit
Just tried it. Love that one.
Otherwise_Rabbit3049@reddit
Since they are trying to find the things, I'm guessing there's no way to just open the DDG image directory somehow?
ILikeBumblebees@reddit
No, but if some archive happened to scrape DDG lots of times...
Tblue@reddit
Usually directory listings are disabled for security reasons (or the backend might not even support "easy" directory listings).
Hewlet26@reddit
OMG you are an absolute goat bro.
token_curmudgeon@reddit
Looks like a Google Chrome thing. Doesn't do that in Firefox.
_TomSeven@reddit
You need desktop view active
Otherwise_Rabbit3049@reddit
Works in my Firefox and Floorp.
magicalMusical@reddit
what, no?
knappastrelevant@reddit
No it doesn't.
Human-Equivalent-154@reddit
skill issue
knappastrelevant@reddit
Actually I had to enable JS from the DDG landing page, it wasn't enough to enable it after I had done a search.
wick3dr0se@reddit
You should already have JS enabled for DDG or you won't be able to see the Images tab among other things
knappastrelevant@reddit
One of the selling points of DDG is that it works without JS.
Irverter@reddit
It is? Never heard of that.
Human-Equivalent-154@reddit
Yeah they have an JS free version https://html.duckduckgo.com/html/
cferg296@reddit
You lied to me
h4crm@reddit
tuxtuxgo
Takemitchi-kun@reddit
Runs on Linux, FreeBSD and nginx. It has a devil mascot if you type FreeBSD :)
The_Adventurer_73@reddit
Yeah I was looking for where to download the Linux Kernel for funsies so I just looked up Linux, got the Uncanny Valley for a moment.
Dangerous-Badger5151@reddit
🤣🤣🤣
Bagoral@reddit
Cool feature, but still sad that's it's only by searching terms, & not the returns of their "doodles" w/ logo changes depending of the event, like they used to a decade ago. That's how I discovered Edgar Allan Poe.
DeadlyMohitos@reddit
r/lies
Waakaari@reddit
It works in desktop site
knappastrelevant@reddit
Not for me. Maybe it's geo-restricted.
magicalMusical@reddit
do you see it
heywoodidaho@reddit
I do indeed. Penguin penguin go?

Its not bluff
Technology_Labs@reddit
I see
ForThe90@reddit
Omg, I've tried so many from this comment section and they work. I neer knew and I've been using duckduckgo for years. I clearly search for the wrong stuff or don't pay enough attention 😂
Lawnmover_Man@reddit
That's so cool! I hope they don't sell my data, just as the boys over at "don't be evil"-company, with their awesome doodles!
Irverter@reddit
They stopped using it in 2015 and then removed it in 2018 for a reason.
Otherwise_Rabbit3049@reddit
Related, Youtube also advised against using one's real name at first for security reasons. Now they REALLY want to know who you are, doing a 180.
Irverter@reddit
Ahh, the times when the internet was anonymous and everyone was just a username...
geeshta@reddit
More like DuckDuckGOAT
otterpop21@reddit
Shhhhh
Minecodes@reddit
Sadly, it only works on the desktop... I tried it on mobile, and it displayed the normal DDG icon
Special_Resolve3670@reddit
I wish stuff like this worked on the mobile versions of the app

EmojieOnly@reddit
I thought they didn't track your searches?
SaltProfessor3582@reddit
You think showing your search results tracks you?
BurningEclypse@reddit
Who said anything about tracking? Just because they know what you search at that moment doesn’t mean they are logging and keeping track of what you do. They need to know what you searched at that moment so that they can give you the results
-light_yagami@reddit
i guess it’s just a simple “if query is x display x icon”
47-BOT@reddit
so cool , best search engine.
tremendoculaso@reddit
They are still censoring stuff, nice penguinwashing tho.
Darth_Caesium@reddit
What are they censoring? I'd like to know.
tremendoculaso@reddit
They banned "russian propaganda", but you can still search for US, North Korean, UK or Chinese propaganda.
I'm mature enough to see russian propaganda and i don't think DDG should act as my parents or something.
Kevinw778@reddit
DDG is God-awful.
People only use it because it's, "Not Google". I've never had decent search results with it. It got to the point where I was just using Google like 75% of the time instead, so just went fully back to Google.
Darth_Caesium@reddit
Ok that's a fair criticism
urmotherisgay2555@reddit
yeah weirdly enough the opencore website and the legacy patcher website don't show up at all for me on ddg
Irverter@reddit
Those show up when I search for them
LogoKidd@reddit
I LOVE INFORMATION
prueba_hola@reddit
Duckduckgo still doesn't support Linux for the web browser :(
AlguemDaRua@reddit
What? Use brave or something else and just change the search engine.
prueba_hola@reddit
I use Firefox and Gnome Web, my comment was more about that for some reason that I don't know, they don't support the most privacy oriented OS
magicalMusical@reddit
what do you mean, how is duckduckgo not working for you
Irverter@reddit
The duckduckgo web browser is not available for linux.
Otherwise_Rabbit3049@reddit
I had no idea such a thing exists.
magicalMusical@reddit
I forgot such a thing exists
prueba_hola@reddit
if you try to " Download the DuckDuckGo browser " it doesn't have client for Linux, just that is what i say
unknownmodo@reddit
What does their browser do that others don't?
kouosit@reddit
noice
Ornery-Addendum5031@reddit
Wow that’s so cute, reminds me of the time that DuckDuckGo lied about collecting and selling user data!!
Silentoplayz@reddit
Wizard is one too!
cyber-85381@reddit
TuxTuxGo
Maiksu619@reddit
That’s pretty cool, great find!
FremulonPandaFace@reddit
Linux was originally a penguin. So this just makes sense.
unknownmodo@reddit
Doesn't work unless you use the default theme
TheTrueOrangeGuy@reddit
That's nice.
Although if you search up "Tux" it will be the classic logo.
GreatRedditorThracc@reddit
r/foundthetrueorangeguy
wick3dr0se@reddit
Why is this a thing..?
Low_Newspaper9039@reddit
It's reddit, something is always a thing, like /r/BreadStapledToTrees
WSuperOS@reddit
Also freebsd and openbsd!
DaStone@reddit
4.5Kb normally, 60Kb for the linux icon. That image is strangly poorly optimized.
prueba_hola@reddit
so if the internet is slow amd limited where i am in this moment, could be better use DDG right?
DaStone@reddit
It's a bit more complex, edge computing, caching, etc. When I was on satillite internet, neither was an option. Just type in the URL you want to go to instead.
prueba_hola@reddit
yes absolutely, i write rhe URL too but sometimes i need search something
wick3dr0se@reddit
Use DDG lite/HTML
husky_whisperer@reddit
Not on mobile from Vivaldi :(
vickb701@reddit
Nice easteregg
venturajpo@reddit
Why is there a duck for when you search "google"?
VenetianSTR13@reddit
it's the standard logo of duckduckgo
JuL3sMicroP0P@reddit
E Donkey Kong?
throwback842@reddit
I’d rather they spent their energy working on a DDG Linux browser. Still fun though
Phrea@reddit
In Opera, at least a couple of decades ago, you could put /. in the address bar and you went to slashdot !
Secret_Account07@reddit
wtf? I never knew this!
niwanowani@reddit
Doesn't change into a gnu when you search for GNU though, rip.
computahwiz@reddit
do you need to be signed in? it won’t change for any of the keywords at all for me on firefox on windows
Draknio5@reddit
Not on mobile just checked
Ampurex@reddit
Its so cool!
TheFumingatzor@reddit
Are you...one of those folks that type google into duckduckgo to go to google...??
sdc0@reddit
Only works on the desktop page, not on mobile :(
Casidian@reddit
Now that is a fun feature

This. Thus means something.

if you search "link" it will be Link from the Legend of Zelda.
