It's really not "so badly," as in they got hit by ransomware like many organizations do, and the State of Minnesota has resource as a cyber response team in their National Guard which they deployed to assist.

Thanks for making that much more reasonable holy cow the sensationalism in media these days is insane
I worked for a newspaper in the mid 1980's in the layout/advertising department but obviously we interacted with the newsroom a great deal, and I can clearly remember how hard our editors worked at NOT sensationalizing news reports so as to not upset people accidentally, for no reason. Even when they were reporting on things that could be considered alarming they tried to keep the tone calm so folks wouldn't panic.
That was a million years ago.

They deployed the NG to assist because that's a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring a InfoSec firm to do the same thing.

I have nothing against St Paul. However, attacks like this show that there is more than one way to cripple an enemy.

I hope that if the National Guard has one 20 year old who gets this handled...they better promote them on the F@#$ing spot.

Not reliable source. Needs something more credible
Subarctic_Monkey@reddit
Ars Technica not reliable?
dnhs47@reddit
Ars is one of the very best, most accurate and technically precise sources on the internet.
Absolutely my go-to for any coverage of technical issues. If you want to know precisely how some technical event played out, Ars should be your first stop.

I could’ve worded it better: what I meant to say was “another “ reliable second source to confirm/deny the thing

That source definitely isn’t great, but it isn’t a misinfo hub either…. Right? I could be wrong just checking because I generally trust this source with the basic facts even if they’re going to editorialize.
