Taurus TX22 (sday) - Best .22LR pistol on the market by far.

You can be mad. You can be sad. You can throw your phone out the window. But you can’t beat the Taurus TX22 Competition model for Rimfire sporting. This thing eats the cheapest, dirtiest ammo… and likes it. I can stack 20 shots in the same hole at 15 yards with no fliers. I’ve shot entire bricks of the nastiest ammo you can buy where every 12th round feels like it might have been a squib and this thing just keeps trucking.
I’ve cleaned it twice. TWICE. in about 6,000 rounds. It didn’t even need it; I just looked in the chamber and said to myself, “Damn. That’s gross.”
My favorite part of shooting this thing at matches is the match directors and RSOs who shoot other matches like Shoot SIG, GSSF, etc. and who own Black Mambas whispering to me, “Those fuckin’ Tauruses are nice, aren’t they? I’m going to get one.”
This thing is a cheat code. My Rugers have been in the safe ever since I bought this.
Revolution37@reddit
I hate how good of a gun it is. I have a SiCo Sparrow on mine and it’s great.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
It only gets better the more the haters hate it.
Longjumping_Work_404@reddit
How’s the stock trigger? Im looking for something to run comps with. What all did u change? Tactically customizable seems like TX22 is the way to go tho. And now reading your post makes me more comfortable about getting a “Taurus”
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I ran the stock trigger for 3-4 seasons. I did replace it with a flat-faced trigger for this year, but I honestly don’t think it added a significant benefit.
You won’t regret your purchase. 👍🏼
Longjumping_Work_404@reddit
Thanks for the help. I haven’t been able to find any in stock just yet. Might have to broaden the search a bit. That’s another good sign tho ppl buying them up.

Its fantastic, although I'm curious if the new M&P 22X will measure up or even surpass it.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
That’s my thought, too. I really want to see other manufacturers step up there .22 game. Even though I love this one, if the S&W trumps it, I won’t be mad.
Want2fly77@reddit
Competition is a good thing.
porkmyass@reddit
I have a m&p 22 and put a trigger in it. And run a can on it. It has been a pretty decent gun so far.
East_East44@reddit
How did you get it grey?
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
It started out black but I’ve shot it so much it faded.
Just kidding. It came from the factory that way. I don’t think they make this color anymore.
East_East44@reddit
I have never seen any with a lower like that.
East_East44@reddit
Got it, thanks! I have a tx22 competition SCR from when they initially came out. Love the 2 tone
gbuskirk@reddit
My TX22 came with 5 magazines (two higher capacity, three lower). With all three of the smaller ones, I would get failures-to-feed (FTF) where the top round in the magazine was jamming into the front wall of the magazine. The round was not pushed up to where it would clear the wall and engage with the feed ramp. I cleaned up the magazines and oiled them lightly. Next range trip they performed much better. This experience was confirmed by a prominent Youtuber who plinks in the desert, who had the same FTFs. Moral of the story: Clean those magazines.
tacotongueboxer@reddit
Love it!
Got mine for a little over $300 a year ago, and Taurus just happened to be running a free 3-mag rebate at the time. Hell of a lot better than the SIG Mosquito I used to have.
Looks like you can pick them up now for around $200 -for the compact, can't be beat!
justfirfunsies@reddit
I got the gsg firefly and that thing suuuuuuucks!
Super hesitant on this tx22 but everyone seems to love it. So WTH, guess I’ll give it a go
redflounder38@reddit
Haters can hate. Everything you said is a fact. I especially love the ergonomics. Only issue is I can't find a holster that accommodates a light and optic, only either or.

Sincere question: is the TX22 better than a 22/45 or Mark IV? Buckmark? I’m in the market for a semi 22.
Personal_Fox3938@reddit
I think that may depend on your use case and goals with the weapon. I believe my TX22 Comp beats those pistols out of the box, but the Ruger definitely wins as a platform with all the aftermarket support and tuner options (like Volquartsen).
I got the TX22 because I like SCR and stuff that requires moving a lot while shooting. The ergonomics, capacity and optic mount helps a lot with that. It's also pretty much the perfect "trainer" pistol for modern polygats. I'm not a bullseye shooter, so I can't provide any comparisons for that purpose.
All three from your question are great, though, so you'll likely be happy with any of them. Good luck with your search, and happy hunting. :)
evilcrusher2@reddit
This makes me feel better about buying my used Volquartsen Scorpion 2 months ago. Cheap dot sight on it and it's a menace so far with everything other than stingers it can't cycle proper
Personal_Fox3938@reddit
You don't need a Taurus lover to feel better about having Robocop's 22. 🤣
matai1315@reddit
No, just holds more ammo
LegendActual@reddit
Having had the Ruger and the Taurus the Ruger worked better. Taurus still had reliability issues.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I like it better than the Buckmark, but I would say it’s a tie on the Rugers. Where the TX22 wins is capacity. I have a 30-year-old 22/45 with tens of thousands of rounds through it and a Mark IV tactical that’s about 6 years old now.
They are both incredibly reliable and accurate, but the 10 round magazines means the TX22 has become my go-to for almost everything.
Money-Ad-4954@reddit
I don’t know if I would say that is is better, just depends what it is you’d use it for. I still shoot my MK IV in competitions, but the taurus is an awesome plinker.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I agree with this.
DoPewPew@reddit
I have a mk3 all done up with volquartsen goodies. Gun is a tack driver. Unfortunately mine isn’t threaded and the 10 round capacity gets annoying. The newer Toro has a bull barrel and I’m sure that aids in accuracy just never shot both back to back on paper to see what groups tighter.
elcheecho@reddit
Would the bull barrel help in accuracy within in a noticeable way? I feel like under 25 factors other than mechanical will affect accuracy more and over that, you’d have to shoot indoors to notice.
Aequitasmurphy@reddit
Especially now that they've dropped an FRT for this pistol, thing is amazing!

Solid_Zanzibar@reddit
I have new a TX22 compact. Thumb safety is locked and can't be engaged when slide is not racked or striker not cocked. Is that a normal feature of TX22?
Or thumb safety should still be able to be manipulated like M&Ps, Sig P320s, etc. regardless?
heroinebob90@reddit
I find that hard to believe
Ill_Piano467@reddit
I believe you, mine definitely doesn't like golden bullets
glock1927@reddit
I pulled some 25 year old 22 ammo out just to test my TORO model last week. Ammo was corroded as all get out. I had one malfunction and I believed it was just an underpowered round. It just didn’t cycle the slide far enough to pick up the next round. Other than that I’ve put at least 1500 rounds through it since I picked it up last month. I haven’t cleaned or even oiled it yet.
I’m glad Taurus is finally putting a decent product with these. It’s crazy that manufacturers have waited so long to build 22 pistols that have more than 10rd capacity and can take a red dot with adding a massive rail on top.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
100% people don’t believe until they run mine. It’s a fantastic .22 pistol.
Palehorse67@reddit
I commented in here the other day about the TX22 line being the only good guns Taurus makes and got down voted and called a Taurus bot. Lol
rneck7@reddit
Hey their PT1911 is actually great! Once you convert it to a series 70 which probably dropped 50lbs off the trigger and put almost all Wilson Combat bulletproof parts in it its like a brand new gun🤣 I can say that I never had problems with FTF or FTEs no matter what I ran through it. That was one of my first handguns an I learned a lot from it. I learned I'll never own a series 80 1911 after the idiotic design made the plunger spring, plunger and firing pin jammed up and turned it into a brick at the range one day. I also learned that the grips are not the same as almost all other 1911s and neither are the sights when you go to upgrade them.
JaysonP82@reddit
Looking to get one to teach the kids. How's the grip size compared to say a 365?
Colonel_Krink@reddit
My son is 13 with small hands. It’s his favorite to shoot…well maybe 2nd favorite behind my MP5
JaysonP82@reddit
Thank you for the info!
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
Someone else will have to answer. I don’t own a P365.
AmCiv1234@reddit
I'm seriously considering one for Steel Challenge - anyone tried both? I spent a lot on a Mark 22/45 Lite (close to $560 after taxes) - and then had to upgrade the trigger for $200 more, and am still battling some reliability issues with CCI SV (definitely not budget ammo), even after having spent a considerable amount of time tuning magazines, and polishing the bolt and inside of the receiver. This is not my first (or second) rodeo and I have a Clark built Mark two and stainless that is 100% flawless, but was looking for something lighter to speed up my transitions.
Colonel_Krink@reddit
I swore never in my life would I buy a Taurus. Walther guys here on Reddit convinced me to try the TX22 Gen 2 TORO. I like it so much I bought a 2nd. It’s THAT good!
There’s a combo deal with the gun and 5 mags:

PnutButtr-n-Jelly67@reddit
I’ve heard good things. Not shot one yet. I have a keltec p17 that is absolutely amazing.
TL89II@reddit
Welp. Ive been looking for a .22 pistol. Looks like you just showed me the way. Thanks
No_Composer_9594@reddit
Same Here also was looking at a Glock 44
TL89II@reddit
I was too, but my local store has the Taurus for $269.99 with 3 16-round mags and 2 22-round mags. Can't beat that. The only other Taurus I've ever owned was a 1911, besides a bad mag, I never had issues with it.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
That’s a helluva deal. Dude.
TL89II@reddit
It's a great deal, way too good to pass on. Gonna buy one Friday when I go pick up my RXM.
21Horchatamikey21@reddit
Check out Dahlonegaarmory.com I just bought my tx22 toro for $195 plus $19 shipping.
Liberty-Justice-4all@reddit
And those 16s I believe can be upgraded easily also.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
Atta boy! Let us know how you like it!!
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I have a Glock 44 as well. Mine was a jam-o-matic the first 500 rounds and then became reliable. Unfortunately it’s not all that accurate.
It’s good for plinking and as a trainer companion to a Glock 19, but if you want to shoot Rimfire Challenge and stuff like that, the TX22 Competition or the Ruger 22/45 or Mark IV would be my recommendations by far.
I’ve heard good things about the FN502, but do not own one… So I can’t vouch.
West-Food-7561@reddit
I've been saying this for years. My TX22 is top notch and cannot be replaced.
Thehaginghag77@reddit
I got a tx22 with 5K through it never cleaned on purpose and 4 ftf only, love it, Taurus got it right
Thehaginghag77@reddit
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
JoeHardway@reddit
I got'a Buckmark Practical, n have no complaints, but I'm below 1k rounds, n haven't disassembledit, which seems 2b wherit loses big, to tha MKIV. (W/O consideration of aftermarket support...)
But! This thread's a refreshingly solid CONSENSUS, which seems 2b pretty rare, for almost any gun, and certainly "budget" guns.
IFit ever ends-up ontha CA Handgun roster (Or, if this blatant INFRINGEMENT of our 2A "rights", is ever struck-down...), I'll pick 1 up...
Medical_List_3476@reddit
I wish I could agree with you. My TX22 TORO has been a total disappointment. On the plus side I do like the overall feel of gun and the trigger is excellent. All of that does not matter when you have FTF and FTE on every magazine. While twice the price my Mark 4 is a pleasure to shoot and I don’t worry when the next failure will happen. P. S. I don’t use bulk ammo only CCI Mini Mags.
JoeHardway@reddit
Any attempt to address this w/Taurus CS? Seems like their CS ain't well-regarded, but, perhaps they've upped their game...
cj_entner@reddit
Oddly enough, CCI SV is the only ammo I've had any issues with FTF and FTE from my TX22 toro. Guy next to me at the range had the base model TX22 and his also wouldn't run the CCI SV. I've put hundreds of rounds worth of M-22, Automatch, Blazer, and Ranch Hand through it. I can honestly say I haven't had one gun-related failure with any of that ammo, only a handful of the proverbial duds.
Medical_List_3476@reddit
I’ll try different ammo and see what happens. Thanks for your input.
jeffh40@reddit
TIL that I was this many years old before I heard that a Taurus was the best in any category.
WanderingWino@reddit
For what it’s worth, I haven’t shot a new Taurus I don’t love. My GX4 TORO is incredible.
Personal_Fox3938@reddit
Lol to be fair, the TX22 has pretty much been the best in its category from the drop. Ergonomics, capacity, capability- it kills in every way and that's BEFORE considering the price. It's a legit anomaly. 🤣
FuddSmack@reddit
I still want a MKIV but man I’ve just heard nothing but phenomenal things about the TX22. Might have to pick one up one day
Palehorse67@reddit
I own a TX22 compact and a Mark IV. The Mark IV was vastly more expensive, but I really do love my little TX22 compact. Especially with a silencer on it. It a helluva gun for the price.
gecon@reddit
I own both. IMO they fill two different roles. The Mark IV is more accurate and weighs significantly more than the TX22, making it a better target/bullseye gun. The TX22 has more conventional ergos and a higher mag capacity, which makes it a better plinker.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I own both. The Rugers stay in the safe now.
PM_ME_QUOTES_@reddit
Better than volquartsen?
Exact-Event-5772@reddit
I like my MK IV
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
So do I. But I like the TX22 better. 👍🏼
MapleSyrupAlliance@reddit
I've been so torn between this and a mini Mamba. My plan is to run it 100% suppressed. But it's hard to justify the price for a mini Mamba.
DogsAreMyFavPeople@reddit
The volquartsen pistols are so good. I’ve shot the Taurus and I like it better than most of the .22s on the market but man the mamba is worth the money.
wdraino1-1@reddit
Ruger MK4 had entered the chat
DezmoDog@reddit
I wish my experience with min was as trouble free... I've had a Compact for a while and it broke in to where it runs abtou everything, but the Competition is being a problem child. It will run Aguile Interceptors all day long, but other ammo it chokes on. I got the misfeeds worked out, but it's latest thing is soft strikes.
I still like it, I just wish I could get it to run as well as my Compact. It'll happen, I'm just not there yet.
RabicanShiver@reddit
I have the regular model of that pistol, can confirm it'll eat anything.
stuartv666@reddit
What makes it better than a Mamba X?
Just that it's cheaper? Cheaper is not better. Cheaper is cheaper.
What makes it better, or even "as good"?
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
The capacity, the size, weight, and balance.
I have fired other peoples’ Mambas and love them, but I can’t justify owning one when I have this thing.
Personal_Fox3938@reddit
Out of my whole collection, this thing is the most fun at every range trip. A mate of mine had a S&W that was pretty solid as well, but he sold it after shooting my Taurus a few times. 🤣
gokartninja@reddit
I have heard that. Normally Glock and Walther would be the go-to options for reliability, but I've heard way too many horror stories about both of their .22lr offerings
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
The old Walthers were solid. My Glock 44 was a train wreck the first 500 rounds. I finally got it running well but it’s not all that accurate and it sends fliers from time to time.
gokartninja@reddit
They may have fixed it since, but I remember when they first came out and I was seeing tons of pictures of the extractors busting out of the slides
DoPewPew@reddit
I love mine. I have the newer version. The only issue I’ve had is magazine related from rounds not properly nosing up. Easy fix and back to having fun.
dapper_DonDraper@reddit
What was your fix. Sometimes rounds in my extended mag do this.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
I just tap the mags when I’ve loaded them (as I do with any magazine), and they self-align.
Next_Quiet2421@reddit
I have one of these and whenever someone is looking for a semi-auto 22lr handgun without breaking the bank, I point them at one, I was concerned given the brand but gave it a chance and was pleasantly surprised to say the least
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
Yes. Exactly. People can’t believe that Taurus makes a gun that is really exceptional. This is it.
Jigssaw66@reddit
Here come the taurus bots
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
Are they for or against? 😂
Jigssaw66@reddit
They try to convince themselves and others that taurus guns are just as good as the real thing.
SlateBlueSporting@reddit (OP)
Oh this is the only Taurus I own, but it is absolutely the best .22LR pistol I own. My old man bought a PT45 20+ years ago and it is one of the worst pistols I’ve ever experienced.
This post is specific to the TX22, which is awesome.
thenichm@reddit
I'm glad ya said this. For all the hate Taurus gets, any brand is hard pressed to make everything suck.
Slothful-Sprint0903@reddit
The only part of this picture that doesn’t bother me is the trigger guard lol
Lostinspaceballz@reddit
I prefer the toro one I have over that barrel config but yeah it’s a great gun. Although I do love my ruger 22/45 with comp triggers
BlueOrb07@reddit
I like the TX22 Toro model, but yes. They’re great pistols, pretty reliable even with crappy cheap ammo that’d malfunction most guns. Yes, a target pistol will be more accurate, but this one isn’t bad. Great for training without spending 9mm prices.
