Are ATX 3.0 PSU’s compatible with older motherboards?

I want to upgrade my PC and I was planning on getting the ASUS TUF B560 Gaming Plus WiFi and maybe the NZXT C1200 or another atx 3.0 PSU. Are atx 3.0 PSU’s still compatible with older motherboards? I was thinking maybe the atx 3.0 PSU has some fancy connectors that can’t go into an older motherboard. I don’t have a RTX 4000 series graphics card but I would like a future-proof PSU so I don’t have to swap it anytime soon.

I bought a FSP Hydro Ti Pro 1000W Atx3.1 Pcie 5.1 and i can't barely boot to windows idk why... The specs of older motherboard are a bit different espacially in 5v rails and 3.3v. I was with Rampage II Extreme X58 and Core i7 990x. i switched psu to a older Corsair TX750 and no issues so far.. but i'm a bit dissapointed

Not all ATX3.0 and 3.1 standard PSUs are backwards compatible. And it isn't only the issue with connectors. You have to check if the psu you want to buy has -12V rail as that rail is no longer required by the standard.

Very relevant, as I've just bought the RM850x and it does not work together with my Asrock B450 Pro. Although I have no evidence to support this, I'm suspecting the lack of -12V rail might be the culprit.

Yeah,, the difference with ATX 3.0 is mainly the 12+4 connector for the GPU. The other connectors are the same.

Stop spreading missinformation. The connector isn't the only difference.

Will the ATX 3.0 work with older GPUs? I kinda have to upgrade my psu at the moment and I don't want to upgrade my gpu

Yeah im having the same doubt and in a similar situation.. does newew ATX 3.0 PSU support old hardware?
im thinking of getting the MSI A850GL
Dependent_Base471@reddit
Yes it will. Just make it has the PCIe connectors.

Actually MSI and Corsair ATX 3.1 and ATX 3.0 PSUs are not fully backwards compatible. The standard no longer requires -12V rail to be present, and MSI and Corsair do not have that rail. It's not only an issue of connectors, but also of power rails. ASrock, Gigabyte, Cougar (for example GEX X2) have the -12V rail.
