Good cargo bike for city riding with kids, groceries, city provides $1000

My nephew lives in a city that will provide $1000 towards purchase of an eBike. He is considering a cargo bike. He has 3 year old, and another on the way. Very bike friendly city, mostly flat. His want to keep the total cast to or under $3000 (would mean $2000 out of his pocket). I have a Specialized Tero, and have ridden Trek, Specialized and Orbea eBikes. I am familiar with class 1 and class 3 road and dirt eBike. I prefer mid drive. But not sure if that is important on a cargo bikes. For those in the know, what are some models to look for, or features to seek or avoid?

Buy a regular e-bike and a child trailer. You'd be surprised what you can put in a child trailer. I have a double for 2 kids.

lectric cargo bike. so i've heard. it's like $1600 for dual batteries, $200 for panniers, 70$ fo running boards. not sure how much the cage is. so like $2k all in. minus $1k. so gtg.

The Trek Fetch +2 is on a very good sale right now (6k reduced to 3.5k). It is a premium cargo bike with a Bosch mid-drive motor.

You’re probably going to want to look at eBike options on marketplace and trailer options vs a $3000+ new eBike, which is what a good cargo bike that will meet those needs will cost.

I have a tern gsd and it’s been an incredible bike. I have a 5 and 7 year old and we go all over the city with it.
