Aberdeen might not be the windiest but it somehow has the most unpleasant wind. Like it comes directly from the Arctic, over the North Sea and then down your collar.

Unrelated but my dad worked for Shell before I was born, and he once fell overboard into the South China Sea. When he told me, I was ready for a tale of thunder and waves, maybe a typhoon and all that movie stuff. He went for a stroll on the deck one night and then found himself in the water. Was he pushed over the rails? No, he was just zoned out and didn’t notice he was no longer on the ship until he was falling. I cannot make sense of it. Good thing there were others around otherwise neither of us would be here.

Rogue wave through the bridge window, knocked out the ...well everything. The engine was still running but everything that controlled it from the bridge was fucked, along with all the radio gear, steering sticks, pitch control, everything electronic was blank or lying broken, including the crewman on watch, both rader receivers were lying on the aft deck with the rest of the mast, one of the lifeboats deployed itself...it wasn't the best situation. How did you fall overboard twice ? You fell in, thought mustn't do that again.....aaaand?

That sounds like quite the pickle. I had opened a gate in the railing ready to jump ashore and tie up, when someone pushed past me (not realising in*wasn't* leaning on the railing, but standing in front of an open space) and pushed me overboard. I managed to hang on and kind of swing back up, only for *the exact same thing to happen again*. On the plus side, I was the first ashore. Not easy to pull yourself up onto a pontoon when soaking wet though.

Nothing more likely to cause an accident than inattentive other crew members . Well atleast you were pulling yourself up without a sadistic instructor hitting you in the face with a firehouse, yaaay sea survival where not drowning is a passing mark .

I found [this article](https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/ampp3d/uks-windiest-city-4966116) which gives a list. St David's on the west coast of Wales comes top, closely followed by Liverpool and Portsmouth.

The Needles on the Isle of Wight is one of the windiest places in the UK and regularly tops records. If you ever go on a normal day, even then it is insanely windy. Portsmouth is windy but wouldn’t say Southampton is so windy.

Yeah I was just about to put this. It was caused by the Bridgewater Place skyscraper once built that sort of shifted and redirected the wind causing it to be dangerous in windy conditions. People walking past were blown in front of vehicles and seriously injured. They’ve since built some wind sails over the road next to it to divert the wind, and there was, not sure if there still is, some glass screens on the pavement next to the road to protect pedestrians
