Gaming/Office Chair for a Big Guy (6'8", 150kg)
Posted by Stunning-Kitchen1570@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 70 comments
Looking to buy a new office/gaming chair. I'm a big guy. Main issues with chairs are: weight limits, armrests not high enough, seat not deep enough, lumbar support in wrong position, etc.
I like the look of racing seat/gaming chairs, but most aren't wide enough for my shoulders and force me to hunch over.
I tried the AndaSeat Kaiser 3 gaming chair and it felt pretty good. Any recommendations? What chairs are you all using?
Welcome any suggestions
Altruistic-Froyo-252@reddit
You can try this brand Sihoo Australia specifically Sihoo Doro S300 it’s heavy duty as well. My friend of mine recommend this to me.
Meta_Professor@reddit
Don't ever buy a "gaming" chair, they are just flashy junk. But as nice an office chair as you can. Google the good brands, and you can sometimes find them used.
VictoryRemarkable429@reddit
i agree with you. gaming are just commercial
Staffchief@reddit
This. I made the mistake once of buying a “premium gaming chair”. Big mistake. I ended up selling it at a loss.
Instead, look for big and tall executive office chairs. Don’t cheap out.
A few years ago when I bought my current house and had a home office/man cave built from scratch I decided not to skimp and spent about $800 on a chair. It’s five years old now, still in great shape, and very comfortable.
Remember, you get what you pay for.
Prestigious_Panic578@reddit
Man, feel the same, you get what you pay for. Most racing chairs look cool but feel like wearing a tight hoodie for your back
I haven’t tried the Kaiser 3 myself, but if you’re open to something more ergonomic than “gamer,” I’d check out the Autonomosu Ergochair Pro. I’m not your height, but I’ve got a wide frame and it’s one of the few chairs that doesn’t feel like it’s squeezing me in. Super adjustable too armrests go pretty high, and the lumbar support actually hits the right spot for once. Worth looking into if you’re gaming or working long hours.
Symphonic7@reddit
The thing is some of the premium gaming chairs aren't even cheap either, and are in the price range of quality office chairs. But in terms of comfort and quality, you're definitely spending your money better by not paying for L33T Gamer cred.
IWillAssFuckYou@reddit
Yeah my first chair I didn't do any research and got some cheap Staples BS for $130. Some of the cushioning went flat like fast, but I did keep it for a good 5-6 years. When I finally did my research I got an office chair that I liked for $300 and it still feels comfortable to me three years later and is holding up better. Mine I would not recommend to big guys as my 5"9 father himself finds it too small (I'm 5"4 and it's perfect for me).
TheUnAssumingDonut@reddit
I would take this guys advice seriously. User name could be a big threat
Fisher9001@reddit
Ah yes, "I'm looking for a good quality office chair" - "M recommendation is to to buy a good quality office chair".
Thanks for your input.
Stunning-Kitchen1570@reddit (OP)
Still hoping for some actual model suggestions. I'm looking for something solid that works well for tall and heavy folks.
Fisher9001@reddit
I must admit I'm myself going back here as well, as a fellow taller and heavier guy with 10 years old, well worn chair. So disappointing to not see any specific recommendations.
nikomo@reddit
Read the title, 150kg cuts out the vast majority of office chairs. I looked into it years ago when I was chair shopping, a ton of them stop at 120kg.
Secretlab's XL models go to 180kg, officially listed. After that, the only options I know of cost 4 digits.
Lirael_Gold@reddit
Bizzarely, Secretlabs XL models are apparently quite good, compared to their Omega line, which is hot garbage (from personal experience)
Turns out they CAN actually make a good chair but only when it's mechanically complicated and they can't skimp on the materials.
vMambaaa@reddit
I had a secret lab for many years that I really liked. I eventually upgraded to a Haworth Fern, but I never regretted my purchase.
itsabearcannon@reddit
I love my Titan Evo tbh. It's the only chair I've ever used where the butt padding hasn't gone squished and soft after like two years. Only ~100kg though, so can't attest to how well it holds up closer to 140, 150kg.
AussieJeffProbst@reddit
Yes drive to the nearest major city and find an office supply liquidation store. You can get top of the line barely used chairs for like 1/4 the cost
SympathyHead2369@reddit
I bought the E-win Flash XL about three years ago. the bottom seat plate broke (obviously not a wear issue, but a defect issue). They wanted $250 to send me a part that might fix the chair. For the price these things are not durable (cost me over $500.00). I weigh 185 lbs, the chair is rated for 550 lbs. Seriously shop someplace else. These things look nice but E-win quality inside the chair is not there.
PervertedPineapple@reddit
For Herman Miller, get the type C.
I had a B and was blursed with thick thighs so the hard outer rim of the seat would cut into me on extended uses. At the time I was 327lbs. When I dropped under 290, the type B was slightly better but still recommend the C.
Costco and Sam's has a couple of options but are online only. Capping out at 350 and 400lbs. Best part is you can return whenever.
Also check your local markets (offer up, marketplace, craigslist) for used chairs.
I can't recommend others because the biggest issue I've seen is where lumbar support sits on them. We all don't have the same spine
CaledonianErrant@reddit
I've had my Secret Lab for 6 years and I'm very happy with it, only thing that has shown signs of wear and tear is the armrests and they're replaceable. Otherwise the rest of the chair is still pristine, no loss of firmness or support and I use it daily. So yeah, I'll join the chorus and suggest a secret lab xl -assuming they haven't changed their build quality since I got mine.-
Alternatively, I've heard good things and read good reviews for Corsair's tc500 but I have no personal experience with it.
Hobbytime168@reddit
Look at secret labs chairs they have an XL version that holds 500lbs and is wider. It’s worked pretty well for me I’m not quite as tall as you but maybe something to consider.
WeiliiEyedWizard@reddit
secrect labs is trash. the build quality is ass. I had one fail on me in 2 weeks when the hinge broke in half and the replacement they sent barely lasted two years. The tolerances and alignement on everything was terrible, neither of the backs of either of the chairs they sent me were straight and the arm rests were not evenly attached.
IF ANYONE IS READING THIS AVOID SECRET LAB LIKE THE PLAGUE!
EirHc@reddit
Have had my secret labs chair for 5 years now and have had zero issues. And it still feels as sturdy as ever. Maybe you didn't build it properly? How much do you weigh? I'm a 220lb guy... which is the max recommended weight for a regular chair. I still swim in that chair, I'm a lot more muscle than fat... but if you're way outside spec, then of course they aren't going to be able to guarantee that things like hinges aren't gonna break over time.
IWillHurtYouSoBad@reddit
Bought mine in 2018 and it's still going strong! No signs of needing replaced anytime soon either.
lpmiller@reddit
well, there is always one guy. No chair is for everyone. Mine has been so good these past 5 years, I want a second one.
Hobbytime168@reddit
Hey fair enough, everyone has their own experiences with things.
I’ve had mine for four years now without any major issues. I’m 6’1” 250lbs, I broke a few respawn and other gamer chairs usually within a year. So when I found something claiming to be more sturdy and a 5 year warranty I was like let’s do it. Still haven’t had anything replaced with daily use, sorry you got a bad batch or maybe they cut corners in the last couple years.
JunkKnight@reddit
Going to second this, as a 6'5" 130kg guy, I have an EVO XL and it is by far the best option I've tried among chairs, even including more premium brands like Steelcase.
joeygreco1985@reddit
I have the Titan Evo XL as well and I'm a big fan. Not sure what happened to the other guy but mine feels like it's built like a tank.
EirHc@reddit
If you like sitting at your desk very reclined, then get the Secret Labs Titan EVO XL
It's a chair that's basically designed for gamers who play their games in a reclined position. This community is always going to tell you that "all gamer chairs are scams" and while, they are probably right in like 90% of cases, Secret Labs is the chair that most other gamer chair companies are trying to copy and make cheaper versions of to scam you with.
I have extremely broad shoulders, and I easily fit in my SecretLabs chair and am extremely comfortable in it. Additionally, being reclined is pretty much the healthiest way you can sit in a chair if you spend lots of time in it. It's better for your back, heart, cardiovascular, and it's even good for preventing carpal tunnel... but that's in conjunction with having good wrist habits.
The Titan EVO XL is advertised on their website as being for guys up to 6'9" so it should be perfect for you.
Antenoralol@reddit
Might need to look at a Bariatric Office chair
steak4take@reddit
This is actually the best advice. Bariatric Office chairs are rated to higher weights and support larger frames.
Antenoralol@reddit
A decent one that can hold up to like 220kg is similar in price to a gaming chair.
FinancialRip2008@reddit
6'3, 240lbs. lotta muscle, lotta fat. lol. i guess you're canadian with the mixed units.
i struggled for ages with this. i've had a herman miller aeron B for ?8? years now? it has held up. it was a 90s model i bought off craigslist for 300 bucks. i replaced the seat pan a couple years ago, and that was about 100 dollars, but it feels taught now. the load bearing parts have replacements available at a reasonable cost.
it's like a chair-hammock. in the winter i drape a blanket over it. in the summer i blast a fan up my butt. don't judge.
there's an aeron C (the letter is for the size of the intended user) that's intended for bigger folks than me. i've sat in it, it's nice. i could go either way. you're more person than me, and i gotta believe that'd fit like my B. it's taller, wider, etc.
regarding your concerns-
the arm rest height is adjustable. some arm rests are rubber and those get nasty. i don't use the highest setting for the arm rests.
shoulders just aren't an issue. not that sort of chair. the C back is noticeably wider than the B. i prefer the C, but my B is plenty to be comfortable.
i hate lumbar support. can't help there. there are accessories but you don't want my opinion.
B/C weight limit is 350lbs.
unmentioned- the seat spring in my chair isn't really sufficient. i don't mind, and i know the C spring is firmer. but that's a thing.
i'm not specifically advocating for an aeron C, but it should absolutely be on your radar.
TEKUMS@reddit
I was also looking at getting a Herman Miller Aeron but when I went to the guy to go buy it he actually suggested I get the Mirra instead.
Glad I did, the back is a lot more flexible and doesn't dig into my back like it did when I was using my wife's Aeron. I'm 6'1" and about 290lb.
I feel that everyone suggest the Aeron because that's their most popular chair but they do have different options and if you have the chance to try them out I highly recommend it.
FinancialRip2008@reddit
ooo that looks really nice. i didn't know that existed. maybe my next chair- i wasn't doing great financially when i got my aeron.
i agree wrt aeron inertia. for me, i live in silicon valley and there's startups crashing all the time. there's a plethora of aerons available used for any budget. so the move is just to find a nice one with the specs you want. mine was really old but super low buttmileage and in minty condition for 200 bucks.
i got up to 270lbs during covid and the back frame hurt me too (and the butt pan was too narrow). at 240 it's not a problem tho, and when i bought it i was 210lbs and the B was more comfy.
botmatrix_@reddit
I'm about your size, little less, but with a pretty long leg length and shoulder width proportionally. Size C is perfect for me so I'd definitely suggest that for OP
DJKaotica@reddit
I should probably try this, ty!
Fast_n_theSpurious@reddit
I recommend...For various reasons.
Yurgin@reddit
I just went to my local store and bought one of their XXL Office Chairs after siting on them there.
I just payed 300€ for it and had 0 problems the last 3 years with it.
Dont get a gaming chair they just suck and are for looks. I had one before for half a year and it killed my back. I thought i would have prblem with it because im to fat (140kg) but i was just to wide for it.
sc00p401@reddit
I just got a Secret Lab Titan Evo XL - I'm about the same size as you I think (345lb) and it's very comfortable and supports my back pretty nicely too. Was about $650 USD after tax .
Voyde@reddit
If you’re into the gaming aesthetic I got a AndaSeat Kaiser. I’m 6’5 and heavier than you, I got the XL version. I’ve had it for 3 years now, sit in it for 8+ hours a day and it still looks as good as the day I bought it. This thing is made with steel and is heavy duty. I couldn’t recommend it more.
ElFrijole@reddit
I used to weigh 450 pounds (down to 255 and I am 6'1" in 2019 I bought a chair from ewin racing because it was rated for how big I was at the time. I can truthfully say that right now I am sitting in the same chair since 2019 and I have had zero issues with it. It is very pricey but I feel like I got my moneys worth.
jokerkcco@reddit
I love the steelcase leap chairs. The v1 is my favorite. I have a v1 and a V2. They're great for all these things. I'm 6'2" and was 360 at my heaviest and it was still great.
s3gfau1t@reddit
I'm 6'3 and heavier than you are.
https://www.staples.ca/products/1867850-en-serta-smart-layers-hensley-big-and-tall-executive-chair-brown?listId=search
These have changed slightly over the years, stylistically, but they're basically the same chair. My boss brought a ratty beat up one from home, but it was the most comfortable chair in the place. I bought two for at home during the pandemic. Basically every other office chair I've ever sat in has been uncomfortable, except this one.
They have floor models at Staples, so you can try them out.
Sturmx@reddit
I have the "shaq" chair before it changed to that by True Innovations. Its a leather officer chair that is wide and very nice imo with a steel base. Has a really long warranty and its not $500+.
Luc4_Blight@reddit
I got a good office chair instead. Best purchase I ever made.
jaakeup@reddit
I love how in all these threads the top answers are the same "gaming chairs bad, look up office chairs and find good brand" Like why do you think they're here? We're looking for good brands. Not to say this question hasn't been asked 100 times already but some of y'all act like bots the way you instantly comment the same thing and are completely unhelpful
Fast_n_theSpurious@reddit
I am a big+tall guy as well, let me tell you do NOT get a "gaming" chair. Look at herman miller aeron and try to find one used, or any herman miller office desk chair. It's worth it.
Nexxus88@reddit
The Herman Millar Aeron has 3 sizings available the C would be the most appropriate for you.
with that said I don't know if the C goes large enough for your usecase so you will wanna look that up. You can get them second hand for fractions of the price of a new one and they are plentiful if you are near a major population center.
I had a pre-owned one and its date of manufacture was 1998 and it didn't catastrophically fail until 2020 or 2021.
mister_newbie@reddit
The only "gaming" chair worth anything is the Logitech collab with the Herman Miller Embody, and frankly, I'd prefer a regular one.
heliosfa@reddit
6'2 150kg person here, I'm sat on a Kaiser at the moment as I'm away from home and I find that the frame in the wings dig in after a while as the padding is almost non-existent (that's after spreading them out wider with a clamp...). It also has a weird bend in the backrest.
SecretLab Titan XL with a cushion on the seat serves me well at home.
In work, I have a proper office chair rated up to about 180kg that's got a deep seat.
Tech_support_Warrior@reddit
I am a little shorter and a little lighter, but a Secret Lab Titan XL my favorite chair. The biggest thing for me is that the foam in the seat is doesn't "deflate" after sitting it. It's firm but still comfortable.
Before the Herman Miller employees get here, I have a Herman Miller Aeron at my work desk and it's OK. If I am in the office a lot I get leg and hip pain. We also have a Steel Case Leap that I tried and that chair is pretty meh too.

I'm using a "GABRYLLY Ergonomic Office Chair" (it's almost certainly a knockoff of something).
ASIN - B07Y8BXBX8
I also improved the rolling, and added some seat height (ASIN B09JMMN6W2) This is the only chair I have ever had that I don't have set to maximum height, and still feel like it's too low.

I'ma pretty big dude too and have been enjoying a chair from OfficeMax that Shaquille O'Neal makes. Dunno when he started making chairs but they're made for bigger guys and aren't a thousand dollars.

A used size C Herman Miller Aeron
BobbyJablonski@reddit
Gaming chairs aren't good when it comes to longterm better check some office chairs (high end ones)
Blaze9@reddit
6'5" and 300lb, muscle and fat. Had the Aeron size C for a long time (3+ years) and I loved it. Found a deal on an Embody for $400 and jumped on it. And I have to say, it's even better. Back is way more supportive. I had the original aeron w/ the single back rest, which was okay but upper back didn't have this level of support.
I think Aeron is fantastic if you find one, but embody is even better.
zman2100@reddit
6’4”, 220lbs here. I sat in a Herman Miller Sayl for a bit and it was decent but definitely too small for me. I recently scored a killer deal on a floor model Steelcase Leap v2 for $250, and it’s been phenomenal. I can actually make it fit me perfectly, including having the armrests come right up to where I need them to. The high back supports my whole body, and the lumbar is so adjustable that you can crank it up or down to your liking for both height and support.
I like it so much that I’m going to pick another one up today. I found a used one last week for $250 that was in great shape but someone beat me to it. Today I’m picking one up that looks like it is a part of an office liquidation and the guy doesn’t really know what he has and I’m giving him $20 for it. The seat condition looks iffy from the photos, but worst case scenario if it can’t be thoroughly cleaned and brought back to life, I’ll buy cushion replacements from Crandall for $200 and still be in great shape with an awesome chair that retails for over $1,000. Look at the used market and something will come up if you’re patient.
cheerfulsith@reddit
6’6” 131kg guy. If you can, get a big and take office chair. If you can’t, get an office chair that is comfortable and do the following:
Replace the piston/ cylinder with a taller one, I got mine off Amazon and it was labeled big and tall.
Replace the casters with the roller blade wheel versions.
Now my cheaper gaming chair sits perfect. These modifications made the chair almost sit too tall for me at the lowest setting.
lichtspieler@reddit
6'2" and I use a basic IKEA ALEFJÄLL.
https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/alefjaell-office-chair-glose-black-10367461/
It got a sturdy one piece frame with a a lot of range in depth adjustment with the back side.
The armrest is also part of the one piece frame and I could stand on it. The armrest hight works for my \~74cm desk hight - FOR GAMING with a keyboard/mouse.
It is very wide and allows a lot of sitting positions, its comfortable for 14-16+ hours with no pressure points.
Any comfortable but movement restricting chair will most likely just cause pressure points with your weight over longer sitting durations. You might want to look for something that is wide enough to switch sitting possitions.
I play MMO's and had a lot of chairs in the past, that worked fine for a few hours, but not for 8+ hours per day.
Mapale@reddit
1,96m and 135kg here, my solution was the IKEA JÄRVFJÄLLET - at least thats what its called in Europe. Should be available on other continents too.
You can actually try it out in the store. I have it for 3 or 4 years now and its still in very good condition. Before that I'd have to buy a new chair like once a year because they were done and starting to fall apart.
I even got 10 years warranty on it.

As a 6'3" guy, with longer than average lengths for someone my height (longer than my 6'5" friend), I feel your pain. The biggest thing to pay attention to, imo, is seat depth. That's my biggest issue with pretty much every chair I've tried. Even ones with adjustable seat depth, I find the biggest isn't nearly enough.
Realistically, your best bet is going to be something like a Size C Herman Miller Aeron, but obviously they aren't cheap, and I'd try one out in person if you can somehow first.
Nayleen@reddit
Gaming chairs suck. Yes all of them. Do yourself and avoid them like the plague. They are not built with comfort, posture or your back in mind.
Please get a real office / ergonomic chair (HM, Steelcase etc.). Get a second hand or refurbished one if too expensive for you. You owe it to your back.

If HÅG is sold in the US, the SOFI Mesh 7500 has great support for tall guys. Especially with the headrest.

No_Package_6433@reddit
get a big and tall 24/7 rated "control room" type of chair, they are built very well for longevity and comfort
CommercialOne6435@reddit
At your size, you'll definitely want to pay close attention to the shoulder width and seat depth. I found that many chairs, whether gaming or office style, have those side bolsters that work great for average sized people but can feel restrictive if you have broader shoulders. The AndaSeat Kaiser 3 you tried is actually one of the better options in terms of width. For materials, I've personally had better long term experience with fabric upholstery it tends to hold up well over time and doesn't get as hot during long sessions. Just make sure whatever you choose has adjustable armrests that can go high enough for your height.
