Once DDR6 Ram is released any actual hardware would be compatible?

Hi. I'm planning to buy a new pc at the end of the year, and I really want the best hardware I can get so I don't have to buy a new computer in several years. I've read about DDR6 releasing very soon (less than a year from now), so I thought maybe is better to wait, or can I use my hardware bought like motherboard and processor to this new DDR6 Ram once is released?
My last desktop computer was bought almost 15 years ago, and I have more or less the same hardware now. I'm very into having the most time possible with a device and not leaving my pc at least I have too many issues with it. Well, the time has come I guess, as I'm using more work related software which put my pc really slow from a while ago. I have SSD hard drive, the only hardware I've add, besides adding a little more of Rams some years ago.
Do you know if it's possible? Or once DDR6 exists very good hardware like, I don't know, for example AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and MSI MEG X870E GODLIKE would became not compatible?
I hope your gentle answers, thank you! :)

Oh boy ddr 6-_-.. here i am planning my next purchase of ddr4 32*2 kit lol I was planning to move to am5. But looking at the current market I have decided to upgrade my current pc and skip Am5 completely. Upgraded my cpu from 3600 to 5700x, only bcuz 5700x3d has been out of stock for i don't know how long. I have rtx 3070 which I think will be good enough for atleast a few more years.
Creepy-Reference8723@reddit
então n vale a pena comprar um 9800x3d agora????? acabei de compar um,..
Disastrous_Monk_9675@reddit
ddr6 would be useless for Consumer applications, u dont need 12000MHZ ram to play video games lmao.
ScheduledToPass@reddit
Very good point , i think the difference will be microscopic milliseconds
ReasonableNetwork255@reddit
ddr5 or even ddr4 isnt going to be obsolete for years .. maybe6 at least .. if you go right to the leading edge what can happen is alot of things dont really fully support it yet and it can run worse with mote bugs than solid established hardware builds .. and so.etimes the standards are updated and you STILL miss the boat .. the version you got they superseded lol ..i recommend not aiming too high but thats me ..in my experience you arnt winning doing that .. no such thing as 'future proof' and 'bottle necks' blah blah .. everything ..everything has a limit that it bottlenecks at ..
AcidList1@reddit
Ddr4 after YEARS is finally becoming obsolete with production and stock finally dwindling
Disastrous_Note5286@reddit
You can find government sites where they will have DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5 machines, usually DDR4. Tech refreshes can't refresh certain things, and those end up staying on the older hardware
ReasonableNetwork255@reddit
but systems with it like am4 will likely be supported by software for another 5 years or so .. so its still relevant
opaopasuperfan@reddit
should i go for ddr4? i'm currently building a pc and it will be a few hundred dollars cheaper for ddr4 with the absurd ram prices currently. Am4 mobo's also seem to be a little cheaper
ReasonableNetwork255@reddit
id say any games up to now its not a problem at all .. but in 6 or so years all the hardware turns over again ..pc's never last forever ..and am4/ddr4 really is only one step behind current hardware .. that is very little disadvantage long term ..by the time an am4 system isnt supported by software anymore an am5 will be dated and on its way out the following year ..
opaopasuperfan@reddit
hmmm okay, im really torn. If i can get 32gb of ddr5 at auction for $350, would you say i should just go am5?
AcidList1@reddit
Oh gosh I made this comment 3 months ago. 3 months before the ram shortage. If you absolutely cant hols off until late 2026-2027 then get ram NOW before it skyrockets even higher
opaopasuperfan@reddit
Currently trying lol, even the cheaper options are $300-$330
mgerick_@reddit
Still using DDR4 with my i5 14600K.
kaje@reddit
DDR6 won't be compatible with CPUs and mobos that are available today.
Bardox30@reddit (OP)
Oh, too bad. I guess waiting a little longer will be better if assuring a durable hardware is needed. I know you don't know exactly, but after DDR6 how much time do you think it will take to releasing of new motherboards and processor compatible with DDR6 Rams?
err99@reddit
ddr6 probably won't be seen in consumer computers until 2028 at the earliest.
Scooter_Dave@reddit
It's a pipe dream , funny how I.A. needs all the ddr5 possible. Just before ddr6 ? You think it was a conspiracy theory for the computer goons, and scalpers
Just_Maintenance@reddit
DDR6 will probably launch next year with computers using it coming late 2026 or early 2027.
Remzi1993@reddit
Aged like milk. No it will not and never followed that kind of cadence. New spec of RAM is released manufactures start manufacture it a year later, new mobos get released after 2 to 5 years after release of new RAM spec. So usually after a new spec it will be affordable to consumers after 5 years of spec release.
gab01286@reddit
El año que viene se va a lanzar para la IA y uso comercial
sniperfoxeh@reddit
im so sorry you waited
Bardox30@reddit (OP)
Yeah, me too.
Sconcewell@reddit
Best of luck :)
Tuned_Out@reddit
This didn't age well. DDR6 will be gobbled by ai customers for a very long time after its release. There will be no rush to get it in consumers rigs. Ddr5 will be the standard very much longer than we initially anticipated.
No_Cardiologist3321@reddit
Maybe ddr5 prices will come back down then...
ReasonableUnion7974@reddit
Doubt it. Or at the very least we’ll get insane cheap resold ddr5
yonk9@reddit
I think we'll just be insane.

ou_minchia_guardi@reddit
wouldnt be that sure
Kittysmashlol@reddit
Probably quite a while. It will also remain very expensive until manufacturers start prioritizing it for production. Its not worth waiting for
SumonaFlorence@reddit
... yeeeeeah.. :c
Ninlilizi_@reddit
Best case scenario, maybe 3 years. In something worth buying, maybe 5-6 years?
kaje@reddit
Next gen AMD is expected to be on AM5, so it's still going to be DDR5. That's probably a year away. AM6 with DDR6 will probably be a couple of years after that.
DDR6 is not something that's worth waiting for anyways.
After_Wrap_4976@reddit
I remember back in 2007 I bought ddr3 as soon as it came out, it was expensive the first time it comes out, but became the gold standard for the next 10 years. So it can be worth it in a way, depends how often you upgrade. But with AI it'll be substantially more expensive as the will purge the stock, so might be best to let the AI bubble burst.

SnooDoughnuts7081@reddit
why
jexbox1987@reddit
If you don't know DDR6 Ram horizontally mounted, instead of vertically. I had seen the demo few years ago. So utilizing the CAMM2 (Compression Attached Memory Module) standard. This design change aims to solve signal integrity issues at high speeds that traditional vertically mounted DIMM slots struggle with.
They will can even have 256GB Chip per module. So in future we can technically have 1TB of System RAM if new CPU releases allows it.
LowSlow3278@reddit
You can't future proof a PC. Just buy what you can afford. In 5 years the bottom teir gpu will be as good as a 5090 today.
Pleasant_Adagio2420@reddit
You can expect some laptops to come with it during Q2-Q4 2027 and getting more popular after that assuming the A.I. bubble pops before/during then so ram prices go back down. TechPowerUp DDR6 Release Date
Substantial_Lake7893@reddit
this is a big "if". AI bubble isnt like dot com
TraditionalMetal1836@reddit
Hold your horses. DDR5 has only been out a few years now. I'd give it at least another 2-3 before we see DDR6 boards.
AcidList1@reddit
No Ddr6 is actually expected to come out late 2025 but is most likely only going to be for the general public in later 2026-2027. Only the nerds who actually need ddr6 or tech youtubers will have a use for it earlier than most
mgerick_@reddit
Still hasn’t come out.
Substantial_Lake7893@reddit
its typically 7 years, these guys are tweaking. prolly late 2027-mid 2028
NoNerve3077@reddit
The motherboards will all need to get updated to support it. Just get a PC that can support DDR5
Robot_Graffiti@reddit
DDR5 doesn't fit in DDR4 slots, DDR4 doesn't fit in DDR3 slots. So probably not, no.
But the good news is you don't really need to. It'll be a while before any games come out that are unplayable on DDR5. You can game on DDR4 today.
Ok-Establishment-849@reddit
Issue is if u seriously play u need the ram to go pro and it’s going to be absurdly expensive at first.

What game has a big esport scene and requires extensive ram lmao, this isn’t a thing. There isn’t a single game that has an esport scene that can’t run good with 16gb ddr4. If you have 32gb ddr4 you will run perfectly on any game that isn’t some sort of extensive simulator.
Local_Community_7510@reddit
wait unplayable on DDR5? damn what kind of games that could be crashed due to Ram type ?
Robot_Graffiti@reddit
I'm not suggesting it'll crash.
Some day there'll be a game that runs really fucking slow if you play it on an old PC that has DDR5.
My point was that that day has not yet come and I don't think it'll come for a few years yet. Like, gaming on DDR5 in 2035 will be a drag but it's fine for now.
iPhone-5-2021@reddit
Gaming on ddr3 in 2025 is still decent
Majestic-Estimate995@reddit
please define a decent experience compared to DDR5 performance :D

I hope ddr4 ram prices go down when ddr6 comes out. 😩😩
gab01286@reddit
No, van a ser para los procesadores de AMD AM6 (con nuevo nombre de procesadores), Intel Core Ultra 500, y Nvidia NX1.
Charming-Location-71@reddit
youre not getting it anytime soon 😂
RevolutionaryBoot865@reddit
sing RAMageddon is happening, I am waiting
Robochemist78@reddit
I think I'd hold off for DDR8. That'll be sick!
Putrid_Counter5150@reddit
yeah 80k MHZ lol A Beast load up 12k 50inc display at 120Hz at Ultra High Set and Max PathTracing in 2036 XD
Putrid_Counter5150@reddit
It will be crazy expensive and ddr5 it's already very good and fast with the best 8/8,5K Mhz speed you will be very well covered for the next several years :)
Routine-Bug-6843@reddit
Rtx 6000 gpus are expected to come early 2027 around 1 year 1 month away might as well wait since its a node shrink amd expect a big peformance jump. And if you waited that long amds new plattform maybe isnt far of. Personaly wakting untill ddr6 comes+amds new plattform+ a new gpu series release after so maybe 2028-2029. If your current computer is bad buy one now, but if you can wait you will have a top system for new GTA, Witcher 4, Elder Scrolls, Fallout 5 etc. Thoose games comes like less then each decade so worth uppgrading for them
Character_Read328@reddit
With the recent development in DDR5 shortage and insane price increases, i belive 2028/29 is when we will see DDR6 available for us consumers..
The_Myth_Axiden@reddit
Hey don’t know if you’ve bought the pc yet but I would recommend waiting till mid 2025 as ram has recently doubled in price as well as that is you want ddr6 the server stuff is coming out early 2027 so the consumer stuff will probably be around mid 2027 so I would recommend waiting till early 2028 or if you want ddr6 with other components having all their kinks worked out and the price of the ram itself would’ve dropped as well as that waiting till early 2028 the price of ddr5 will also show up substantially
Midboys@reddit
DDR6 will take liie 5 years bro , forget it
Local_Community_7510@reddit
all i can see either some Motherboard would use DDR6 or CAMM2
DDR6 which is doubling the speed, some modules even gotta need robust cooling system since RAM have such high frequencies
while CAMM2 are offering more capacity per module, DDR offer up to 32 gb per sticks, CAMM2 offers up to 128 GB, and can operate as dual-channel on single module
both of these are most likely adopted by workstation since the price would be spiking at first wave of release and much more like overkill for some general users
i do agree DDR4 are starting to show it's age since DDR5 here, and DDR6 about to came out, the real question lies on how the stable system would be?
i mean.... what is the point of having your game run like 200+ FPS but it crashes every 5 minutes just because your hardware is new and less compatible than most existing software
Anywhere311@reddit
DDR 6 will be using camm2 . It’s replacing Dimm & so-dimm.

Thanks.
Anywhere311@reddit
Ddr6 fully won’t be scaled for a few years . Shit , there’s still half the population using ddr4
voyager2fromearth@reddit
I was just reading about a newer type of DDR5 called CUDIMM. These can evidently reach speeds of 9000 mhz +, faster than traditional DDR5.
nesnalica@reddit
dont worry about DDR6. you wont be able to use it anyways.
We have to wait for AM6 to (very likely) start using DDR6.
AM4 released 2016
AM5 released 2022
we arent expecting AM6 before at least 2028. so by the time you can use DDR6 you gotta wait until 2028/2029 at the earliest. but we wont know if AM5 will have a longer lifecycle than AM4.
Plenty-Industries@reddit
DDR6 is many years off.
It took well over 5 years before DDR4 released to the consumer market when the initial architecture was finalized.
Development of DDR6 started a couple years ago.
Affectionate-Memory4@reddit
There are currently no consumer CPUs on the market with DDR6 controllers, so no. Along with ddr6, new chips with suitable controllers, and motherboards with new dimm slots or camm sockets will be released. Intel will likely have a generation that supports both ddr5 and ddr6, like how Alder/Raptor Lake did ddr4 and ddr5, while AMD may change sockets again and go all-in on it right away.
apmspammer@reddit
That's for servers. For home PC it will probably be like 3 years.
DaEccentric@reddit
Waiting for DDR6 is kind of... useless. Just get what you can get nowadays, there's no big generational leap planned for a couple of years.
EnigmaSpore@reddit
You're more than likely going to be waiting until 2027 if you're trying to wait on ddr6 support from AMD or Intel platforms.
There's no point in waiting either. DDR6 isnt going to make or break your system at all. DDR5 is plenty fast enough with the current CPU and GPUs. I wouldnt overthink this one.
sakata_gintoki113@reddit
you wont notice a difference lol
SkarletIce@reddit
DDR6 isn't actually releasing anytime soon u may have read something regarding LP dimms and testing it but DDR5 still has a little bit to go plus DDR6 when it comes out will be very similar to what ever the top end DDR5 is out so Id say don't worry about it.
also love the CPU and motherboard choice
SilentBobVG@reddit
It'll likely only be available for AMD's next gen platform AM6 and Intels next platform
