Concerning even if it isn't Putin saying it

Not new, and not concerning. Medvedev threatens nuclear war on a weekly basis, as does Russian state media. Wait for a more substantive signaling before getting concerned like the signals listed in this piece https://www.newsweek.com/3-signs-vladimir-putin-getting-serious-about-using-nuclear-weapons-opinion-1997866
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
You do know that Putin doesn't need to use nukes, don't you? All he needs to do is to attack our grid.
Due_Search_8040@reddit
They even haven’t successfully shut down Ukraine’s electrical grid despite constant cyber, drone, and missile attacks over three and a half years
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
Different situations. That you don't understand that Putin has operatives in the US in order to do this and that there is a war in Ukraine perplexes me.
Melstrick@reddit
That you dont understand how power grids work perplexes me.
> All he needs to do is to attack our grid.
What grid? There isn't a single "off switch" for the U.S. power grid. It's a complex, multi-layered network of three major interconnections (Eastern, Western, and Texas), each with thousands of independent utilities, transmission operators, and substations. Taking down the entire grid isn't as simple as flipping a switch or launching a cyberattack.
Unless you genuinely believe russia has thousands of operatives and have been hoarding 0 day exploits for every single different system used in the power grid that no has patched yet.
MrD3a7h@reddit
Clearly you haven't seen the documentary "Live Free or Die Hard"
altiorrex@reddit
Eh, after the admin compromised our systems I'd hedge the likelihood higher now than before at least.
Coupe368@reddit
The grid in America is the most heavily guarded infrastructure in the country after active military bases. Attacking the grid would be the dumbest thing they could do as they would immediately be caught.
Attacking the water systems, that's fragmented and there is no federal management or monitoring.
We know exactly what they did to the grid in Ukraine during the cyber attack that immediately preceded the invasion of Ukraine. Short of 1000lb glide bombs, Russia can't do anything to the American Power Grid that would last more than a few hours and knock out power to 50k people at best.
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
Heavily guarded? What hoot! I have driven over most of the US and never have I seen any substations or high lines guarded.
Now, if you have proof of that, I'd love to see it.
Coupe368@reddit
Break into one and see how fast you get caught. Its federally mandated that all substations have 24/7 security monitoring. There may be no people, but there are cameras everywhere.
If you can take out a high voltage tower, the power will just re-route, but that's an act of war and probably too far for Russian agents.
At best they could knock out a low voltage line and strand a few neighborhoods for a few days.
QHCprints@reddit
Oh honey... it's not anywhere near that simple.
Mother-Wasabi-3088@reddit
And those transformers have multi-year manufacturing lead times and no spares laying around. An attack on the power grid could potentially send us back to Victorian times for months or years.
Coupe368@reddit
No spares laying around? Every power company in America has a warehouse full of transformers. They are constantly replaced as they age out. Maybe they are hard to come by in other countries.
QHCprints@reddit
Rednecks in WV would disagree.

Fantastic_Baseball45@reddit
Malcolm Nance reported that the hydroelectric and flood prevention dams have had their water release function hacked prior to 2016.
BigGolonka@reddit
should def be prepping thats what we discuss here, but don't think that would go without massive response. We are in their grids too they know we will hit them harder.
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
Oh, I know there'd be a rapid response. That doesn't mean hitting our grid wouldn't cause chaos.
BigGolonka@reddit
people that pay attention to russia/Ukraine conflict understand medvedev says the craziest stuff. He is to be ignored
gold_cajones@reddit
They did actually, for a few months, about a year into the war. It was repaired via no small efforts by NATO
jredful@reddit
I remember when Medvedev looked like a potential liberalizing force in Russia. New hopes of rapprochement. Now he looks like a true Putin successor.
ManOf1000Usernames@reddit
No, he was always a lackey who only appeared distant from Putin in order to win an election back when putin was term limited. Once they got rid of term limits, he hung on as a sychophant who appears crazy to make putin seem reasonable (medvedev also is a drunkard who drunkposts a lot at night).
jredful@reddit
Fucking Reddit man.
We are saying the same fucking thing. Stop disagreeing with people.
SyntaxDissonance4@reddit
Russia never had any intention of seriously considering peace talks. They were outright aggressors from day one and wanted the land for pillage and plunder.
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
Peace talks won't mean they leave or give anything back.
SyntaxDissonance4@reddit
Right. From day 1 this was all or nothing for Ukraine.
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
I disagree. Ukraine could lose 4 Oblasts and take the L.
If they fight till they lack manpower then they will lose everything and cease to exist.
If they take the diplomatic L they may still have a country and a society to rebuild and rearm.
SyntaxDissonance4@reddit
Russia isn't gonna stop. A diplomatic L is just saying that you understand Russia will invade again once they've re armed more
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
Oh yeah. I think it's their best play.
Get some territory for the political win at home. Then rearm and rebuild and modernize.
It would be silly not to redesign the military and armored vehicles and start building that.
Instead they are going to abandon armor as any kind of effective tool and keep going at whatever their production rate is... Which seems like a bad idea but idk.
SyntaxDissonance4@reddit
I don't think armor makes sense in modern warfare. Artillery sure , tanks? Nah. The "mobile artillery" is now just a mobile drone sponge and the steel and productive capacity used to make one tank could make a devastating storm of drones.
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
It may be a lack of developnent atm.
Sometimes weapons develop first then armor or mobile artillery are suffering.
It could be future versions of those categories get better anti drone tech. Idk. Maybe smaller tanks with better camo or more varieties of reactive defenses.
Maybe they can build them to limit heat and radio signature by jets to confuse ai spotter drones.
As it is old 1970 tank models and 1960 apcs are probably useless. Much agreed.
Delli-paper@reddit
What's concerning? That Russia says it will fight on until Ukraine surrenders? They've been saying that since the very first day of the war. Putin needs a victory to remain in power.
Deicide1031@reddit
Putin has been saying this since the USSR collapsed and he watched Gorbachev make all those stupid decisions.
I don’t understand how anyone would think he’d back down without force tbh.
SmileAggravating9608@reddit
Exactly. Nothing new here. Russia does not want peace and only offered complete capitulation terms from the start. This is just another instance of them calling anything provocative, the West/Ukraine are instigating war, etc.
gov77@reddit
Considering that Russia wanted a buffer zone between them and NATO countries, the US dismissed everything we said we would honor, then put in a puppet government, NATO trying to move into the 'buffer zone'.
Visible-Okra9985@reddit
You do realize that NATO was created to form a unified defense against Russia, right? The nation that has been trying to subjugate it's neighbouring countries for the last couple of hundred years?
Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic or us in Finland sure as shit haven't been the ones invading them.
SmileAggravating9608@reddit
You russian apologists/liars are tiresome. This didn't happen at all. Ukraine wanted to stay free and Russia insisted on installing its own puppet (stealing!) President and government. Ukraine booted them, you guys sent little green men to pretend to be freedom fighters and start this whole shebang, etc.
Go away! No one believes your BS here.
IllustriousCoast6414@reddit

Deicide1031@reddit
Put your seatbelt on because if Europe and the Americans don’t nut up and put their foot down the Baltics are next.
Putins writings and speech’s are transitioning to less sophistication and increasingly growing more unhinged because of his age, he has no intention of stopping if he thinks countries will roll over.
Mediocre_Ask5220@reddit
Putin was saying "Where to, buddy?" for the better part of a decade after the Soviet Union collapsed.
MobileSuitPhone@reddit
He lost the war, so what's his play
Delli-paper@reddit
Nah he would simply win
Shoddy-Childhood-511@reddit
Russia just scuttled a peace talks like two week ago, using some clownish maneuver, right?
Just fyi, Rome (Jerome Reuter) has really awesome pro-Ukraine neo-folk songs on his recent albums, especially Gates of Europe.
altiorrex@reddit
Is the clownish maneuver something besides bombarding civilians during the talks? That seems part of the deal of peace talks with muscovy.
Shoddy-Childhood-511@reddit
No, something dumb at the talks, or some dumb reason for cancelling, I forgot.
altiorrex@reddit
And it wasn't poisoning the Ukrainian diplomats again like the 2/3rd round of talks early on?
Fermooto@reddit
OP probably a bot spreading fear to try to influence Ukraine support. Russia has been saying this since day one of the invasion. We're the goddamn United States, why should we keep flinching at Russia? Alternative is OP is gullible enough to believe the Russians at face value, which is also pretty bad.
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
Because no missile intercept system can stop all their nukes at once... Assuming they even work.
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
And you are probably a rude troll feeling that way.
Fermooto@reddit
Lol.... Sure ryadovoy vladimir
Meatcrab1@reddit
This is actually well in line with Kremlin talking points. I don’t wanna underplay the danger of the conflict in anyway but these type of threats have been long part of the Russian playbook to intimidate the West into inaction and further weaken Ukraine.
Trump for all the shortcomings he has, has made an attempt to create dialogue to end the war and has been rejected by Putin. The reality is that Putin doesn’t want to end the war, he wants Ukraine, Russia is gonna have to be forced to end this war and worn down to the point that it can no longer be waged.
Corrupted_G_nome@reddit
We thought it would be their armor shortage.
They must be about out of tanks now but their army is larger than ever and rumors they are expanding their offensives.
exqueezemenow@reddit
What peace efforts?
KJHagen@reddit
Medvedev is constantly saying things like this. I can’t count the times he’s threatened nuclear war. I think this is just the role Putin wants him to play.
WadeBronson@reddit
If you haven’t yet, please read the book by Scott Horton “Provoked: How Washington Started the New Cold War with Russia and the Catastrophe in Ukraine“.
Ukraine cannot win this war, and Zelenskyy is sacrificing an entire generation of young men to support the wests military industrial complex, and the wests reliance on unlimited gdp growth.
I would challenge anyone here to tell me how Ukraine can defeat Russia.
Lastly, if you were Russia, and you felt forced to invade Ukraine for security reasons, and you immediately offered a peace proposal of; no nato for Ukraine, limited military size in Ukraine, recognition of autonomy for the Donbas, and Crimea, and Ukraine spit in your face. Then you successfully waged war for 40 months, sacrificing near a million Russian souls, while undergoing massive sanctions, a weaponized global currency, and a wholly hostile west willing to destroy the critical infrastructure of their own partner to hurt you, and your demands have largely remained the same; no NATO for Ukraine, limited military size in Ukraine, and recognition of the conquered territories in Ukraine, why would you accept anything less than that. Why would you agree to a ceasefire that will ultimately bear no fruit (because Ukraine is not budging on anything less than pre 2014 borders and financial compensation) that will only serve to give Ukraine time to reconstitute.
I see the talking heads, the experts; talk about this all the time, and none of them are willing to discuss this inconvenient truth.
Nato, America specifically, spent 14 years building up and training a nato military force of Ukrainians, and poured unlimited military and financial assistance into Ukraine, and they still lost the war against Russia. It is long time to accept this reality.
Ebscriptwalker@reddit
you seem to have no idea what unlimited means
NoMaybe3367@reddit
LOL! It‘s Medvedev. The personification of diarrhea.
02meepmeep@reddit
I thought he was 20% vodka.
NoMaybe3367@reddit
Fair enough! :D
Effective-Ebb-2805@reddit
If Russia is so concerned about peace negotiations, perhaps it should pack up all their shit and go back east, across the border, and home. Anything other than giving up the land they've invaded and occupied (stolen) is meaningless.
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
They can't do that; it would make Putin look weak and harm his ego. ;)
ytman@reddit
I mean the global powers need to figure out what they are doing about Ukraine.
Like it or not, Ukraine's soveriegnity isn't at stake here. It'll have little either way.
Ukraine is next to a nuclear superpower that is afraid of European/NATO expansion. It is also the bullwark to provide a strategy of defense in depth, and choking out economically Russia by the NATO powers.
NATO is a product of the US trying, and succeeding in, building a global economic order around its supremacy. NATO, as a result, will only ever be antagonistic to Russia. Which as a result will only see Russia be antagonistic back. This dates to the collapse of fascism in Germany after 1945.
So. Ukraine gets the fun role of being a pawn or a proxy. Does it get to buffer the west from Russia or Russia from the west?
It has never been about Ukrainians and it will never be only about them.
-Calm_Skin-@reddit
Is that a goiter?
banbha19981998@reddit
I remember reading this account about a prospective economic war between Europe and America and the idea was to push America into an anti immigrant frenzy to undermine agriculture and construction.
regjoe13@reddit
Medvedev daily threatens to turn everything from Russia to Gibraltar into a glass. Nobody cares, including the Russians. Its actually a source of jokes there.
irsh_@reddit

Yeah sure, make a move idiot, or STFU.

Don’t listen to this fool. Common knowledge in Europe is that he is a drunk. Once in a while they sober him up and tell him to say some dumb shit.
CriminalSavant@reddit
Putin understands only one language: action. He respects only one word: force.
The Russians must be confronted at all costs. Hold fast.
Coupe368@reddit
Shouldn't be that concerning, Trump literally offered Putin everything he could possibly ask for on a silver platter and Putin snubbed him.
Seems Putin is greedy and doesn't know he doesn't have the resources to conquer all of Ukraine.
This war will go on until the Russian government implodes and Putin is executed by his own people.
Glad-Tie3251@reddit
Probably a Trump follower to be that clueless about Putin. It's his only way to stay in power.
KountryKrone@reddit (OP)
Sorry, your lame, false insult only makes you look bad and says nothing about me.
Try again when you have something adult to add.
roger3rd@reddit
Nothing new, nothing. Their argument is “let us take Ukraine or we start WW3”. Embargo those mfers. CLOSE THE FN SKY NOW! NATO must start defending the airspace from a humanitarian point of view else they will be the next meal. Get our jets in the air
StationPrize9363@reddit
Don’t pay Medvedev any mind, he just says crazy shit so he doesn’t get the window treatment after his role as the somewhat more pro-western than Putin president.
Homey-Airport-Int@reddit
Medvedev's role in the admin is attack dog, he makes the insane "bomb London" statements so the Russian populace sees Putin as the wise, restrained leader. Russian State TV is similarly insane talking about nuclear strikes on London and DC to "teach them a lesson!" It all is approved by the Kremlin, designed to make Putin look measured.
YeetedApple@reddit
Id be more concerned if he wasn't spewing warnings about attacking NATO, I lost count of how many final warnings he's given by now.
ufos1111@reddit
more dead russians? ok lol
Ok_Maximum_5205@reddit
Medvedev is a shit talking hawk. He is deranged. Putin is better unfortunately and i hate Putin.
Visual_Mycologist_1@reddit
Medvedev is Russia's most prolific author of fiction. Don't fall for it. He's a paper tiger sitting on a pile of nukes that won't detonate because they can't be bothered to maintain them. I swear to god his only job is to threaten nuclear war.
sherwood_bosco@reddit
I would wager that 80% of Medvedev's job is to just say the most unhinged and provocative shit to make the present Russian government look like sane centrists by comparison.
PokeyDiesFirst@reddit
There was never any real Russian intention for peace. That's just a way to keep things diplomatically tied up while they continue doing whatever they want. Russian foreign policy is a hard mix of subterfuge, deceit, and mostly blowhardy language that translates well to internal propaganda.
