Who dry shaves their facial stubble because of Predator?

I’m a dark-haired post-menopausal lady whose chin stubble and mustache require near-daily scraping to stay unnoticeable. (The hairs are coarser and there are more of them than ever before. Hate it!) I’ve been dry-shaving my face my entire life because of Mac dry-shaving his face in the jungle in Predator, and I’m dying to know how much of a cultural impact that had. I realized this during the original run of Queer Eye. The boys were so HORRIFIED at how the guests shaved and brutalized their skin, and dry shaving was the worst skincare sin. It made me laugh. Girls in my day were told to scrub our faces with crushed almond shells in apricot goo, it was such a different time! 😅

Don’t bet on that, my mother would have been 95 this year (she passed in 2009) and she loved Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Your mom would have been in her forties when predator came out

My mom loved murder she wrote. She loved football, action movies, a real breadth of entertainment. A couple of her favorites were matlock and walker, Texas ranger. Just saying, she was most likely aware if the movie even if she hadn’t seen it

I'm telling you she didn't. She was the kind of person that if I mentioned Led Zeppelin she would say: "I don't think HE was really around when I was younger" She was always extremely spaced out and seemed like she was born in 1920 despite being born in 1942.

I dry shave because my beard comes in fairly sparse already and the shower softens everything up perfectly fine. I'm more likely to get skin irritation from leftover shaving cream than razor burn.

"Dry Shaving" when I was a young adult was more of a punishment than being cool. I spent about the first 10 years of my adult life in the Army, watching guys get called out for not shaving in a morning formation was both amusing and painful to watch, as the traditional remedy was to dry shave in formation with a crusty old pic disposable razor carried in the 1sgt's pocket, for just such an emergency.

Mac wasn’t dry shaving. He was sweating so much it was acting as lube (for lack of a better term.) And when I do, I slowly say “out there…..past them trees….”

Obligatory not a lady, but I highly recommend a good shave soap and badger hair brush for a nice hot wet shave after a shower. It’s probably the most luxurious personal hygiene routine I have and the vast array of fragrances the soaps come in lets me have more variety in my personal scent profile. I use a traditional safety razor, but mine gives a coarser shave than a multi-blade razor like a Mach 3 or something. Probably wouldn’t recommend that style for a lady unless she’s cool with the 5 o’clock shadow look and it’s kinda hell on my collared shirts.

I’m not sure what you mean by “dry shave” but if you mean “shaves face without any shaving cream or lather”, then that’s me. I stopped using shaving cream once I read an article explaining how it is completely unnecessary. If you rinse your face with hot water before shaving, you don’t really need shaving cream. You should do this while the stubble is rather short though. And make sure the water you use for the pre-rinse is steaming hot. But I have no trouble dry shaving and have done so for over a decade now.

I have dry shaved in the past in a pinch (police academy inspections) and bluntly it sucks. I shaved a few times with hand soap (bar soap) because I was broke and it was all I had. Now... I wear a beard, I keep it trimmed and neat. The parts I don't want fuzzy (cheeks, neck) I clean up once a week to keep the lines sharp and I go full hog. D.R. Harris Shaving Cream (Almond, Lavender or Cedar) mixed and applied with a proper chestnut handled, badger brush and shave with a fresh blade on a 100+ year old bone safety razor that belonged to my great grandfather. Yeah, it's overkill for someone with a beard shaving just to clean up and it's an indulgence that is pretty out of character for me but never again am I going to sandpaper my skin like that. LOL this from an old school punk / metalhead who didn't learn the value of self care until he was nearly 50.

I think that’s wonderful! Take care of yourself! My guy is an old punk/metalhead too. I wondered about the guys, your whiskers and beard hair are thicker and coarser than ours, right? Generally? I’d think dry shaving your entire face would be awful!

The beard hair is pretty thick, thicker than say leg hair but it's not a big deal if you are someone who clean shaves every day because you are just kind of scraping off the top. Shaving off a beard, which I've had to do for PPE training once in a while absolutely sucks. The best you can do is hit it with clippers and get it down as far as possible, soak the hell out of it in hot water for a while (like bath tub time) then go at it with lots of shaving cream and a fresh blade. I've had to shave twice, once with and once against the grain to to be sure I'd pass an inspection the next morning.
