does anybody see this realistically getting any better after its been this BAD - like it has in the past i.e 2008 crash/911 (relative to the economy) or is this a completely new ballgame which we are unprepared for?

relative to the economy and the current state of the uk. i find it hard to see any avenue of recovery especially given the emergence of AI/automation, the grad job/job crisis, disability crisis, energy/cost of living crisis, nhs about to collapse, prisons/justice system collapsing, mental health crisis (especially in young people), councils going bankrupt, cultural tensions, issues w the boats/migrants, the rich are leaving (and alot more)
even this climate shock stuff
i mean they say we are living through history, how will the future look back at this, will they say how we fixed all those problems and if so how? i hate to be a pessimist but there is a giant wall of undeniable proof that the sink is shipping without any real resolution. are we all blinded to keep living day-to-day without real contigency plans if something reminiscent to the great depression happens?
i fear people forget that there has been times in human history where we have actually regressed i.e dark ages - while we'd supposedly believe we live in a progressive world with AI and the improvement on technologies (i.e the positive impact it will have on streamlining things like healthcare) isnt whats infront of us showing that all this is heavily outweighed by our issues. i mean the only thing that we really learn from history is that we dont learn from history.
tldr; why isnt everybody panicking as it seems like a no brainer that we should be?

Our generation will eventually become today's "boomers", I reckon. Our children and grandchildren will be turbo screwed, they will come on sites like reddit and "Remember a time when you could buy a house for £300k m8"

Don’t forget the UK had to be bailed out by the IMF in 1976, Germany and the US having to increase their contributions so the IMF could afford to
Amazingly the bail-out was just $3.9bn, how times change
So, I don’t think another bail-out is on the horizon, but there’s going to be some painful truths about the level of taxation and the services it pays for.

You might well have said the same after World War 2, yet things did get better, albeit slowly. The UK has lots of clever and innovative people, don't underestimate their ability to create the conditions for the next crisis.

very valid thought process one would presume that the issues/problems that had after ww2 were alot more significant than what we have now, i think its that disease of the human mind recalibrating. i guess you can say humanity has gotten through all its bad times in the past to make it to now too

We're still living through the 2008 crash. That did far more damage in terms of (government) debt than COVID.
Equally debt to GDP has gone up from 35% to 100% in the last 20-ish years. It was 250% after WW2 and we got out of that.

Because "the economy" is this remote, abstract entity that primarily exists in the form of media headlines intended to generate panic and sell papers (or nowadays, clicks).
Sometimes more people will be struggling, sometimes fewer. But the day to day life of the average person doesn't change that much. Even in situations far more dire than anyone too young to remember them can imagine (WWII comes to mind), life goes on.
And more importantly, there is no realistic way for that ordinary person to have any influence on the big picture. The best thing they - i.e. you - can do is ensure you're doing everything you can to secure your own plans and goals.

Nobody’s panicking because we’re gonna die eventually, just do your best and have fun while you’re here!
I got chatting to a bloke in his 80s at the grand national a few years ago. We were both bladdered and mainly chatting nonsense, but the one thing I remember him saying was “you get one bite of the cherry, once you’re gone, you’re gone”.
Do with that what you will, I’m off to make a cuppa.
