Skywarden, i will never call it a Skyraider
NoGiCollarChoke@reddit
Yeah the whole “[Old Plane Name] II” is lame as hell, but this one is the worst. Skywarden or Longsword were way better names.
Appropriate-Count-64@reddit
Lightning II for the F-35 was also a bit wacky. It’s not even a twin engine design, so wouldn’t like Thunderbolt II or something have been better?
AnotherNitG@reddit
The A-10 is the official thunderbolt II, but like the F35 no one uses its government name
Appropriate-Count-64@reddit
I completely forgot about that lmao.
The_Ace_Trace_2@reddit
Thunderbolt II is the A-10
Freddan_81@reddit
The A-10 is the Thunderbolt II.

The gubm't can't trust the chem trail ops to the civilian airliners anymore, this is the solution.

When you need tactical glider towing and crops dustings

That is also my local airport, they have some cool planes parked there every now and then

OA-1K Skyraider II https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L3Harris_OA-1K_Skyraider_II
monkeyman103@reddit
It’s a badass looking plane. Is this the crop duster militerizred guy?
agha0013@reddit
AT-802 is the baseline cropduster. OA-1K is what it becomes after the militarization package.
marksman1023@reddit
Yup.
kid_entropy@reddit
It's just in time for the last war!
marksman1023@reddit
Last war? You didn't believe them when they said GWOT was over, did you?
In all seriousness, there will never be any shortage of brush fires where we send small teams of dudes and dudettes to settle business, and these would be useful for that. There's a reason that it's SOCOM that's acquiring these.
ZZ9ZA@reddit
It’s a saying. Generals are always preparing to fight the last war. As in the last one they fought and the tactics use, not the current situation.
Like building this thing instead of just using drones
marksman1023@reddit
Oh, I'm familiar. There are limits to what drones can accomplish, don't let the Drone Rangers tell you different.
Tactics developed in the Middle East will still be effective in similar counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism fights. They're not going away, much as we'd like them to, and I wish there was greater awareness of that.
awad190@reddit
Check the Archangel by IOMAX, that's a newer version of this concept, 10 years old new.
Shawn_Wolf27@reddit
The Skyraider, aka we took a crop duster and strapped a bunch of tech and guns to it 🤣

How is the cockpit so far back on the body? What keeps it from flying more nose-down

Interestingly it no longer appears to carry an external registration. OP, don’t suppose you managed any more images of it?
BernoullisGhost@reddit
That looks a lot like Max Westheimer Airport.
cnollz@reddit
Hi KOUN 👋 their call sign sounds like “hobo” but I think it’s lobo, not sure. They do 2/3 laps at KRQO in as much time it takes a new student to do one. Very fun to watch!
ISandbagAtMarioKart@reddit
I was about to say, I haven’t lived in Norman in 12 years but saw that Embassy Suites in the background and immediately knew it was Max Westheimer
JP5-LIFE@reddit
By reading these comments I guess I’m the only one who thinks that plane is hideous lmao
YoBigB@reddit
No, my internet compadre. You are not alone. This shit looks like it came from Temu. You can't be serious and tell me with a straight face that the A-10 is obsolete and this is the best we could do.
exploringtheworld797@reddit
The A-10 replacement hahahaha.
Mad_kat4@reddit
Imagine a GAU-8 mounted to this.... Brrrrrrrrt and flying backwards we go. 😁

Pilots would rather have an ejection seat.
MadjLuftwaffe@reddit
Can someone explain why this is better than investing in drones, what are the benefits of this over smaller, cheaper and more expendable drones.
Silent-Wonder6546@reddit
I just can't take it seriously, a Tucano wouldve been cooler

The coolest aircraft ever produced
StockholmParkk@reddit
its an OA-1K skyraider, its basically a military crop duster.
AsanineTrip@reddit
Who would have thought that a militarized crop duster would look so fucking cool?! What's the propsed use for these bad boys besides looking SICK?
Majakowski@reddit
Killing farmers, journalists and wedding guests. The export-version can also kill union leaders.

Manned Close Air Support for sneaky special forces dudes in permissive skies.
Think the Middle East or Africa where there's not an opposing air force or really any air defenses to speak of beyond small arms and maybe a shoulder-fired missile.
It's a bomb and rocket truck with a tiny fraction of the operating costs of an F-15E Strike Eagle, with the bonus of being dirt simple to maintain and having the ability to operate from grass fields or small improved runways.
And yes, it's fricking cool!
