Is the water we’re drinking OK?

Hey, yep very concerned about the water my family and I are drinking. I’m in the Fylde Coast and like to stay hydrated, but the water hasn’t tasted right recently. Maybe I’m overly conscious, but I didn’t have a problem last couple years.
And I definitely don’t trust United Utilities.
On the top of my glasses of water I’ve found an oil spill type of look. Please find the pictured attached. It tastes bad. Not sure what to do, because I don’t like using single use plastic.
As a normal human in a “developed” country, what am I supposed to do? I have a child here and I don’t trust this water with them.
People are swimming in the sea this summer and we all know that it’s been deemed unsafe because United Utilities be pumping literal shit into the sea. Sad to see people in there.
E. Coli.
Anyway yeah let’s talk about the water quality on the Fylde coast.

Also on the fylde coast and wouldn't drink the water if you paid me. Buying bottled water isn't cheap but tapwater tastes absolutely awful here.
P/S picture not attached. :D

Why not? I'm in Cleveleys it's perfectly clean. The UK in general has some of the best drinkable tap water in the world. I'll never understand why people think otherwise?

Been on the fylde coast my whole life. The water is perfectly drinkable. The oil you speak of is lost likely from a dirty glass your using. You should trust united utilities at least in the sense of drinkable water. Remember all united utilities employees use this water too. You can enter your postcode here and see regular updates on the quality of the water. https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/your-water-supply/your-water/water-quality/
You can also use this website to see the quality of the bathing water in your area. Whilst I wouldn't swim on the fylde coast it's not quite as bad as people make out alot of the time. When we have long periods of sun algae can grow making bathing unsafe. Likewise too much rain and we get sewage overspill. How ever we do see periods of weather that allow for optimal bathing conditions. Educate yourself and put abit of trust in water companies. Nobodies out to purposefully harm you or your family. https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/

Have you read through https://www.unitedutilities.com/help-and-support/your-water-supply/your-water/water-quality/ and also have you contacted them?

The regulation on tap water is much stricter than on springs. If your water is falling sort of that, the water company would be in serious trouble. Have you had your pipes and drains checked?
VOODOO285@reddit
UK tap water is ridiculously clean from the tap unless there’s some major contamination.
What springs to mind is detergent in your glass still.
Might be worth investing in an inline water filter. Very cheap for what they do, last years with minimal maintenance.

Is that your name?

I have no idea about your area, but…
1) There’s no picture.
2) Are you sure your glasses and/or tap is clean?
3) You just randomly wrote E.Coli between the second to last and last sentence. ??

Report this to your local authority in charge of your water. Mean time use a filter or buy water.

No idea about your location, but potable water in the UK is regulated to very high standards.
The stuff from the tap should be better than bottled water from a shop.
Call them. Ask.

If you're seeing oil on top of a glass of water my first thought is the glass wasn't quite clean.
