Help with ADATA SSD Legend 900 2TB Event Viewer error 129 - source: stornmve "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued". The computer freezes for a few seconds at times.

Hi, I built a new computer:
- SSD: ADATA legend 900 2TB
- Motherboard: ASRock 850M Pro-A
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X3D
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 5060 Windforce 8 Gb
- RAM: DDR-5 2x16 GB 6000 MHz Patriot VIPER Venom CL30
- Power supply: Chieftec A-90 GDP-750C
- OS: Windows 11 Pro
And unfortunately the computer freezes completely for 2 seconds and then continues to work. This happens 1-4 times a day and can happen at literally any time even when idling. Accompanied by this event in the event viewer:
129 - source: stornmve "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued".
ADATA SSD ToolBox and CrystalDiskInfo find no errors and show "Good 100%" status. Temperature is normal.
Here's what I've already tried:
- сhanging the power plan settings to high performance (turn off hard drive: 0 and the PCIe power management to "off"),
- updated the BIOS,
- updated the chipset driver,
- made sure the latest SSD firmware was installed,
- made sure AHCI mode was set in the BIOS,
- made sure there was a "Standard NVM Express Controller" in the Device Manager,
- disabled virtual memory,
- disabled the EXPO profile of the RAM,
- disabled HMB (host memory buffer),
- completely formatted the disk and reinstalled Windows 11,
- moved the SSD to another slot,
- optimizing via ADATA SSD ToolBox.

Same issue here, but it started this month the last two months, not sure. How long been you struggling with this? Maybe is a Windows update issue? I don't know. But it's weird and I am getting sick of this.
I have a B550m, R7 5700X & RTX 4070.

I noticed this right after assembling a new computer. I assembled it two weeks ago.

Do you think you could try installing Windows 11 23H2? Or well, at least not use the last version of the system. I found some information about Win 11 24H2 being the problem, but I am not sure, I cannot perform rollback right now. But, if your pc is new, maybe is easier for you?
reylek@reddit (OP)
I have already given up, because nothing helps. Most likely, this is a hardware problem. Therefore, I handed the SSD to the service center to confirm the problem and return the money. Now we must hope that they will be able to catch the error, which has a random nature of occurrence.
I have not tried to install Windows 11 23H2, but most likely the problem is not this (disabling HMB (host memory buffer) would solve the problem).
I will write the diagnostic results of the store's service center here. They check for 10 days.
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Apparently, I fixed it, I uninstalled the last 24H2 acumulative update, I don't have the code now, but yeah, I've been playing without the issue since that. (6 hours since I did it aprox).
reylek@reddit (OP)
О.о write if the problem returns
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Nothing, I think is worth the try. So, try to uninstall the last Windows update. Or try with 23H2.
Time-Ad6576@reddit
So is it still cool even now? Do i just need to rollback the windows? Although i got raid1 not 2
RaulMARK17_@reddit
The number depends of the physical port you're using. It doesn't matter, I already tried switching the SSD in my two M2 slots and got the same issue. And, the update, I am not really sure, I never went back to 23H2 because I have many files. I sent the disk to warranty, and got a new one, a predator ssd with DRAM. When I get news from support, I will tell you.
Time-Ad6576@reddit
Oh you warranty the disk? Does this mean the problem return even after you uninstall the 24h2 windows update? I just rollback my windows to 23h2 hopefully this solve the problem. If not i'll also warranty the disk XD
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Yeah, it still happened. But, I am not sure why. I mean, I contactes Microsoft, so they make me reinstall and also update the OS. According to the guy that helped me, the update I unistalled wouldn't be installed again, but, I am not sure about that, if it really stayed uninstalled or not.
I mean, I didn't have the time to really confirm if it was a coincidence/luck that I didn't have the issue or if it really dissapeared. So, when you have time, tell me about your results, if it works or not. Because right now I'm a bit concerned about the warranty, if they don't find the same issue, they will return the disk and charge me 10 bucks. Which is something that I could save if I just haven't sent the disk.
Time-Ad6576@reddit
So far i dont get any stornmve raidport1 event in the event viewer anymore. I played for approximately 4 hoursish. There is 1 time when my game is not responding but i dont think this one is related to the raidport event. Ill write again if the problem appear again but hopefully its gone for good.
Btw did you contact microsoft after it happened again or before? Cause you said you reinstall and update os. And maybe thats why it come back?
RaulMARK17_@reddit
No, I didn't. I was fed up with testing. So I just bought another one and sent this to warranty xD. Maybe it is Microsoft fault, I wouldn't be surprised. But I cannot downgrade my os without having some issues and I don't want it xD. So, let's see. And good luck, I hope it is gone for you.

Diagnostics at the service center found no errors. This is not surprising, because they simply ran it through CrystalDiskInfo and checked it with a load for 2 hours (and I waited 12 days for this). So I bought a new SSD from Samsung for Windows, and I use this SSD as an additional disk (a couple of games are installed on it). So far, no errors for 4 days.
Time-Ad6576@reddit
I come here after encountering the same problem. Did the problem come back after you change ssd? And how's the ssd performing now that you use it for additional storage any side effect?
reylek@reddit (OP)
After purchasing a new SSD, the problem did not appear. The ADATA SSD is an additional one and is filled to 11%, there are no problems, no side effects either.
RaulMARK17_@reddit
But, yes, if you can change the SSD or something maybe is something good too. But I think is something related to the model not your disk specifically.
reylek@reddit (OP)
Perhaps your update installation coincided with another event - filling the disk to a certain level, from which this error began to appear.
My personal observation: the issue starts occurring when the SSD reaches a certain level of disk fill.
After reinstalling Windows, there were no errors on the first day. On the second day, the error appeared again after some of the SSD space had been used.
Also, in a post describing a similar issue with the Kingston SNV2S2000G 2TB, it's mentioned that formatting temporarily fixes the problem — most likely until the same level of disk fill is reached again.
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Sorry, didn't see before. But, yeah, that's recently, not sure if is a hardware specific issue or is windows fault.
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Possible fix:
Open Registry Editor: Press
Win + R
, typeregedit
, and press Enter.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorPort
HmbAllocationPolicy
.New > DWORD (32-bit) Value
, and name itHmbAllocationPolicy
.HmbAllocationPolicy
and set its "Value data" to0
(zero). This will disable HMB entirely.2
for 64MB, but0
(off) is more likely to resolve the stability issue if HMB is the root cause, though it might incur a slight performance penalty (which is usually negligible for most users compared to freezes).reylek@reddit (OP)
I tried this, it didn't help...
RaulMARK17_@reddit
Yeah, it just got freeze again. But you didn't answer my question, when this started to happen?
reylek@reddit (OP)
I see you've already found the answer below) It doesn't help with 0 either.
YamRevolutionary9870@reddit
I'm using same nvme adata legend 900 2tb, it cause error 129 did almost everything you did other than reinstall, it will cause like system freeze 20-30sec when that happened
My spec: - CPU: Ryzen 7 5700x3d - GPU: Rtx 5070 inno3d - Mobo: MSI B550M A Pro - RAM: DDR4 Team Delta T Force 3200mhz (2x16GB) - PSU: Corsair RM650e (2025) - OS: Win 11 Pro
I just order nvme with actual DRAM on it (Sn850x 2TB) and waiting it to arrive, will check if issue persist or not. Will be back next week to update this comment
Time-Ad6576@reddit
So it is a problem for adata legend 900 2 tb. Cause i got that specific ssd too and it also does that
YamRevolutionary9870@reddit
looks like that, since we manage to find this thread. gonna make final verdict once I got my new nvme and tested it for a week. it's getting annoying causing my pc freeze at least once daily or twice, but once it do that it won't happened again until your next session
Time-Ad6576@reddit
Mine kinda keep freezing randomly sometimes multiple times in a short time. So im gonna try the above solution which is downgrading my windows hopefully that fix it. If not well new ssd or warranty it is.
reylek@reddit (OP)
How full was the SSD when the problem started? Is the SSD partitioned?
I just have a theory that it has something to do with filling up the SSD.
Before buying a new SSD, there were no errors or freezes during formatting in the first days. Perhaps there are no errors now because it is not filled to a certain level.
YamRevolutionary9870@reddit
I was thinking the same after >500GB it start doing that, when I use it for 2 weeks there was no problem, once I start download more and more game into it, then the problem started.
I don't use partition, os and game file in same place
reylek@reddit (OP)
Yes, the limit is somewhere there. Now this SSD is installed as an additional one and is filled to 215 GB, no problems yet.
Time-Ad6576@reddit
Hmm mine is definitely filled > 500 gb so i guess thats that. And i assume no luck even with warranty? Or you just go buy a new one straight?
reylek@reddit (OP)
The problem remained after rolling back Windows to version 23h2?
I handed it over to my service center with a description of the problem and the steps taken, because it is difficult to reproduce the error. But they checked it using a template, in the end I just lost 12 days. They are just very busy and do not want to delve into the details of the problem.
Service centers are different, maybe you will be lucky. If I handed it over again, I would strictly write the only step to reproduce the error: fill the disk > 500 GB as the main OS disk (as an additional one - not yet checked) and just wait for the error to appear in the log in the log regardless of the idle / use mode.. I had the opportunity to return the SSD to the store up to 14 days from the date of purchase (the radiator should not be used), but I contacted on the 15th day xD
Time-Ad6576@reddit
XD dang thats really close. Well i just rollback my windows really late at night so i havent gotten the chance to try. Hopefully the freeze is gone and everything is back to normal. Ill write the update once i test and use it for longer time
Time-Ad6576@reddit
I did partition it into 2 parts. But its not exactly what i would call filled because i still got over 1 tb empty space
reylek@reddit (OP)
I also used two partitions, the problem supposedly appeared when the SSD was filled to 300-500 GB in total.
Cer_Visia@reddit
This looks like a hardware problem (so software/configuration changes will not help).
If the same SSD has these problems in different slots, then it's likely to be the SSD itself.
