Eminem and Dido in London.. Back in the day.

What seems to have gone over some people's head is that I was using the phrase ironically. I didn't mean it as a social commentary, more making fun of the way people use that phrase. Certainly not trying to feed into generational divide.

I guess today you learned sarcasm doesn't translate through text.
That was not sarcasm.

Well , that was in 2000, so......
Cell phone cameras weren't even a thing yet.

I'm pretty tired of people bitching about phones. It's just modern reality, get over it.

That’s because this “No phones” stuff is all bait to get people to crap on younger generations. There are 100,000 posts a day like this on Facebook. Your original point is spot on… there were hardly any phones back then and the ones that did exist didn’t have cameras. If we had them, we’d have been using them just like younger people do today. And very few people—old or young—are actually willing to give them up. So posts like this definitely make me roll my eyes.

Ok boomer.

No insulting other generations or making unnecessary complaints/rants.

I'm guessing you just learned of this expression and couldn't wait to use it.
ReservedPickup12@reddit
Nope. Just watching my generation turn into their whiny ass parents. The phrase seemed to fit the situation.

I hate cell phones at concerts. No one can just enjoy music anymore.
welshpudding@reddit
Went to a local string quartet performance. They were playing studio ghibili music in candle light at an old church. So a small venue and easier to control.
They requested that no one pull their phones out until they announced they could during the last few songs. It was so much more immersive and easier to be present when you are not staring into everyone’s black mirrors reflecting the performers instead of the performers themselves.
Wish I could be a cultural behaviour globally that no one takes pictures or videos until the end.

Yes, they aren't there to enjoy the music, they're there to be seen being there
