Next movie to show my kid

This summer, my 6 year old has watched Pee Wes’s Big Adventure, Goonies, and E.T. He loved them all and nothing could make me more proud. What should I show him next?

My 6 year old nephew watched Ace Ventura and loved it

If Sloth from Goonies didn't scare him then maybe "Raiders of the Lost Ark" for a good adventure.
Informal_Arugula_125@reddit (OP)
I was worried about Sloth, but he laughed so hard the first time he showed up. Not sure what to think about that.
Burningbeard696@reddit
Our generation really need to stop trying to force our youth onto our kids. Let them come to things naturally and discover their own stuff.
Informal_Arugula_125@reddit (OP)
Bah. These movies were so good though! And many of them can be watched in less than 2 hours which can’t often be said for today’s flicks.
i_am_ellis_parker@reddit
I would suggest Labyrinth. Kid getting kidnapped at night by the Goblin King might scare them a bit. Home Alone Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Honey I Shrunk The Kids Hook Addams Family
Informal_Arugula_125@reddit (OP)
Labyrinth was a favorite of mine as a kid. I need to add it to the list for my kid.

Ghostbusters
Necessary_Total6082@reddit
Spaceballs is good for that age. And since we're finally getting Space Balls 2, The Search for More Money." In hopefully 2026 he won't have to wait as long as we have.
Informal_Arugula_125@reddit (OP)
Space Balls is definitely on our list. Showed him the preview the other day and he thought it looked great!
Christie318@reddit
My niece LOVED Ghostbusters!
Peanut083@reddit
I bought the complete box set of the original TMNT series to show my kids when they were younger. They loved it, and I enjoyed going back and watching episodes I’d either missed or forgotten about.
I also bought the DVD set of the original Pokémon series to show my kids, but I really only watched the show as a teenager because my brother is 8 years younger than me, and he used to watch it.

I could go on all day, but I figured it was a solid start.
Spiritual_Sorbet_870@reddit
Though depending on your kids fear tolerance, Princess Bride might be too much for six. I saw it around then and was terrified 😂
ComeGetYourOzymans@reddit
My kid uses everything and anything as a sword, so when he was doing so at 4yo some Saturday morning, I said: want to see a clip of one of my favorite movies? And showed him the fight between Inigo and Westley. He was immediately hooked and we’ve watched it together a few dozen times. I do have to FF thru the fire swamp and pit of despair scenes tho.
Spiritual_Sorbet_870@reddit
I love that - it’s such a good movie! And what a great intro to it!
Yes those scenes, the screaming eels, and rodents of unusual size really stayed with me for while. But as a full adult I still have no fear tolerance, so definitely a YMMV situation.
Mantzy81@reddit
Pass that quicksand fear through the generations

Big trouble in little china for the win.
Necessary_Total6082@reddit
Introduce him to reading The Neverending Story and The Princess Bride first! Imho, neither can truly be appreciated (Along with The Last Unicorn.) without reading the books first, and if you haven't read the books, what a great bonding time together making a chapter a night reading to your child part of the bedtime routine.

Return to Oz (1985) is a good starter scary movie. It’s Disney. On Disney plus. Like if they could handle Large Marg from PeeWees Big Adventure. The Wheelers and Mimby’s room of mirrors and heads shouldn’t be too bad. I know tons of us watched it around that age.
The Dark Crystal (1982) another semi scary/intense one. But it’s Jim Henson and all Puppets. Super Classic. If you can find the Behind The Scenes PBS documentary about how it’s made and all the puppet work. It’s definitely worth it. And helped me as a kid to see it as just make believe.
