When were your grandparents born?

Hey fellow Xennials!
Just wondering when your grandparents were born.
On my dad's side, my grandfather was born in 1912 and my grandmother in 1916. On my mom's side, my grandfather was born in 1888 and my grandmother in 1910 (she was his second wife, hence the age difference).
What about you? My apologies if this seems like a bit of an intrusive question.
Thanks!
Shot_Construction455@reddit
Paternal grandparents were 1926 & 1928. Maternal grandparents were 1932 & 1938

My paternal grandfather was born in 1898, my grandmother 1918. She was his second wife after his first one passed away.

OP, i’m curious about your parents ages, your grandparents seem 10-20 years older than most of us here
my dad was 40 when i was born and his parents were born in 1915 and 1919
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
Op seems to have one outlier grandparent the rest are in line with your grandparents birth years.
Face88888888@reddit
I’m the outlier on the other end. Xennial with gen x parents and boomer grandparents. But hey, I broke the cycle of teen pregnancies in my family!
dee-liv@reddit
I was a teen pregnancy but my parents were the on the younger end of their siblings.

My dad was born in 1947, but he was the youngest of eight kids. His parents started having children in the 1920s.
Jomosian@reddit
Im also from 1981 and my dad is also from 1947.
thingmom@reddit
My youngest sister is a Xennial (I’m genX and this showed up in my feed) and these dates are in line with our grandparents. (In fact OP are you my sister?!??!) She was a late in life baby, our mom was the youngest of her family and our dad was born late in life to his parents.
IllustriousDoggo1855@reddit
My mom's parents were born in the 1920s, mom was born in 1944 and was 35 when I was born. Dad's parents were born around 1900, dad in 1939 and he was 40 when I was born.
1_art_please@reddit
I have a situation like this.
My grandpa was born in 1894 and my dad was the baby in the family, born in 1937. He had me late for the time, in 1979 and my sister in 1987. Grandpa lived a long life, passing away with no illnesses or physical issues in 1989.
All my cousins were sooooo much older growing up. Like in their late 20s and 30s when I was born. And with my mom, dad and sister we are each from a different generation. Dad is silent generation, mom is a boomer, I am the tail end of Gen X and sister a millennial.
balding_git@reddit
haha same here. dads silent gen, moms a boomer, siblings are genx and then i came along heh
LittleLarryY@reddit
I’m close to this spread too. All my grandparents lived to 90+. So while born late I got some extra time.
Old_Association6332@reddit
Same. My grandparents had my mother and father late, and then my mother and father had me late. I was lucky that all except one lived into their 90s so, despite the relatively wide gulf between our ages, I got to know all except the one who died in his 80s (my paternal grandfather) very well.
Istobri@reddit (OP)
Same here. Maternal grandmother lived to 92, paternal grandfather to 94.
toasterb@reddit
I’m 44 and not far off of OP on one side — 1909 and 1905 — the other side is 1926 and 1928.
My mom’s family started late because of the depression, and then she was the 7th kid. So her parents were older than most for that era.
Istobri@reddit (OP)
Yeah my parents had me late. Dad was 42, Mom was 38.
balding_git@reddit
lol i remember being so embarrassed of my poor old dad picking me up from school, all the other kids had like 20 something dads.. with hair!
poppedcorn-10@reddit
My grandparents were born in 1904 and 1908, my parents were 36 and 42 when I was born.
omelatk@reddit
Same and both 1919
dee-liv@reddit
On my mom’s side, both were 1935. On my dad’s side, 1924 and 1926. So they were in the silent generation, my parents are on the cusp of boomer/genx.
Anna4603285260@reddit
1891 and 1892 my grandparents were in their 40s when they had my father and my father was in his 40s when he had me.

My mom's mom was 1906, too. Amazing.
lilacsmakemesneeze@reddit
Dang. So she was 15 and he was 34?
NW_Forester@reddit
Yep.
Unclear if Grandpa knew. Grandma had lymphedema which resulted in her having huge leg that she was super conscious about. Her father and brothers beat her and while she never said it we expect sexually abused her just based on a lot of the different baggage she had. Grandpa was the first man to treat her decently. He died of a kidney stone and complications from passing that in the mid 1960s.
lilacsmakemesneeze@reddit
I’m so glad she was able to escape that life to be with your grandfather.. the amount of sexual abuse/incest there used to be is astounding.

lanakickstail@reddit
I had older grandparents as well—my mom’s parents were around 40 and 30 respectively when they married and born in 1909 and 1917 I think (definitely 1909 for grandpa). My dad’s parents were young when they had him; grandpa born in 1918 and grandma that raised him (not birth mother) in 1923. My dad was born in 1940 and my mom 1949. My dad was 41 when I was born, and I was the youngest of his 4 kids (first born from his first wife is 20 years older than me). My grandparents were all at least mid 60s when I was born in 1982, with my maternal grandpa as the oldest in his 70s.

I am having a bit of a weird look here! So many grandparents were born when my great grandparents were! My parents were born the same year 1961.
AdelleDeWitt@reddit
Looking at the dates here, my grandparents were the oldest ones here; they were born in 1890s through 1910. If they had asked but great grandparents it would have been even more of a difference between me and everyone else I think because most of my grandparents were the youngest of 14 kids so my great-grandparents were born just forever ago. I come from a long line of people who are born when their parents were in their 40s to 50s!
Then_Increase7445@reddit
Just barely beat me, one of my grandmas was born in 1940. One of my great-grandpas was born in 1913 and died when i was 28!

crazycatlady331@reddit
My great grandmother (Frances) had the best nickname. Granny Franny.
MI6Monkey@reddit
My great-grandma (dad's paternal grandmother), would've been Granny Fanny. My mom loved that woman and would have named me after her in anyway she could. But her name, legally, I have the documents, was Fanny Gay (last name here). I was born in the late 70s there is no way my 26yr old mom was naming me any version of that.
MI6Monkey@reddit
MawMaw is a pretty traditional Southern/Appalachian grandma name. They were differentiated by last name, not first name, because RESPECT. Both of my grandfathers passed before I was born, so PawPaw is the standard grandpa name here, but my dad's dad had the nickname of Popeye (he had sort of bug-out eyes), so when I think of him, that is the name I give him.

A few weeks ago, one of my Millennial coworkers said her grandfather died. She said he was "so old." She said he was 80. My maternal grandfather (papa) was born in 1926, maternal grandmother 1933, paternal grandfather 1935, paternal grandmother 1936. My papa had his father co sign so he could join the RCAF at 17 and spend the war working as a Batman (aide I believe) at bomber command in England. The rest were far too young for that. My parents were both born in 1960 and had me when they were nearly 21 in 1981.
My family seems to make new generations quickly. I remember 6 of my great-grandparents and my daughter even met one when she was a baby.

I’m 47 (1978) and my mom was born in 1945. Her mom was born in 1905. Her dad was about a year older. They had their first child (my oldest aunt) at 38.
My dad was born in 1943 and was adopted, but his adoptive parents were born around 1903 or 1905 (they were both around 40 when they adopted him.)
I realize I’m older than a lot of people in this sub, but still, my grandparents were pretty old, considering they didn’t have kids until their very late 30s or early 40s. I myself didn’t have my first and only child until I was almost 41.

The one side had kids in their early 20s (dad’s side, grandpa was injured at basic for WWII and came home and did college instead and had kids right out of college). The other side (mom’s side) waited until their mid 30s. But my dad is 2 years older than my mom. And has an older brother.

From my dad’s side we don’t know. My grandmother was abandoned as a baby and had no birth certificate and no idea of who her parents were. All I know about my paternal grandfather is that he was the son of the owner of the factory where grandma worked, he knocked her up and was promptly shipped back to the motherland (Spain) to be never seen again.

No, we never truly knew the year my grandmother was born. Best guesses were 1922, but the one doctor in the little itty, bitty town of Live Oak, Louisiana suffered a fire at his office and lost everyone's birth certificates.
Sure, we could've gone by when Grandma graduated HS, but school years then were dictated by strawberry picking season (they stopped school so that kids could help harvest) and because the records at the school were also shoddy (i think the wild boars got into the office or something), grandma had to repeat at least one school year. Also, they only went to school for 11 years, so...
