Do you know anyone who disappeared? What happened?

I’ve got a cousin who’s about 10 years older than me. She was always a little bit odd and had some mental health issues, but never could be diagnosed with anything concrete. She was in her early 30’s but never could hold down a real job. Luckily she had just got a flat through the council and they had her in a few work programs. One day she had completely disappeared. She was a no show at her job and nothing out of the ordinary was found at her flat. My aunt and uncle spent ages going around to everyone they/she knew as well as opening up a missing persons file with the police. About 6 months later a few people mentioned that they had seen someone who looks like her living rough around the city. My aunt finally tracked her to a homeless shelter. She tried to get her back to her flat or their house, but she said she was perfectly happy living on the streets. She disappeared again for several more months and then my aunt was the contacted saying that she had been sectioned and was in a local hospital. After a few years of being in and out of some institutions, she finally moved back to her flat and was seemingly doing well. After a random Dr’s appointment, it was discovered that she had a massive inoperable tumour on her brain. They reckoned it had been there for years and probably was the cause of so many of her life choices. Bizarrely they gave her about 6 months to live after finding it. This was nearly 4 years ago, but she’s still plodding on.
