I have never seen this before. Anybody know why they would be flying the pattern in a 737?

If I’m rich enough to buy a BBJ one day, my off time hobby would totally be doing laps at my local airport…

If you're rich enough to own ANY private jet then your home airport isn't Gary

Don't ever stop in Gary

I grew up in Michigan City. I’ve stopped in Gary, plenty of times. Don’t believe all the hype about Scary Gary.
When I was working on my PPL a few years ago, I flew KVPZ-KMGC-KGYY-KVPZ. At KGYY, 8800’ runway, cleared for the option 8 miles out.

Maybe the FBO gives free pizza with purchase of 20k pounds or more of gas.

When I was still a student pilot, I was doing pattern work practicing landings one evening. There was a pretty big jet that was also doing patterns at the same time as me at the same airport (UGN). I did 3 laps in my 172 for every one of theirs.

Tbh same, that would be awesome

Boeing corporate is there.

I got to go there once and take a look around. It’s a whole new kind of crazy when they talk about how many bed and baths it has.

Thank you! That makes sense

test after a check
ConversationNearby30@reddit
No, this is very likely base training. New hires with low hours need to perform (in Europe at least 6) landings on the actual aircraft before getting released for line training with actual paying customers on board.
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
We don’t do that in the US.
ConversationNearby30@reddit
Maybe a European airline doing these landings in the US to save costs? This does not look like any technical test flight, but very much like base training.
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
So they’re going to fly to the US to do what they could do in Europe? In Gary, Indiana?
No.
ConversationNearby30@reddit
If the aircraft is already there at the moment, it might be cheaper to buy a few economy tickets for trainers/trainees than flying the aircraft over the pond back to Europe just for a few touch and goes.
But I am just a line pig with no idea of training costs and training, who am I
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
Absolutely no reason to fly pilots from Europe out to Gary, Indiana lol
ConversationNearby30@reddit
Alright. So what were they doing then?
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
Go ahead and call them up and ask. Make sure to let us know what they say: 1-800-867-5309
ConversationNearby30@reddit
Called them. Well.. it was base training

What time was this? Potentially night currency takeoffs and landings.
PostVertigo@reddit
Practicing touch and go’s in the traffic pattern. 😅😅
al_andaluz@reddit
That’s an ATP pattern

I guess it was too hard to book sim time for currency.

The man’s just keeping in practice.
