Top is the original. The original release had far more stylistic shadowing and hard edges, partly cause at the time it was a common way to make graphics look more gritty/realistic without having high visual fidelity.
On top of all that look at the faces. The top has some nuance and expression but the bottom just looks like badass bros. It's weird that the remake looks less expressive lol
Oh what the fuck. I assumed the bottom was the original and top was remastered and was about to say something like "oh well guys, it's not a massive upgrade but at least you can tell they spent some time on improving it". Wtf do you mean the remaster is the shittier one?
it's because game companies decided to brainwash gamers into thinking realism > stylization in an attempt to bloat file sizes with detailed "realistic" graphics in order to make pirating games harder/more demanding on the device
The pistol (magnum) in halo 1 was pretty broken. Super high damage and accuracy, 1 shot headshots, but it also had a scope and was basically a mini sniper at the same time. Basically no downsides. It was heavily nerfed in halo 2, basically turned into a sidearm (crazy for a pistol I know) and some people have been salty about it for two decades.
Fr, I think we’re too the point where we can stop focusing on making graphics better and require more expensive hardware to run, and start focusing on making games run better, please for the love of god, the last thing we want is to feel like we can’t even run new games because we don’t have a 6090-Super-TI-ultra-fart-tracing-DSLL7.0 graphics card
FR. I hate how most AAA studios nowadays always use unreal engine and refuse to do any optimzation so you need 100 gb of desk space and a 2000$ PC to play a mediocre game that looks like every other AAA game.
I wish it were just the transition, but I've had freezes during his first phase too. Hell, a bit earlier I even had it freeze during DarkDrift's phase transition
Nah dont get me wrong, im here for the slop i watched every single Uma Musime anime out there xD. Im just wondering why its everywhere these past few days
The EN release was rather recent, and people have been absolutely falling in love with Haru and Agnes as of last week (would've been say 1 had there not been so many people resetting their accounts for SSR supports the first week)
I fucking love how Clair Obscur looks, sounds and plays better than 90% of modern AAA games and uses up like a third of space that they do(the whole game is 55 GB) while also being playable on mid-tier PC’s. It’s such a breath of fresh air ngl
I'm convinced the decision that realism is the absolute goal of games' graphics is just a way to artificially pad budgets for money laundering and embezzlement purposes, while also then allowing the company to charge more.
Play Assassin's Creed 1. It could be made today with a lower budget, looking better. Because the technology has streamlined it all. But if they did make it today, you can bet it would cost them 10x the amount.
Whats your thoughts on rdr2, which is the best example for this type game, selling 70million copies? And also what will your reaction be when gta 6, a game that will absolutely hammer on ultra realism like rdr2, selling 30+ million copies the first month or even more?
The reality is a lot of people like this type of stuff rather than a good art style. I prefer both, but realism always sells, especially for casuals. Theres no brainwashing at play here.
Realistic graphics are better if they're realistic, but too many companies are just throwing things in UE5, turning TAA blur up to max, and then saying it's the best ever because the lighting engine is 1% more accurate.
I have no experience with their games aside from Layers of Fear 1, and I'm REALLY bad at walking-sim horror games (survivol horror where u get to fight back is fine tho).
The only thing that stuck to my head about them is how they apparently have a "if you're feeling s*cidal, it's better for everyone else if you're gone" approach to their stories.
Which, if false, then I'll gladly give their games a chance, but if its true then you understand my feelings on them.
Damn that's harsh, I've never heard of that about their stuff. The only thing I could tell you is that the Observer has some heavy stuff and the endings are "bad Vs worse", typical finales you'd find in every cyberpunk story.
I love the guys, and find I usually agree with them through the years. SH2R is good, they can be separate, the audience has changed and grown, considering those things 9/10.
Yahtzie from fully ramblomatic(previously zero punctuation), wasn't very enthusiastic about the remake(seemed to dislike it, but it's hard to judge his opinion).
He is a huge fan of the original and in his opinion it's the best horror game ever.
any youtuber who is passionate about survival horror hated on it (well i watched like 3). Plus one guy played the original after for the first time and thought it was better. I never played the remake but i think it’s unnecessary and doesn’t live up to the original artistically.
Huh. Weird, the people i watch who are also very passionate about survival horror liked it. One of them even played the remake right after replaying the original.
Not really, barring the usual internet culture war nonsense. It's generally been well-received across the board. The most negativity you'll see towards it are from people like me who simply prefer the original, but will typically acknowledge that the remake is still an objectively good game. If anything, I was pleasantly suprised the remake was as good as it was, given Bloober Team's prior track record.
Yes, the "everything is woke" crowd claims that the remake made Angela "ugly and not sexy enough", and that it changed Maria's outfit to a less slutty one.
I think a lot of remakes get a relatively small staff and lower budget to essentially make a new game that mimics an original. Like if you're making new models and textures but have half the staff of the original, they're going to look bad.
It still pisses me off how they did the Silent Hill 2 remake. An entire fucking city is fully rendered in crisp ultra hd just for it to get hidden by fog.
The fog was there in the OG for the precise reason of NOT having to render an entire city. Developers are literally REFUSING to utilize optimization techniques.
Man I didn't say anything about removing the fog. I said that the SH2 Remake devs literally chose to not optimize the game USING this fog, like they did in the OG.
A whole city that you can't even see is rendering and using up your resources. You need a more detailed explanation?
The whole point of a remake is to make money without having to create something original. It would defeat the point if they had to spend a ton of money making it actually better
Just look at their facial expressions lmao. One shows how the world was a hopeless nightmare full of fear. The other one they look like they are just going on a regular trip.
