Can part 141 student working on IFR do extra practices at Part 61?

Hi all,
I am finishing up my IFR training at part 141 university i only have one more long XC and one review and then it's stage check. our school only gives us 28 hours for IFR training and I don't think it's enough. Our school charges 300+ an hour for extra time so I'm just wondering am I legally allowed to go to a 61 school for extra training cuz they charge around 200ish an hour?

Of course you can. Does it count towards your 141 rating? No. Will it count towards your total time? Yes.

We have an overage limit where I work. To encourage students not to hit that limit who are struggling, I will send them to a trusted 61 outlet.

thank you!

Of course, place I rent from does a lot of extra lessons for CAE, UND, and ATP kids. It’s pretty common.

You've got a PPL. You are allowed to use those privileges - which would include simulated IFR with a safety pilot - at your leisure anywhere and in anything that is legal.
So yes. You absolutely can just go rent a plane and go practice on your own. Sorry that your 141 isn't doing a good enough job.

Will you be continuing for CPL under 141? If not, or if you think you might change to 61, make sure to get 10 hours of your training noted that they meet the requirements of 61.129(3)(i).
