Far_Advertising1005@reddit
Terrorist is just a designation for people with guns who don’t support the wests interests at this point. Violence for ideological gain is fine if you do apparently
SquirtSommelier@reddit
Are you saying that Hamas for instance then, aren’t terrorists?
spazken@reddit
Does Ukrainian militias count as a terrorist?
Same logic yet you guys are quick to discredit Palestinians for fighting for freedom no different then Ukranian fighting for theirs
Monterenbas@reddit
Palestinians and Ukrainians are fighting very differently and prioritize very different targets, to achieve the same objective of freedom tho.
xland44@reddit
Man, sexually harassing, raping and kidnapping civillians, and training child soldiers, killing foreign workers with garden hoes isn't fighting for Palestinian liberation. So no, it's not the same logic at all.
Redditthedog@reddit
Hamas usurped the legitimate Palestinian government and military force in a civil war in 2006-8. Meanwhile the Ukrainian militants are working adjacent with the Ukranian government (those who aren’t or are fighting both would be terrorist assuming they are committing what is considered terrorism and such)
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
The Ukrainian militias usurped the legitimate Ukrainian government in 2014. You know absolutely nothing about Ukraine do you?
o0ven0o@reddit
The militias didn't organize until after.
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
Azov played a direct role in the overthrowing of the democratically elected government.
o0ven0o@reddit
Azov didn't exist until May 2014, the old government fled in February. Azov formed as a reaction to russian actions in the Donbas.
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
Azov wasn’t recognized as a formal organization by the Ukrainian government until May 2014*
Members of Azov were a part of the massacre in Odessa. And by Russian aggression, do you mean Ukrainian police defending Ukrainian civilians against Azov? Azov committing unspeakable war crimes against Russian speaking Ukrainians in Mariupol is the reason why Russia started aiding the Separatists.
o0ven0o@reddit
Clearly delusional person who knows nothing about my country.
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
Or I know enough that you don’t want to respond.
Why are you responding on Reddit anyways? Shouldn’t you be on the frontline or did you flee the country? Or are you fortunate enough to know someone to keep yourself off TCC’s radar?
o0ven0o@reddit
I'm an academic historian. I study Ukrainian political/economic history. It's not my job to do the labour of educating the uninformed internet trolls.
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
Why aren’t you on the frontline, though? Plenty of academics have been nabbed by the ТЦК.
You stopped responding because I mentioned the direct history of Russia’s intervention in the Ukrainian civil war, which was Azov’s actions against Ukrainian civilians in Mariupol. Actions so egregious the Mariupol police defected, and started shooting back at Azov.
o0ven0o@reddit
You don't know Ukrainian law.
And you don't know Ukrainian history, only filtered through russian propaganda.
Disastrous-Link-9240@reddit
Are you saying Azov battalion didn’t commit war crimes in Mariupol? Are you saying the Mariupol police didn’t defect to the separatist DPR after the massacres in Mariupol?
You keep dodging my question. Why are you not on the frontline? Are you a coward who fled or are you an assigned propagandist?
Redditthedog@reddit
They had a revolution yes,
teslawhaleshark@reddit
America does recognize Ukrainian militia Misanthrope Division as a terrorist organization and the RVC is very on the edge whether it is one within the states
Kraken meanwhile is basically where white nationalists and the stereotypical gay internationalists shake hands
smegmaeater52@reddit
Storming into villages and massacring every Israeli man woman and child you see is fighting for freedom apparently
Far_Advertising1005@reddit
No? I’m saying that terrorists get to be not terrorists when the west decides they’re beneficial
loggy_sci@reddit
Do you think terrorism is only something that happens to/from the west? Russia designates terrorists as well, and disregards them as well.
This critique that somehow it’s only the west that does this is so stupid.
Far_Advertising1005@reddit
Where did I say only the west do this exactly
loggy_sci@reddit
You defined terrorism as something that ‘the west’ designates according to their interests. In a conversation about Syria, where until recently Russia was actively supporting Assad’s terrorism against his own people. Hand-waving away when non-western nations do this like it doesn’t matter because they don’t use this site?
Sure Jan.
Jumbo-box@reddit
Well the Troubles taught us that.
What were the Catholics meant to do, stay in their homes when they get petrol bombed? Carry on with their everyday, hoping to not get murdered or arrested on a bullshit terror charge?
Sometimes, people will resist and bite.
GothicGolem29@reddit
I mean they needed to do something but some of the terror attacks they did no that was not needed
Jumbo-box@reddit
Agreed
GothicGolem29@reddit
Glad we agree
Redditthedog@reddit
I mean being on the same side as Gadafi is usually a bad sign
AdditionalMeat1775@reddit
As long as they remain subservient to the US and choose to recognize Israel, we'll overlook international law and human rights violations even if we previously labeled you a terrorist for those same actions. Submit to us, and we'll dismiss these issues and turn a blind eye to any other war crimes you commit. However, oppose Israel/US, and you'll find yourself back on the terrorist list with sanctions, with our concern for human rights suddenly restored.
Remember, the label of "terrorist" is reserved for those who oppose us.
ShootmansNC@reddit
Goodbye old ISIS, welcome aboard new ISIS.
Sus_Suspect_4293@reddit
Funny how you were defending the Taliban the other day...
AdditionalMeat1775@reddit
What?
netflixissodry@reddit
Do you really expect the US to hold out until a group in Syria that supports equal rights for women, religion and sex suddenly appears? Best to just support what’s available so long as they don’t pull an ISIS. Taliban was tolerated until they crossed a line with 9/11.
teslawhaleshark@reddit
SDF
swelboy@reddit
The SDF doesn’t want to rule Syria though, they’re working with Sharaa’s government.
tabulasomnia@reddit
why not? why does US care about who runs syria? what business does US have on the other side of the world?
netflixissodry@reddit
Its a problem when syria can not keep their violence and terrorism within their own borders. Thats when US and others get concerned.
AdditionalMeat1775@reddit
I wish the US and NATO would cease their global acts of terrorism around the world. It's ironic to mention 9/11 as if it occurred in a vacuum, ignoring the preceding loss of millions of lives that fueled such hatred.
new_name_who_dis_@reddit
Taliban didn’t do 9/11, it was Al Qaeda. Although Taliban did allow Al Qaeda to setup base in Afghanistan.
But the rest of your comment i agree with. Would be funny to wait until a gay / trans /they / them militant group takes over Syria, I wonder how long it will be.
teslawhaleshark@reddit
There's always SDF but to Assad fans they're American proxies, to HTS fans they're Russian sellouts
swelboy@reddit
Even if you think the new Syrian government is bad, would it really even make sense to label them terrorists if they aren’t even launching any terror attacks?
Redditthedog@reddit
Are there any viable Syrian groups that haven’t committed human right violations directly or indirectly ?
AdditionalMeat1775@reddit
That's akin to asking, "When was America truly great?" The key difference between Syria and the US is that Syria doesn't claim to be the beacon of light for human rights, while being the biggest terrorist in the world.
teslawhaleshark@reddit
SDF
Redditthedog@reddit
I don’t think the Kurds (especially their more nationalist factions who want independence) can unite Syria alone unfortunately. For what its worth they are making deals with the current gov
okabe700@reddit
I don't think I've ever seen Trump complain about human rights violations in any meaningful sense, I think he's pretty clear in that he values his interests over any globalist human rights ideal
AdditionalMeat1775@reddit
Indeed, it seems American foreign policy has consistently positioned itself as the beacon of light and defender of human rights, while often overlooking its contradictions. Donald Trump is no different from other presidents who have held office, and it's naive to think that this approach is solely his doing.
mschuster91@reddit
Among the actors in Syria, HTS seem to be the best of the worst. On the other hand, that comparison includes Assad who committed horrors not seen at that scale ever since the 1933-1945 and 1945-1990 German dictatorships.
rattleandhum@reddit
ah, here he is again to defend Israel
teslawhaleshark@reddit
People driven out of the Golan and West Bank joined HTS and al-Tanf Front
mschuster91@reddit
Where in my post did I write anything about Israel?
Anyway: The fact is that HTS is, as of now, the closest thing Syria has to a government and we need to find ways to work with them on a global stage, particularly if we want to avoid yet another war.
rattleandhum@reddit
I recognise you from previous conversations, and the thrust of your arguments is always the same, pro-Israel.
And I'm sure a guy who used to chop people's heads off is another vital ally of Israeli interests.
mschuster91@reddit
Again: what the fuck does my comment history and tendency towards supporting Israel have to do with what's going on in Syria? If anything, the developments in Syria run counter to Israeli interests - they had reached an, albeit brittle, equilibrium with Assad. Islamists running Syria is not in Israel's interest.
The problem is, there's a lack of alternatives. Assad is out of the picture and so are the Alawites, I'm thankful ISIS isn't calling the shots now, the Kurds have enough on their hands dealing with Turkey, that more or less leaves HTS.
actually_JimCarrey@reddit
do you think HTS’s massacre of Alawites and kidnapping of Alawite women into sex slavery bodes well for internal syrian stability?
cptjeff@reddit
I'm about a Pro-Palestine as it gets and I'm in full agreement with him. HTS is as good as we're going to get right now. No, their hands are not clean. But they're committed to relatively responsible government, and that's a huge victory at this point. The alternatives were Aasad, who was cartoon evil, or far, far more repressive Islamists.
They're the least bad option. Welcome to global politics. Least bad is a good day.
Green_Space729@reddit
The HTS gov killed 1500 civilians over a single weekend.
And they’re currently kidnapping hundreds of individuals mostly religious minorities and women.
You people shrieked about hamas but when HTS does even worse it’s full support.
randompersononearth9@reddit
So they do not make deals or negotiate with terrorist. And especially no islamic terrorists because they are the worst.
Unless of course they bend over for the usa/israel and do their bidding. Then they are freedom fighters all of a sudden.
What a hypocritical joke. And they expect the rest of the world to still take them serious when they cant shut up about their freedom and high morals.
Can this administration and corrupt system not just burn down already.
Redditthedog@reddit
ok and what are the alternatives? We could be neutral/hate everyone equally and stay out all together but Libya isn’t exactly working out and it just makes it a playground for other groups with worse intentions or ideology
randompersononearth9@reddit
Stop funding these fucking islamic terrorist groups who will help take out the opposition. Just because they are willing to do it doesn't mean they are good or right. It means they sell away their country and kill their people for a share of the power and money. That is offered by usa/israel.
How many times will they fund a extremist group just because they agreed to do the dirty work for the west to then see them become the next big terrorist group. Now sanctioned by the west. And to make things worse they will point at them and say: see, they are barbaric. The people need to be liberated and we at the other side of the world will come there and destroy their infastructure. Maybe we can find allies who can help (bend over and willing to kill their own people)
It is not working. Iraq, Syria, afganistan, iran, libya, egypt have not become better by american democracy because it is all a corrupt joke. All they got was the country being blown up to pieces, mass masacres and getting blamed when they are rightfully angry and start forming groups.
Do you honestly believe that what the usa/israel have been doing is anywhere close to being a good thing for the world? Because a lot of the issues we are seeing today are caused by them. And i am not just talking about the middle east but globally.
They just have a better pr team than russia and china.
Redditthedog@reddit
Egypt is troubled but is certainly more stable then it was once. ISIS in the Sinai had a much tougher time making gains and ultimately was contained then they did in say Syria and Iraq for example. Iran is odd to include at all we didn’t back the Ayatollah’s rise at all. Afghanistan was certainly better under US control but the net result is just a return to how it already was before 2001. Syria and Libya revolutions occurred as part of the Arab spring not the US doing.
randompersononearth9@reddit
Iran got fucked into choosing an islamic uprising because of the ploitical interference of usa/israel. Syria got ripped apart and every country/ side funded a extremist group during that civil. Afganistan became the biggest opium exporter in the world during the usa reign.
Dont come with these basic propaganda talking points like they mean anything. None of the countries in the middle east have had any significant progress exept for a handfull like saudi arabia, Qatar and kuwait. The rest have all seen major roadblock the second they talk about abandoning the dollar or natinalizing the resources. Whenever they want actual freedom or just form a middle east alliance the usa/ israel is there to bomb them into submission again.
You show that you are nothing more than just a puppet who parrots certain talking points
teslawhaleshark@reddit
Old news, Trump freed Baradar, and Baradar's victory in Afghanistan helped him win the 2024 election
