My pinky just started doing the same thing from time to time. Usually, it's the stiffest when I wake up. I'm familiar with trigger finger (my dad had thumb surgery maybe 10 years ago). At this point I'm just living with it.

Trigger finger isn’t too good. Mechanisms behind trigger finger simply put is inflammation of the tendon that is responsible for movement of the finger. Tendons basically have 2 parts. There’s an outer shell that has little movement and the “tendon” is inside that shell. The inflammation is of that inner portion of the tendon. If the trigger finger gets bad enough the inner portion of the tendon can get so inflamed that the tendon no longer moves within the outer shell. Only fixable by surgery. Hand/ wrist stretches will help YouTube has good videos to follow. Drink water (bare minimum 1.5 liters a day), stay away/ reduce sugar and other inflammatory foods (fried shit, greasey shit, sugar not from fruits, bread). Also need to change up what that hand does from its day to day activities so it can stretch and perform different movements. Trigger finger comes from repetition of the same movement over long periods of time.

It’s been really hot this week, and you’re probably dehydrated and low on Magnesium and Potassium. Drink a lot of water especially on hot days because even behind the windshield, we are being exposed to some UV rays. Now like I tell my husband daily, Pepsi doesn’t count as water! When I think my potassium/magnesium/etc is a little off, I buy a V8 and try to chug it. If I’m low on those vitamins, it will taste delicious, but if I’m good, my tastebuds really do not like vegetable juice.

All kinds of weird twitches and muscle spasms and other things are caused by low magnesium. Get yourself a magnesium supplement. Everybody will tell you that there's a certain kind to get and I forget what it is so I just bought the supplement that had all three kinds mixed together. Not only that but if you have a heart attack apparently one of the first things they give you is an IV full of magnesium because usually you're unstable heart twitching is often caused by muscular contractions because you have a lack of magnesium just like the same kind of things that cause your eye to twitch or your legs to cramp or restless leg syndrome.

If it's the hand you drive with or your dominant hand, more than likely it's trigger finger. I had it on 2 of my fingers on the same hand. Dr wasn't concerned and it's not serious if that's you're only symptom. It resolved on its own after a few months.

Trigger finger turns into restless leg syndrome. You need to get more activity on the road event 250 miles, walk around your truck 12 times. It makes a mile. Do jumping jacks. I practice my Spanish in loops at rest area. Your body is telling you to get up and move.

Go to a local walk in clinic if it persists. I woke up one morning not able to get my eyes to work together, and half my mouth was numb. (I slept great for 8 hours) I thought it was anxiety (I had a lot going on at the time), smoked a cigarillo and drank some coffee... no improvement, so I laid back down. Slept another hour and got up again, only change was my balance was getting wonky, so I called in the Calvary (I wasn't far from home, Brother came and got me) Went to ER the next morning, only thing that had changed was my balance was getting worse. Turns out I'd had a brainstem stroke in my sleep the night before. 4 years later, I'm still dealing with the fallout from that. It could've been worse, but it was bad enough.

Scary, right? Mine happened to my whole fucking hand - thumbs. I surprisingly use my left hand for a lot of things, but a couple of months ago it was just...frozen in place. I could move my thumb, but the rest of the fingers wouldn't. I had to move them with my other hand and kinda 'warm them up' before using them.....and it was every time I sat for a few minutes without using my left hand. Turns out I was *severely* dehydrated. I literally fixed it on accident. My ex-wife bought me a giant water bottle and I drank it (like a gallon of water) and I stopped having the issue. But for a few days there, I thought I was going to have to have it cut off or something.

I have trigger thumb, which is the same thing. I had been doing the same repetitive motion, and had to find a different way to perform the task. My Dr referred me to a hand specialist, and he gave me a shot that helped. But some people have to have surgery, if it doesn't get better.
