IFR_Flyer@reddit (OP)
Can't wait to be an old guy in 30 years and brag about how I used to land back in the "good old days" when CLT only had 36/18
DirtyEtzio@reddit
How about this.......I used to land on 5/23 "back in the day". Current old guy.
therocketflyer@reddit
Facts, hated CLT, loved landing 23!
PissesGreatnessDaily@reddit
We are just glad to still have you here with us šš½
mad_catters@reddit
Almost slammed on the brakes the other day. "Are we cleared to cross 23??"
"Whats 23? this is J"
sound-of-impact@reddit
That's like crossing 32L in ORD
FarawayScreech@reddit
Almost living up to your flair.
SkippytheBanana@reddit
Iām taking off 23 old!!
capt_Obvious2u@reddit
Yeah man! Landing on 5⦠seems like decades ago. Holy crap was that decades ago?!?
tikkamasalachicken@reddit
The ol CLT landing strip
skunimatrix@reddit
Growing up I was around a bunch of World War II and Korean War pilots. Ā Planes sat out on the tarmac. Ā Which seems to really piss people off. Ā Also would say āVORā not V-O-R because itās quickerā¦
elkab0ng@reddit
Unless you were a fancy-pants and had LORANā¦
skunimatrix@reddit
My plane had LORAN in it until around 2000 when it was removed and replaced with a GNS430 & KLN90.
CannonAFB_unofficial@reddit
Position and hold!
Madroc92@reddit
Post title initially made me think the FAA approved the sale of naming rights.
Cleared to land Bank of America, American 341
Brickyard 3520, line up and wait DraftKings
RaidenMonster@reddit
Itās fun now exiting 36C immediately into the fucked up ramp when you arenāt a regular there then getting shit talked to by the 22 year old ramp controller with a bad attitude.
Then the captain drives the wrong way towards the gate to seal the deal. Lots of fun.
poser765@reddit
āWhat the fuck is an orange line?ā
RaidenMonster@reddit
Almost as dumb as DEN with the green and purple lines. Super easy to see purple on black at night in a snow storm. Thanks guys.
Also, youāre 50th for departure and we just turned the airport around for the 17th time today.
ClearedInHot@reddit
Which means you're now number one!
JasonThree@reddit
In DEN: captain, "are we on the purple line?" me looks at the AMM, "uh yeah, it appears we are" š
grumpycfi@reddit
No one does less with more, baby!
poser765@reddit
Makes no sense in Denver.
Sensitive-Tone5279@reddit
Can you fix the shitters in E please.
And by "Fix" i mean "install"
SEA_tide@reddit
I judge airport terminals by the quality of their restrooms. Few airports do well (ATL, SMF, and PDX are possible exceptions), but CLT is arguably worse than places like SEA and MSP.
827020@reddit
SLC is among the best, EXCEPT that the auto-flush never works. So you have to use the big toe of your shoe to press the pencil-eraser-sized button, to clear out the gifts left from the previous dude
mitch_kramer@reddit
The bathroom situation in the E terminal is a disaster. As you stated not enough stalls, even in the brand new bathrooms. The old bathrooms that haven't been renovated only have a couple each as well. Not to mention none of the urinals have any kind of barrier between them so taking a leak is also very uncomfortable and awkward.
MontgomeryEagle@reddit
The whole airport situation in CLT is a disaster
ImmortanBen@reddit
Is that one guy still working there that says, "Welcome to my nice small clean restroom?"
notagreatpilot@reddit
Just go to mainline American /s
Chubbers44@reddit
Or ual and you donāt have to follow an orange or blue line
TemporaryAmbassador1@reddit
Just tear the whole terminal down and start over.
69pylote@reddit
Dude yes.
Sensitive-Tone5279@reddit
I was there the other day around the E-36-40 circle and was like "oh this looks like a nice new bathroom" and there's 3 stalls and 2 guys waiting for them.
The fuck.
PM_ME_CORONA@reddit
ITT:āCharlotte badā
firestorm_v1@reddit
And your arrival will STILL be at one end of that hellhole of an airport and your connecting flight will STILL be at the other ass-end of the airport and you've got to run like hell because they're 5mins before the doors close. I hate that damn airport.
No_The_White_Phone@reddit
donāt forget! no train and half of the moving sidewalks are inop. CLT is making the fat people in the south pay for it!
mild-blue-yonder@reddit
THIS WOKE RENAMING STUFF HAS GONE TOO FAR
CASAdriver@reddit
Why not do like MCO or ATL where they have two sets of L/R runways for the N/S or E/W complexes
JasonThree@reddit
It there's gonna be 4, id prefer one set be L C R and a different number like that are doing. Because then id at least know it's all the way to the left, or the middle one etc. I can't remember what side 35L is at MCO vs 36R.
OrganicParamedic6606@reddit
From a human factors perspective, since 3 are on one side of the field, Iād group those with similar names. That way the rightmost of the 3 (looking north) isnāt called L
MontgomeryEagle@reddit
This makes sense. Sort of like how PHX does things with 2 on one side and 1 on the other.
Soonerlegend@reddit
Am I reading the post wrong I believe this is exactly what theyāve done.
CASAdriver@reddit
That's actually clever
zryder94@reddit
Or LAX
MontgomeryEagle@reddit
LAX has 2 parallels on each side. Makes more sense to number those together.
McCheesing@reddit
DFW has entered the chat
prex10@reddit
It would require tearing down a subdivision to the east of the airport.
The land to build this runway is empty.
IFR_Flyer@reddit (OP)
That would make too much sense
Vailacs@reddit
Hate CLT. I've never seen ramp and ground fuck up so badly something that should be so easy to manage. Ramp especially.
Passer2300@reddit
Hey now, that ramp is incredibly safe. Hard to cause an accident if they cant move anyone more than an inch at a time. And of course to make it safer they just key up the radio so nobody can call and ask to move. Double safe
StPauliBoi@reddit
Still wonāt be able to find it.
minfremi@reddit
Itās still gonna suck.
For one, I thought they were going to have two pairs of parallel runways, instead of a triplet and a single, for naming purposes.
And I wish they made 5/23 into two taxiways instead of a single wide one. Ya know, to ease congestion on the ramp.
ZOB_oo_land@reddit
For naming purposes, a triplet and a single makes perfect sense. I actually like that decision.
minfremi@reddit
For some reason I thought the single runway was on the other side. It makes more sense now.
It still wonāt resolve the congestion on the ramp though.
If we can somehow get a tunnel or bridge for regional aircraft only on the north side of the airportā¦
JGloom@reddit
Anyone else ever fly around in circles just trying to locate CLT?
Drunkenaviator@reddit
I saw runway names and thought they were actually naming them. Was waiting for Landy McLandface or something.
SEA_tide@reddit
Same. I do know some airports have generic names for their runways like "big" and "little" and in the case of SEA, "new" or "third," but for someone not familiar with the airport it would get confusing much like the terminal names at DTW.
themedicd@reddit
Same. My disappointment is palpable
GeorgiaPilot172@reddit
Cause another runway will surely solve the dumpster fire that is CLT
SamSamTheDingDongMan@reddit
Same vibe as ājust one more laneā. Letās adjust 0 bottlenecks and just slap another runway on
GeorgiaPilot172@reddit
They mustāve hired Atlanta traffic planners for this project.
ZOB_oo_land@reddit
It's okay, they also followed ATL/DFW example of installing an end-around loop, except it dumps everyone straight into the DL ramp
GeorgiaPilot172@reddit
I exclusively go into the DL ramp and Iāve never been given this loop. Itās always hold short at V4 or V5 so that 6,000 PSA CRJs can take off in front of you.
H4ppenSt4nce@reddit
They donāt do the loop during south takeoffs
ZOB_oo_land@reddit
Watches block time for the day contine ticking
Maleficent-Basil8626@reddit
Surely another runway will solve the ramp issues
Milktoast27@reddit
We can increase volume to funnel into our state of the art streamlined ramp system .
contrail_25@reddit
Neat, so like zero improvement to this shitty terminal and ground congestion.
duaIinput@reddit
I think Iām gonna puke.
cptnpiccard@reddit
Damn, 18R turning into 1L? And 36L turning into 19R? What a mind bender!
midgelino@reddit
Should still be eradicated
pandab34r@reddit
Now with 25% more planes waiting hours for de-icing in the winter
casualdogiscasual@reddit
It bothers me how they switched the orders of how they wrote the numbers in their post. Almost reads as runway 18 becomes runway 1 instead of 36 becoming 1
nomadschomad@reddit
The convention is to list the smaller number first
So when 36 becomes 1, it moves to the front of the listing
19-1 is just backwards.
Chubbers44@reddit
I already hate 19R, that runway sucks
Available_Coyote_441@reddit
They're really trying to squeeze 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag.
