Which restaurant or pub did you go to that had the most memorable ploughmans in your opinion and what about it made it so good?

Years ago, but it was a pub in a small village in Derbyshire.
It was just very nice, home made bread, local blue cheese, 3 types of home made pickles, home made scotch egg and a warm slice of pork pie and a few chunks of cold roast gammon. Had it with a few pints of very nice ale and sat in the beer garden with a great view of the countryside, no arseholes around and a picky lunch, it just worked perfectly.

Could have been anywhere I guess, but based on a few clues here...might it have been the Pack Horse in Crowdecote?

no, i've been looking for it but no luck so far. It was in/around the Hope Valley area, but I can't find it. Peak district anyway.

I had this one at a farm shop, it was huge, there was a sausage roll hiding under the ham and the chutney was from homegrown pumpkins

The Wheatsheaf Inn in Ludlow used to do a pretty good one, probably still does. Disclaimer: I had one during the beer crawl of the food & drink festival, but I remember it hitting the spot.
Memory unlocked.... the first ploughmans I ever ate was in the 80s at The Crown in Old Dalby, Leicestershire. Was very happy to discover Stilton and have never looked back.

Easy. The Pandora Inn, on the river north of Falmouth. Ordered for one, could feed three. Excellent chutneys.
Honourable mention to the George IV behind Lincoln's Inn Fields back in 2010. Just because the landlord would give us each a whole block of cheddar like you'd get from the supermarket. Unwrapped, plonked, served. Ridiculous.

I was travelling at the time, June 22. I randomly ended up in a town called Hardcastle, and there was a cafe called "The Bridge" on Bridge street, which had a window that over looked the River Bain.
I ordered the ploughman's, it was all fresh, beautifully presented. A fantastic lunch served at a little table that overlooked the River. I enjoyed my lunch and watched the ducks swim on by.
Whenever someone mentions a Ploughman's, I'm taken straight back to there.

Farmer browns, just up the A52 north of Skegness.
They include proper Lincolnshire haslet as part their ploughman’s. And I love me some haslet.
Plus all the food is locally sourced and the various cheeses are delicious. It’s nothing special in terms of presentation but it’s very tasty.
They also make ice cream from their own herd of cows and I’m told it’s very good

Used to live in Lincs, I miss Chine too and proper Lincs sausages.

Newport Inn, Braishfield. Sadly now closed. Used to go there regularly for lunch from work at nearby Hursley, in the 1990s. Very simple, very sumptuous. Picked onions that would melt your face. Massive block of cheese. Mouth is watering right now!

Had a pretty good one in the restaurant at this place....

The Crown in Churchill, Somerset is my favourite of all time. The bread is insane!
Everything on their menu is amazing to be honest. Lunchtime food only tho...

I remember one years ago at an NT property. It had the biggest slab of cheese included - practically half a standard square block. Ham, apple, pickle, pork pie slice, garnish, crusty bread & butter. Not seen one like that in years tho

The thing that makes or breaks the enjoyment of a ploughman’s in my experience is the quality of the pickles. I would marry a jar of pickles if it was legal. I love them that much.
My favourite ploughman’s was in a slightly upmarket restaurant in the Cotswolds. It came on a fancy platter board and you could assemble it yourself. Fun and delicious

Do you remember the name?
instosla@reddit
No unfortunately not. It was an unplanned stop in a small village after we were just passing by. I’d love to go back if I could remember where it was. I was being silly and asked the waiter for a ‘ploof-mans’

Martin Arms in Colston Bassett (home of Stilton). Long Clawson for cheddar is also nearby. Plus some Melton Mowbray pork pie.
