What's the new Etsy and NOTHS?

With Etsy and Not on the high street being saturated with people buying off temu and selling for a premium, I feel it's only a matter of time before these two selling platforms go under.
So what now? Whats the new 'home crafted' selling platform?

I just filter for dispatched from UK and then check into who I'm buying from

I did all of that and still got some shit dropshipped from China. The item that turned up was, in its basic description, what I ordered (a green bag), but it clearly wasn’t handmade, it wasn’t great quality, and it had another brand’s label on it and then a tag which didn’t match the label OR the name of the Etsy shop and had English which made no sense. The packaging had a Chinese shipping label.
I messaged the seller to query, and they immediately apologised, cancelled my order (even though I’d already received it which is against Etsy’s seller terms) so that I couldn’t leave a review, and refunded me - presumably how they still got so many 5* reviews when I looked into it.
They had some stuff in their bio about the people making the items, photos of their studio in London, everything looked genuine and handmade, said they shipped from the UK and they had all good reviews.

And with people having their own websites to sell their wares, they can't get noticed because search engines are now gamed towards those who will pay most to have their 'sponsored' ads at the top of the search. It's all gone wrong wrong wrong.

My wife sells handmade embroidery designs and kits. She's in the process of moving from Etsy to Folksy

I used to be a noths seller, I think lots of people started focusing on their own websites as it's been going tits up for a long time. Also Folksy and Holly Tucker's Holly & Co has a lot of the really great makers from noths.
Brilliant-Offer-4208@reddit
Holly Tucker is NOTHS though isn't she?
freckledotter@reddit
No she sold the business years ago!

I sell on Etsy -handmade stuff. I also have my own website and sell on redbubble and Faire. Every Etsy seller I know also has multiple other platforms. There is a huge amount of Ai & temu rubbish on Etsy but genuine handmade stuff does exist- you just have to look for us unfortunately.

Etsy is not about to “go under”.

Obviously I'm not privvy to their business plan but they're whole basis is selling home crafted products. Everyone I know has stopped buying from there because Etsy can't or won't stop these temu/ali express sellers.
It's only a matter of time before that cash cow is found out by everyone and Etsy has no customers. It's quite a common pump and dump business model come to think of it.
Build a business up on good quality products, drop quality and milk profits for as long as you can, then dump.

From a lot of their marketing these days they don't actually push the hand crafted side any more. Etsy don't care much about resellers because that's what gets them the money (lots of posts on this on the Etsy subs)

But people have been saying this for years. There was a whole blog, Regretsy, dedicated to highlighting the mass-produced stuff on there. But Regretsy is long gone and Etsy still seems to be around.

I mean that's wrong for a start. Etsy facilitates the sale of goods, it doesn't sell physical product itself. The quality of products is governed by the sellers, and you can easily avoid the low quality products by reading reviews.
They making $100s of billions in profit per year, with sales around $2.8 billion.
I think you are way off thinking they're about to go under.

Well that's not everyone is it?
Welshpoolfan@reddit
I wish I could make profits at a rate of 100 times my revenue.
I assume the first billions should say millions?
heliskinki@reddit
Yep, sorry will edit accordingly.

It happens- just tickled me

This is what I'm looking for. Thanks.
I think Etsy is just becoming another eBay. People don't want to have to do mild detective work to see what sellers are legit.

Have you checked your local Facebook/community groups? There are usually a number of crafters and homemakers trying to sell their wares from gift baskets to crochet to pyrography signs etc. You may find something nearby and support a local person.

Hum... Etsy has a market cap of $5.6 billion. There are investor questions about growth but "only a matter of time..."
djashjones@reddit
Every time I look on the Etsy, it's from china. Just as bad as ebay, amazon, etc.
