Most Americans may not know about the Hmong people, but I was curious and asked this question.
Many Hmong people immigrated to the United States at the end of the Vietnam War, so I was curious to know where they currently live in the United States.

I believe California has the most Hmong people, followed by Minnesota.
I live in Minneapolis-St. Paul and we have a huge Hmong population, all over the metro area but especially concentrated in the St. Paul side.
To vastly oversimplify things, St. Paul is known for its Hmong community and Minneapolis for its Somali community.

I hear there's a lot in east Texas, but I don't know for sure.

Following Suni Lee’s career taught me it’s the Twin Cities

When I looked into it, apparently Portland did because it was one of the sanctuaries set up for the Hmong who left Vietname following that whole genocide thing hey did. But also, that was a long time ago. Not sure if the Portland character of Vietnamese is going to fufil you itch for Vietnamese culture. Most people seem to be several generations removed at this point. But Portland was one of the major cities in which people taking the last chopter out of Vietname were resettled.

California at some point did

Merced, if I remember right, had a major (disproportionately large) Hmong population for quite a while.
"The Spirit Catches You Fall Down" by Anne Fadiman is a great read about a Hmong family. It discusses the interplay of Hmong culture and their struggles with their epileptic child, as recent immigrants, as they navigated the US health system.

Personally haven't met a Hmong person yet that I know of but first learned of Hmong people from the Gran Torino movie (even though I heard there's cultural inaccuracies)

There are large groups in California, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. After the war, a lot migrated to Chicago, but later those groups moved to Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Wisconsin. Hmong is our third most spoken language.

Minneapolis-St. Paul is the largest. Fresno, CA and Sacramento also have fairly large populations (relative) and Milwaukee, WI. Denver, Detroit and Anchorage also have populations in the thousands.
There are also random small pockets, like Hickory, NC and Lakeland, FL.

Oddly enough there’s a large Hmong community in Central Ohio, just south of Columbus in an area called Urbancrest.
