A variation on the $100 hamburger

I have been trying to build up my solo cross country time in advance of doing my IR, so I flew to an airport near a beach today and went for a swim, then flew home. It'd have been an 8 hour drive each way. Flying was much more fun (and scenic).

3 hours of flying and sightseeing that included a stop at an airport that is known for its pizza.
The total cost of plane rental (wet) and pizza was $500. It's completely worth it!

“Unless there are photos, it didn’t happen.”
Said my scuba instructor as he grabbed my point and shoot camera, stuffed it down the back of his swim shorts, and activated the shutter.

Just remember, after scuba diving, you need to wait either 12 or 24 hours before flying depending on different factors.

I’m just fortunate the camera wasn’t put down the front of his shorts.

You wouldn’t want pictures of his shlong

So what you’re saying is… it depends?

It doesn’t have to be “solo cross country” unless you’re a student pilot. If you’re a private pilot, it just has to be PIC cross country time.

Fair enough. Poor choice of words. My wife won't fly with me, and she won't let my kids fly with me either, so I chose to go alone today, rather than ask a friend to join. Sometimes I just like being up there on my own.

And that’s fine. But your wording implied that you had to build solo XC time in furtherance of your IR.

Also try looking for nearby airports with a museum on the field

There's an airport near my home airport with a museum. Unfortunately it's a military base too :(

I fly 1.5 hours, one-way, to have a coffee with my sister at the FBO which is 10 min from her apartment and then I fly back home. You've got your license man and you're using it like you should...just have fun :)

The most ridiculous mission I ever did was to get some discontinued Ikea parts for a wardrobe so we could do some rearranging. The store in our city didn't have the stuff, but one a few hours away did. So yeah, I flew a club plane 1+ hour, took a courtesy car to pick up the parts, then flew back home.
Somehow the fact that it was for cheap Ikea stuff just made it that much more incongruous, like this hilarious combination of being frugal and extravagant.
