(tariffs had the biggest impact in regards to the notable decrease in sales)

Mercedes-Benz sees the high demand for the 2026 CLA (that is currently on sale exclusively as an EV but will towards the end of the year be accompanied by a gasoline variant and a shooting brake variant) as a sign of future sales success for future EV models from Mercedes-Benz, predominately from their EA platform that will replace their EQ platform.
Any data you don’t see in this post is either not here because there’s already a lot data here and the data your looking for can be found in the linked article or I was very questionable about if it was accurate.

Meanwhile my buddies A220 just lost a transmission lol.
accountforrealppl@reddit
I unexpectedly ended up with my 2012 e350 and have really enjoyed it, I suspect my next car will be a newer e class. My grandfather that I bought it from, who had mostly owned lexuses/acuras before, said that it was his favorite daily driver he ever owned and ended up upgrading to a current gen S class.
Neither of us ever buy new cars so it's not like mercedes cares about us anyways, but they make great vehicles and I totally get the popularity.
rg25@reddit
Pretty sure german taxi's are E classes so they're actually quite reliable depending on the drivetrain I am sure.
Parcours97@reddit
Yes but 90% of these taxis have a 200/220D drivetrain which isn't available in NA afaik.
LeHomie_@reddit
Mercedes was offering special equipped taxis for a special rate. That is the reason why you see mainly taxis from Mercedes in Germany. In bigger cities there were even additional service stations able to provide replacement taxis when you had a breakdown.
accountforrealppl@reddit
Yeah they've got some issues but as a whole it's a pretty reliable car. The transmissions were super fragile the first few years, by 2012 they had improved it a lot but they were still somewhat on the lower end of reliability. I think the engine and transmission mounts are pretty fragile as well, and the turbo engines like in the e550 had some issues, but the e350 came with an NA V6 that's quite reliable.
Between myself and my grandfather, we've collectively owned the car for 10 years and taken it from 15k miles to 115k miles. Only issues have been a small oil leak and a tire pressure sensor going bad (which may or may not have been related to me curbing the wheel in a starbucks drive thru, oops)
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
I would defintely recommend the current gen e class whenever you do decide to get a new model. A lot reviewers have commuincated it’s a notably better e class all around then recent generations. Also although brands do sometimes provide incentives for awards it did get awarded car of the year by motor trend and top 10 best car by car and driver which even if Mercedes did a favor for those awards I’m sure the car was still rather impressive to them
accountforrealppl@reddit
Yeah I would love to pick one up in a few years, specially an e450 since I hear great things about the powertrain. I have a pretty awful commute which is often 45-60+ mins of straight stop and go traffic, and I hear newer mercedes have great auto cruise for that which would be huge for me, and the main reason a lot of other comparable cars are off the table for my next car for me. I just hope I'm able to hang on to my current car for long enough that I'll be able to afford the current gen e450 by then.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
That’s tough and yeah I hear the same and have seen the same in tests it’s been in. I hope you car last you long enough and feel free to let me know once you get the e450
hi_im_bored13@reddit
The current e450 is about as good as it gets, if you are fine with the infotainment. Both the m276 in the older 350/450 and the current m256 i6 are smooth, reliable, with plenty of power. The i4 is slighly unrefined for the platform though
Ran4@reddit
Can't imagine buying something that isn't even phev in 2025, unless you're buying a sports car.
It just makes no sense, these cars are about smoothness, which you won't get without electric motors.
TheGuyDoug@reddit
Similar -- recently bought a 2014 E350, and I've been absolutely delighted how much nicer it is, end to end, than my outgoing 2020 Armada.
Krakajo@reddit
What in the shill post in this ? Lmao Mentioning only the positive highlights, conveniently glossing over the fact their sales are cratering in China and S Class demand collapsing as well.
woodsides@reddit
How are they doing in China?
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
19% decrease, 140,400 sales
HTTP404URLNotFound@reddit
Dang china seems to be an increasingly rough market for foreign makes
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Despite that, the S-Class is still best selling large limo there. They still can hold in China even though sales is decreasing there.
Krakajo@reddit
Winner in a dying segment, great
woodsides@reddit
Are there any legit chinese equivalents to it yet? Even if there are, the western badge plays a big role in the luxury market there.
HTTP404URLNotFound@reddit
There is the Hongqi H9. But Im not sure how close it comes.
TangerineBroad4604@reddit
They can't compete vs domestic EVs, at both a political and spec / price disadvantage
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
I mean tarrifs we’re still in effect plus it’s very competitive there
FirstSFWAccount@reddit
Since when has the ‘26 CLA been on sale / delivered?
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
I don’t know but ever since Mercedes said they’ve seen high demand for it and since they’ve had to put more time towards building them.
FirstSFWAccount@reddit
I’ll wait for the actual figures, but I seriously hope it and its hideous 150+ Benz logos (literally, not exaggerating) fails.
CLE I can appreciate, but that “new direction” the CLA is taking Mercedes is looking visually identical of an approach to their EQ failure.
Ran4@reddit
Who gives a fuck about the number of logos. It's a car and the car looks good. That's what's important when it comes to looks, not random metrics.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
To get an idea of its price for the U.S., it’s listed on their European site for about 59,000 euros. The grill has over 150 logos in itself.
It’s pretty different then the route they with their EQ models design wise and statistically lol. It’s a leader in its segment in like some of the EQ models upon debut and very traditional looking.
FirstSFWAccount@reddit
Leader in its segment according to what data? It’s literally not out yet.
Who has even once said the EQ line looked traditional? Their failure of making every model a jellybean is making them find ways to ironically restore a traditional look.
This CLA is the same thing, another jelly bean drag-coefficient vehicle.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
Charging and mileage wise.
I didn’t say the EQ looked traditional.
The CLA has either the same body as the previous CLA or a very similar one.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Really no wonder why Mercedes looking to expend their G-Wagon lineup.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
They assured the public that they were still Developing a smaller G wagon but besides that I get why they likely don’t want to make more variants and trims. Sure it’s great to continue to increase sales for for the nameplate but a time will come if Mercedes doesnt think it already has where hiring more employees, moving employees around and production of other models, and maybe even building new factories won’t seem worth it regardless of the expected sales.
OldSchoolSpyMain@reddit
The crossover SUV market is soooo saturated. I wonder if they feel the need to do something with the G-Wagen brand and mystique. Something a little more down-market (read: less expensive) that will drive more sales.
I'm not saying that I want this (I don't). But I feel like that's what's gonna happen. Kinda like how Porsche had the successful Cayenne and spun off the Macan.
The Macan and Cayenne share maybe a key fob design and that's it, but many consumers think it's a "Baby Cayenne".
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
Yeah that’s probably why their doing it. Selling a cheaper version of a pricier option will also sell well as long as it’s well made
OldSchoolSpyMain@reddit
Yup. And before anyone says that it'll be stupid to try to shrink the G-Wagen, think about this. BMW made the X5, which was a world-wide hit. Then they made the X3...then X4, X6, X1, then X2. They are totally milking that shit dry.
And Mercedes isn't above doing stuff like that. They've slapped an "AMG" logo on damn near everything as a way to cash in. I'm pretty sure that an AMG Sprinter has been mocked up and they are just waiting on the go sign from leadership 😂
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
To be fair Mercedes has done that to the GLS by creating the GLA, GLB, GLC, and GLE. I’d say an amg sprinter is unlikely but maybe one will come at one point since Mercedes did say there will be more cars only available as amgs
KingKontinuum@reddit
Wait I thought Mercedes sales were in free fall because all everyone hates their cars?
mishap1@reddit
YoY for Q2, they're down 8% and EVs are down 14%. They're down double digits in China which is nearly double the volume of the US at this point. US is down 6% probably only due to some folks trying to buy before tariffs push prices up.
It's not a rosy # for them.
tastesinteresting@reddit
The new cla and gla will improve their ev sales. the cla is the first car in the segment to match the current model 3's efficiency and also surpass its range with slightly faster charging.
It will cost around 30% more for a similar spec but yeah 😅
KingKontinuum@reddit
These numbers are not great but the narrative has been that MB is underperforming because everyone hates Mercedes but it seems that this is more to do with the effects of tariffs.
mishap1@reddit
YoY Q2 is actually down 12% in the US. I was reading the YTD #. They were selling 98k cars in Q2 2022. They're down to 25% from what they were selling this quarter 2022 in the US.
This is a rough time for them.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
If defintely has more to do with that. Mercedes sales were very stable and even increasing in quite a few areas generally speaking and increasing more so I imagine things would look immensely different if the tarrifs weren’t ever put in place
byroking@reddit
Umm, these are not strong numbers.
KingKontinuum@reddit
Umm, my comment is addressing why they’re not.
Unoriginal-@reddit
God I’d love a CLE AMG, glad to see it’s doing well
IWantToPlayGame@reddit
The CLE has been a home run.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
It truly has, defintely had to be too to replaced the coupes
andrenoble@reddit
Yeah, 'great'. Not really E-coupe, and too big for C-coupe. Awesome car /s
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
You’d be right though lol. It is a c class coupe with a bunch sparkles over it. Gave it and their giving it a lot of power for the 63 as a non hybrid V8 model and will continue to market it as a truthful replacement for fhe e class coupe as well
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
It is a great looking car, I’m eager to see the CLE63 too. They’ll probably reveal it next year alongside the facelifted CLE.
spongebobscubepants@reddit
Saw a CLE today. It looked a bit too curvy in a 90s Taurus kind of way and the wheels lifted it off the ground a bit too much but it wasn’t horrible.
I’ve heard mixed things about modern MBs and being too many screens and reduced interior quality. So hadn’t bothered really looking at their current offerings.
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit (OP)
There’s models have dipped in quality a bit but they’ve said they’ve invested a lot of money into improving it, I think the ceo said like 13 billion dollars and some models they have are notably more reliable then others like the GLE, e class, c class, GT, GLC, and g wagon. I haven’t heard many issues about the CLE either so that’s another one
snktiger@reddit
the gigantic piece of wood/plastic on the passenger side of E class if you don't opt for screen is so overwhelming.
and benz still using screen with huge bezel... even in Maybach
