Hate when my window looks like this

Genuinely curious if the only way to fix this issue is for the airline to replace the outer window pane?

Every picture you take will look like a death metal album cover

Sitting here like “man that’s pretty sick”
Swagger897@reddit
There are procedures to repair this however it’s much easier to just replace. Not a valid issue however.
Sowhataboutthisthing@reddit
What’s the visibility threshold for it to become a valid issue?
RudimentsOfGruel@reddit
What in the NJ Transit airline is this?
dnuohxof-2@reddit
Could be headed to EWR
10Exahertz@reddit
NJT is scratched up and LIRR looks like it went through a dust storm.
SRSchiavone@reddit
Legit thought this was r/NJTransit lmao

What causes this
Arcus009@reddit
Look up airplane window crazing
Jackmino66@reddit
Likely many years of hail accumulating damage over time. It’s basically just an indicator of how long that window has been in service.
I can’t remember the last time I flew on a full scale airliner and it didn’t have some scuffs on the outer window

Waiting on someone who knows more than I do about the phenomenon to weigh in.
Ok-Skill-8259@reddit
What row are you in? The very first window on the Port side of the plane gets scratched up by the jetway. I’ve noticed this in particular on LATAM A320s based on the configure of the plane.
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
2A
Ok-Skill-8259@reddit
Hmm. That’s the second or third window back. I’ve got nothing for you. 🤣
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
Haha. It is odd that I see this on LATAM a lot.

Creatures on the wing, of course.
railker@reddit
Obviously depending on the aircraft and the depth we can polish that out, too. By hand. No power tools allowed. RIP to your view.
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
Yeah. This sucks. Especially on this route ( AEP-SCL ) with great views of the snowy Andes mountains
PaddyMayonaise@reddit
What is AEP and SCL?
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
AEP - Aeroparque Jorge Newberry Buenos Aires, Argentina SCL - Arturo Menino Benitez International Airport Santiago de Chile

Do people actually know all of these airport codes in this sub? Seems like people only use them instead of the actual airport name
Any-Investigator8324@reddit
I don't know all of them obviously, but it makes for faster typing :) I wonder if there's someone that might know all of them or say 80% of airports in a particular region. I can't imagine it 😅 then again, one would be surprised at what humans are capable of 🙃
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
I imagine most in the aviation sub know quite a few airport codes.

Lan????
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
Yes LAN at heart 😆
dkobayashi@reddit
In most cases we just replace cabin windows because the cost is relatively low compared to hours used to polish scratches
railker@reddit
Some older planes have some parts availability issues, especially back around COVID. Or maybe it was just a way to keep the apprentices busy. 😅 Man does that ever take a long time to polish out.
_gmmaann_@reddit
Why no power tools?
Nof-z@reddit
Handheld Power tools are great for speed, but they are not very precise. You can very quickly go from an hour of labor polishing by hand to 6k in replacement parts with a power tool. Have you ever had to change your own tires? The reason why the lug nuts are on there so hard is because some 22 year old used a power tool to put them on, instead of a proper torque wrench.
metricmindedman@reddit
this is a common misconception: most shops do use torque wrenches; however, a torque wrench is only as accurate as its operator.
i have seen a lot of professionals and amateurs tighten lug nuts (typically w/ a clicker-style wrench), most don't slowly and smoothly turn the wrench, immediately stopping when it clicks; what they do is go way too fast/hard and often "double-check" by applying torque after the first click, which isn't actually double checking anything it's simply adding additional torque to an already torqued bolt.
improper torque wrench use can easily add tens of additional foot pounds to a lug nut; i watched someone demonstrate this once with a meter after barely going past the first click on a toyota tundra – it was 45ft-lbs over-torqued iirc.
_gmmaann_@reddit
I feel like if precision was an issue, people wouldn’t use power tools for polishing and buffing cars, etc.
As for tires, they make power torque wrenches. I use an impact to get my lugs finger tight, so I’m not spinning it for 15 seconds. Then I torque.

Looks like a still from True Detective, I like it even though that wasn't the purpose of the post 👏

Write that shit up
ketchup1345@reddit
Is that the outer window or the inner one? Either way that is really annoying and I feel bad for you
Seniorhusky1@reddit (OP)
Outer

Always a sign to watch out for the Gremlins when flying during a storm for that plane.
