How to compliment a guy's car?
Posted by illium_dreamer@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 65 comments
Hi guys! I have a weird one 😅 I like this guy who's really into cars and I know next to nothing about them besides the basics. He's always really cute about complimenting my things, and I know he goes an extra mile to read up on things I like. I want to do the same especially because I known how proud he is of his and how much work he put into it (he rebuilt it). What impresses you guys if a girl notices about them? Or what questions do you like getting? I don't mind looking into details, but it seems like there's so many things that don't make sense to me yet 😅 Thank you ❤️

Ask if it has a self saucing crankshaft

I prefer honest compliments. You don't have to know how everything works to appreciate an aesthetic or a sound or a detail.
And if you're genuinely curious, the conversation can go on for hours each time you get together.
Damn_you_taco@reddit
Just ask to watch Top Gear with him

Ever seen that South Park episode about Pokemon?
Like that

You areee in looooveee
VictorReszk@reddit
Literally ask any question that is open ended, “why did you choose this car” or “what do you like about it”
Adventurous_Emu_9274@reddit
Find out what kind of car it is. Then say “I love your xxx, what all have you done to it?” Let him go on and on and then say “I love how passionate you are about it, it’s cute” with a smile on your face. Followed by “when can we take it on a roadtrip together?” And go with them. Smile when he gives it the beans and say “I love your car” with a smile.
That’s how I’d love a girl talking about my car even though it’s nothing special. 🤷🏽♂️

' Sick ride (me) ' if its male to male
Alert-Manufacturer27@reddit
Be genuine.
xP_Lord@reddit
Tell him it's nice, ask him why he picked it, ask for a ride
NW_Forester@reddit
"I like your car, I bet I would enjoy being naked inside it."
R87FX@reddit
Step 1: Ask questions. Step 2: Show interest in his answer. Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2.
Pimp_Daddy_Patty@reddit
There's no bigger compliment than asking about the car, what's done to it, or what the plans are for it.
megasmash@reddit
Just tell the guy that you like how clean it is. You don’t need to know much about the technical stuff to appreciate cleanliness.
Honest_Mushroom5133@reddit
The best compliment for a car guy is to be interested in hearing about his car or cars in general.
As a car guy myself I just love explaining to my girls if the ask what is what, what does what, what was I doing on my car etc.
I think most men are similar, so ask him about what he did, what he rebuilt, ask about the process and so on, helps if you really have an interest in hearing about it and not just asking because and who knows, maybe you start liking it and become a car girl yourself.
Powerful-Respond-605@reddit
"Nice car. When can we go for a drive?"
Scazitar@reddit
Yeah i was going to say 99% of women don't give a fuck about our hobby cars lmao. You dont have to try to know what you're talking about, just showing any kind of interest at all will give you a big win.
ElJefe0218@reddit
You know how a girl gets a guy excited? She shows up.
Eziekiel23_20@reddit
Yes. Be direct. I remember one instance where a girl walked up while I was working on one of my cars in the driveway and said a few things about it but I was so focused on what i was doing I completely missed that she was flirting until after she left. Dumb dumb.
nolongerbanned99@reddit
There is always that one that got away. Where you had an opportunity and either didn’t see it or didn’t act on it and regretted it later
According_Flow_6218@reddit
Yep, that should work.
stu54@reddit
It is really that easy. If he's anything like me he will have a paranoid mental episode and say no, but that's his problem.
subarusforlife252@reddit
It’s pretty simple tbh, even complimenting the car and noticing small details would make me smile for days lol. Just ask him about the car and what he’s done to it, listen and observe and you’ll learn all you need to know.
nolongerbanned99@reddit
Just be genuine and honest … the rest will take care of itself
Small-Hospital-8632@reddit
Honestly just say "I really like your car" he would melt.
LrckLacroix@reddit
“I like your car, take me for a drive?”
synthetikv@reddit
Ask him about “suck, squeeze, bang, blow”
BaboTron@reddit
You’re probably overthinking it.
Just say you like his car, and you think he’s cute, and hopefully that starts a conversation.
PurpWippleM3@reddit
Hey bro, I don't know shit about cars, but I know one thing... I like yours. Take me for a drive in it.
_K10_@reddit
Ask him what he's done to it and let him do the talking.
Don't ask him to go for a ride, or to give you a ride. He might dismiss you as a favor beggar
budgetboarvessel@reddit
Tell him his car's [insert cute animal] eyes look cute.
mynameishuman42@reddit
"Nice ride. What does she have under the hood?" If it's a stick shift, tell him that's kinda hot. We manual drivers are a different breed.
RunninOnMT@reddit
Take a picture, post it to r/cars and then ask them for really specific questions about said car so you can ask your crush.
"Look, i don't know much about cars, but i DID noticed you have a 2014 front lower valence on your 2016 model. Was that just to more cleanly wire up your aftermarket fogs or do you prefer the style?"
Novogobo@reddit
the absolute most impressive thing anyone can do as far as demonstrating their knowledge on a subject is to be entirely honest about what they do not know.

NoRegret1893@reddit
Don't try to compliment his car because you might screw that up. If you want him to go gaga just compliment his driving. Trust me on this one.
Nippon-Gakki@reddit
Pull up next to him and do a three gear burnout while maintaining eye contact.
Alternately say “I like your car, we should go for a drive some time”
chibicascade2@reddit
The best thing you can do is ask him about it. I'm sure he'd love to fill you in.

I bet he would

Most girls aren't very interested in cars or want to know much so showing any type of interest and asking questions is enough, ask him to teach you how to drive manual transmission if its a manual, if he shows you proper you should be starting out in a large empty parking lot or empty road
noobcodes@reddit
Nope, gotta start her on a steep incline in bumper to bumper traffic. Trial by fire.

Say this to make him laugh - Could you tell me real quick, what would be a better motor for my Skyline - Gallo 12 or 24?
L1NK1N_P4RK@reddit
Other comments seem to have covered it. But just because I’m curious, what car is it? :)
jrileyy229@reddit
The easiest question to ask is just WHY. Why did he choose that specific car? Why did he decide to "rebuild" it
MinivanPops@reddit
"why did you pick this one?"
Shambud@reddit
Just be curious. If you ask a question and you don’t understand the answer, ask what that means. Example: “What kind of engine is that?” “LS4” “what’s an LS4?” “A 5.3l V8 made by Chevy” “how can I tell by looking at it that it’s a V8? And what does 5.3l mean?”
A dude who rebuilt his car and potentially likes you will be very enthusiastic about teaching you. If not ask when he’ll take you out in it to show you how it feels.
Dnlx5@reddit
Theres this silly anime where a guy takes a girl on a date, and she says "I usually get motion sickness in cars, but not with you driving" its very corny, but I always liked this idea.
Maybe you can compliment the fact that he pays attention to cars/driving? "I like that your a good driver, I feel safe" or "I like this car, it feels different than normal cars somehow"
Effective-Sail-1225@reddit
I am just here to agree with everyone else, just showing interest is enough. My wife does not care about cars, but just because she is the loving person she is, she asks me about it and compliments it, and lets me explain things about it. She will tell me, "I have no idea what that means but I like how passionate you are about it." Talk about the color, the sound, the wheels, anything about it I am sure he will be proud of

Can i stand by your car?

Nice car. Can you give me a ride? 🤣
AC-burg@reddit
Nice car can I see your stick shift? Gets me everytime no more questions need asked.

I love the interior can we look at the backseat?
Dizzy_Veterinarian12@reddit
Ask what he plans to do to it, as far as mods. Aesthetic mods are easy to talk about if you don’t know a lot about cars. Paint work, wheels, steering wheel, etc
Neuroware@reddit
"what did you use to replace the finnikin pins?"
JPLEMARABOUT@reddit
« I love your car, would you bring me for a ride? »
R_A_H@reddit
If you notice any extra work or anything special/different/unique about the car, you can say you like that thing. Then you can ask him about it or about why he got it. Then he gets to talk about a thing he likes and is knowledgeable about. You don't have to pretend to know more than you do but showing interest in his taste/decisions shows that you're interested in him. You could even just do this with the make/model of the car if you don't notice anything unique about it. This "I don't know but I'm interested" is a good approach.
kograkthestrong@reddit
Can we go for a drive? If it has an exhaust as about it. Or if it's low ask about that. Just get him to nerd out and explain and he will be pudding in your hands. Worked for my wife lmao
mytthew1@reddit
Ask what year it is. Ask what engine it has. These questions will work for almost any car. You could get fancy and ask if the engine is stock.
mx5plus2cones@reddit
Learn how to drive a manual gearbox.
Was pretty surprised my GF knew how to drive a manual gearbox, and in a lot of ways had more years with a manual gearbox than me. When I asked why she preferred a manual gearbox, her response was classi...
"a good woman knows how to tug on a hard stick..."
yep... definite keeper...
CarbonReflections@reddit
Just ask him questions about the car he will love to talk about it.
