One of the best experiences I've had at a concert was seeing Lilith Fair in Nashville back in 1998. Sarah McLachlan, Natalie Merchant, Liz Phair, Mary Chapin Carpenter, etc. I'd happily see both Sarah and Natalie again if they came round this way.
Same, I went two years in a row. Camden, NJ in 1997, and Cuyahoga Falls, OH in 1998-- that stop on the tour had a much better lineup than Camden, and I had a friend out that way, so I visited her and we went together. Good times.
I remember telling the girl that I was dating at the time this song came out, that Sarah was hot. She got so jealous she would be pissy and change the channel any time the song played. I remember saying, do you really think I’m going to cheat on you with her, or she would with me?
I hope you’ve lost your jealous nature SD wherever you are.
Me and my best friend saw her at the Austin Music Hall in 1998, we were two of a handful of men in the smallish arena. It started raining, the roof was tin or aluminum, the tapping of the roof with her music was just amazing. My friend liked the gig, I loved it. Might have to spin Stumbling soon ;)
This album is still known in our house as the "London" album. Years ago we used to travel up after work on a Friday night on a 2.5 hour drive to visit various old schoolfriends in London for the weekend. As the traffic became more manic, and the rules of the road became looser and looser, we'd play this CD to isolate from the outside world, and just calm down and watch the big city go by. For me this whole album is associated with the excitement of visiting the capital, the joy of seeing friends from school who'd moved there, and the peace that it brought to the drive. It's just beautiful.
That is funny how different everybody's experience is with music.
This album was a constant when I met my first love. We both loved the album and listened to it often. I think of her when I hear it and the person I was in those days and it makes me happy.
It was also a constant when we went separate ways and the music itself is so lonely and sorrowful - in a good way. It helped mend my broken heart and was calming, but again, very lonely.
Around that time, I started reading a lot of Raymond Carver. He writes vignettes about broken people and broken lives. The music and his writing seemed to pair well.
I have a lot of memories tied into this single album. They are all lovely and I am sure this album will be with me until die.
She's also gives back to the community, my daughter received a placement at her self named school of music for 3 years in the musical theatre program. Totally free. She's a very nice Canadian lady.
Back in 1992, I had just started dating a young woman who was a big fan of Sarah. At the time, she was touring the Solace album. I figured a nice date would be tickets to see Sarah at the Winter Garden theatre in Toronto. That was March, 1992.
I saw her live on what was probably her first major tour, around 1986 or 87. She was the opener for Eric Johnson. My friends and I had never heard of her before and were tremendously impressed. My heavy metal loving buddy actually bought her cassette to bring back and show his girlfriend.

That's funny, but so many guys (and gals) that got the hots for her!

That’s funny, I have a similar story and her initials were SD too! Guess that’s a bad combo.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is a haunting masterpiece of an album.
She has other great songs, like Building a Mystery, but the collective of Fumbling is just perfection.

I was a big fan of her freedom sessions EP. It came out right after...
It was one of the first CDs I had that had an interactive CD-ROM.
If you get the legacy version of fumbling, it includes the freedom sessions.

It really is a special album. It still makes me feel the "feelings" from my youth....

Same. I feel like I am revisiting my past self when I hear it.

Went to the album anniversary concert in Boston last year. Epic.

I bet that was amazing!

We've been married now for 31 years.

I saw her last summer in Atlanta!! Amazing!

She has a painting of herself (and her vocal cords) hidden in a closet somewhere.

Dang, she looks and sounds great.

I was totally obsessed with this song when it came out, I used to leave the radio on in bed just waiting for it and then turning it off afterwards.
Sarah McLachlan was my guilty pleasure as a hard rocker until I outgrew the guilt.

We saw her at Lilith Fair something like three years in a row. So good.
Side note -- was also first time I'd ever heard of Dixie Chicks and they were more entertaining than I expected.

Her performance was the highlight of that concert. So nice to see her!

She barely got out of bed for this one

She’s a goddess.

I saw her at the Lillith Festival. No cell phones, then.
