Moronic Monday

Now in a beautiful automated format, this is a place to ask all the questions that are either just downright silly or too small to warrant their own thread.
The ground rules:
No question is too dumb, unless:
- it's already addressed in the FAQ (you have read that, right?), or
- it's quickly resolved with a Google search
Remember that rule 7 is still in effect. We were all students once, and all of us are still learning. What's common sense to you may not be to the asker.
Previous MM's can be found by searching the continuing automated series
Happy Monday!

Anybody know why we don't have more frequency management at uncontrolled fields, like why I have to hear 8 different airports pattern work at the same time? Why are we only using 4 digit frequencies? I think I saw an answer here one time but I can't find it

TLDR old technology. If we wanted to do 8.75kHz spacing instead of 25kHz, we'd have to ask everyone to spend a ton of money upgrading their radios for it. ADS-B would be a drop in the bucket comparatively.
tempskawt@reddit
That confuses me though, who has to upgrade their radio? We're using 8.75 spacing for AWOS and all kinds of stuff, are there planes out there that are just incapable of getting the weather?
ZOB_oo_land@reddit
That's still 25k spacing.
25k: 120.000, 120.025
8.33k: 120.000, 120.005, 120.100, 120.150, 120.025.

Oh I misunderstood your first comment and I think you misunderstood mine. As far as I can tell, all the uncontrolled fields use CTAFs that are 100k spaced. I'm wondering why they don't use 25k spacing.

For pilots at Republic (or other multi-airline regionals), do you always fly the same livery? Or might you be a Delta flight on one leg and an American flight on the next?

Switching during a day is almost unheard of, but I have switched on different days during a trip. Most are all on 1 partner tho.
grumpycfi@reddit
Typically it's one mainline per trip, although I think more recently at least one of them has allowed mix n' match. Historically that was a no-no because if your Delta flight was delayed and impacted your next flight for United, then United would get mad. If the entire trip was within the same operation then at least it was easier to take the blame.

I’m working on making some PGIs for my CFI, and one of the questions I know will be asked is ‘what is responsible for the nose pitching up/down with additions/reductions in power?’ I of course obviously know this happens, but I’m having trouble putting together a coherent reason as to why. I think I’m just horribly overthinking this. It’s because more thrust is produced right?
sniper4273@reddit
Depending on your aircraft type, it could be
Thrust acting above/below the CG, which crates rotation.
Thrust imparting airflow directly over the horizontal stabilizer, which changes how much down force it creates.

Any discount codes going on right now for Sporty's or any other pilot shops?
I am about to pull the trigger on some A30s and can use all the help I can get!
TxAggieMike@reddit
As we get closer to OSH, expect some “show discounts” to be announced.

Did Moronic Monday go away for a minute or has the algorithm been working against it? I feel like I haven’t seen it in awhile!
grumpycfi@reddit
Sometimes it just isn't popular during the week. Sort by new on Monday morning and you should see it. I'm pretty sure I've seen it every week...
