What’s something that is substantially better now than back in the day?

Minor Incidents u might get the motor. But significant impacts the insures write the car off as they can’t tell what’s safe and what’s not without full tear down of the cells. A woman at work crashed her 1 month old EV into a lamppost. Hit ice and slid into it at about 20mph. But at around 2 tonnes it still made quite a dent in the front. Pushed it back a good way. Didn’t bend A pillars or anything. An ICE car would have been repaired. Hers was written off and she was paid out. I’m also on an island so while it’s a perfect place for EV’s due to distance being no issue, nobody can repair or scrap them here. They all have to be shipped away to specialist breakers to be taken apart. I’m not talking maintenance, that’s not an issue here. There was even a problem where the ferry won’t take them damaged either and they were stacking up. I presume that’s been resolved but unsure how if so. Let’s put it another way. My motorhome is 15 years old next year. It had a replacement engine 2000 miles ago. That would’ve been scrapped if EV. (Granted the MH market isn’t there yet, but let’s just say it’s a van). My car is the same age and my wife’s suv is now 16 years old. I know the motorhome is another debate so lets leave the purchase cost of that out, but all those green miles your supposedly saving money on.. are you?If I was to swap our cars for even 20k each trade in for EV’s that cost is 30 years fuel for us (£50 each a month). We’ve had these cars years and they will last years more and be cheaply repaired if needed too. Even more so if like me u can do the work urself. My BW scirocco id say is worth about 4k at 14 years old. Original purchase price of maybe 25k (petrol 2.0 turbo version). I’ve seen nissan leafs that are 8-9 years old on for under 2k. They were 30-40k in 2016 😳. Less than half my older car and costing way way more 🤷🏻‍♂️ Depreciation is way way off what ur trying to claim. I actually have no issue with EVs. I’d have one if it wasn’t for the fact they don’t save most people any money over ICE and I certainly don’t see them as green with lifespans that will be much much lower. Making the actual cost really expensive. You say all expensive cars depreciate faster. But EVs depreciate faster than ice cars in any bracket. It’s a good buy if ur set on it because of that, ur right, but not when u come to sell it on too.
