Trust the Tories to give tax money to the rich, trust Labour and LibDem to be spineless and do nothing, trust Reform to torpedo the entire country after the next GE.
What are you on about?
True Farage might not show up, just like he never showed up to represent us as MEP and currently doesn't show up to do his job as MP, but Trump's buddy is the last possible person to do anything that doesn't line his own pockets.
At least the other parties make a show of trying to do something to benefit the people, even the rip off Cons. Farage won't even bother with that. He's a complete wastrel.
I don't think there's a sound argument to be made here, the best I can think of is that because Farage hasn't been in power yet he isn't responsible for any war crimes yet.
There is no bigger scoundrel than Farage. Even the open theft from the parade of Tory rip off merchants doesn't come close to the complete collapse he would foist on us.
Remember Farage said the budget under Liz Truss was the best in decades, just before the economy collapsed.
Starmer is a bumbler without the backbone to tax the rich like a proper Labour PM. He needs replacing, but not by Farage. Definitely not by Farage.
Fuck no, never have and never will. They're a bunch of spineless lying parasites who will let a paycheck put thoughts into their heads regardless of what effect it has on our country.
Generally no. And this is a big thing which separates us from the Americans. They put their politicians on a pedestal and treat politics like a team sport. We put our politicians under a spotlight and treat politics with cynicism.
Says the guy calling snp voters cult members.
You’re obviously not to bright buddy.
Yes, the orange order are out marching with their multi generational bigot show on display currently and who do the vast majority of them support as a football club… surprise surprise…
Aye nae bother wee man 😂
Now youre bringing the OO into it, youre all over the place mate. So you only mention Rangers but I not Celtic fans voting SNP because of their team?
And yes, many SNP voters are like a cult as was proven during the whole Sturgeon and her husband being thieving bastards saga. They set up a gofundme for a couple who were stealing from this country. I guess we know where you sit on it 😂😂😂
I’m ‘All over the place’, then responding with that steaming pile of dribble?? FYI, I’m not from Glasgow, nor support either of those teams, stuck in a revisionist version of history and bigotry.
Not how proof works, voting SNP has nothing to do with ‘hating Britain’ and your attempt to play the big man with your ‘wee man’ comment is beyond funny.
I’ll carry on being a grown up and you can keep flinging your childish assumptions around.
You’re hilarious.
Ah so voting based on your club only goes one way. No bother wee man 😂 I think its quite obvious how your wee mind works and I neither have the time or inclination to delve further into it was a wee fud like you mate. Have a smashing day 👌
They have fully members but no. So so so many people just vote for them as the rest are seen as puppets of Westminster.
Look at the voting of SNP in the general election Vs remain Vs leave. Very different numbers.
A lot of that's the brain dead that used to vote Labour, now voting for the SNP, with the same brain-deady-ness.
SNP have been a dumpster fire since the Labour implosion up here.
And all the sensible ones are off the radar and have shut up for a decade+.
For the majority, yeah.
Reform seem to be following the US path of reality TV style politics.
How anyone sees them as anything other than a joke is wild
No. Politicians tank somewhere near Estate Agents in the "massive liar" stakes. All of them, from grifter Farage to two-faced Starmer, via whoever's this week's Tory clown
Generally no.
There are a few i do tend to trust, we have a local torie mp which has always done well by the constituency, has always responded and has raised a few things in parliment that we have requested, would i vote for him yes, would i vote in general for tories hell no.
Thats not what i said is it, havent always voted for them either, there is room for a political party to be generally shit but still have a few good mp's in there.
Idgaf about national politics, i vote for people who will act in the best interest of their constituence.
"Idgaf about this country or its people, just as long as me and mine are doing ok." Typical Tory attitude, taking zero responsibility for the state you and your party have left the country in.
Stop strawmaning, that isnt what i said.
Im not a tory, just want someone representing my area who lives there and actually does shit, maybe if you voted on someome who has got the best intentions for your area you may not have so much knife crime or smack heads in the true north.....
This has been doing the rounds online attracting smug guffaws since at least 2010, but what does it actually mean? We might think that MPs are all just there to line their own pockets, and maybe that's true. But Fawkes didn't exactly tell people in Parliament what he was doing there that day. Why is he considered more honest?
I don't trust any of them, regardless of the colour of the rosette.
The biggest thing for me is when they promise one thing (in speeches and their manifestos) but then go and do the opposite of what they promised.
I trust them to lie to us, cosy up to the rich and feather their own nests rather than doing anything for the vast majority of ordinary people.
But maybe I'm just cynical?
No, it's just a lifetime of following politcs...
There are probably no more than 5 or 6 legitimately "good" politicians I can think of out of ~hundreds
No I don't trust them. UK politics is under constant scrutiny and it's still not enough to get it to change
Lmao!!!! No!
We know theyre all lying corrupt sacks of shit. But we also need them and they know it. So it's about weeding through the empty promises and lies and trying to work out whose policies mostly align with your own, and which is likely to be achievable based on the counties finances. But remember... theres only so much money in the pot. To improve one area means to take away from improving another, or even a decline in others. So it all has to be weighed up. Its great to make all the promises they want but to pay for them usually means higher taxes somehwre along the way or a reduced service in others.
I personally dont trust, nor like, any of them so far.
As a general rule, no. We have so many career politicians and I’m instantly dubious of people who actively seek positions of power. I also believe that there is such global corruption that whoever is in power will always have something the very wealthy can use to leverage.
The height of corruption felt like the Tory gov over Covid times especially- the billions of tax money that was given to truly pathetic tenders from companies with ties to the party (some of whom delivered almost nothing of their quotas) felt like a kick in the collective bollocks after years of austerity measures.
Too many do but we shouldn’t. A two party system means that some people can’t see any difference so they stop caring and don’t vote as they feel powerless.
My crazy idea is to pay politicians a huge salary. But they can't earn money from any other source, no "speaking" fees, no stocks, nada.
It shouldn't be a job to enrich yourself at the expense of the taxpayer.
However, I know there'd be loopholes because humans are awful.
I would keep them on their current salary but they also can't earn money from any other source. They get paid plenty for people without a job description or list of roles they must perform
Absolutely not. Just a few days ago I found out how much politicians were being given by israeli lobbyists. Kier Starmer was paid £50,000. How can I trust that
I think Brits not trusting their politicians or in general establishment figures is honestly something we're born with, or maybe it's in the water...
There is a very long history of distrust from both monarch and parliament, with it being usually healthy skepticism.
Though these days there seems to be extremes.
Hell no. Anyone that actually wants to be a politician is an untrustworthy self important prick and should be scorned. Generally, we just vote for the one we hate least, we know they're all going to dry bum us over a barrel, but we can at least pick the one that's gonna go a bit gentler at it.
By definition, no successful politician *anywhere* can be trusted, it’s more about how much they are willing to act in their short term interests over long term (long term interests means taking into account the publics interests).
Find me a Prime Minister who’s never lied. It’s a difficult balancing act. You have to please so many people while maintaining their confidence. Both the public *and* within your own party (many of whom would happily knife you in the back). No wonder PMs sound untrustworthy, their job makes it almost impossible to be sound any other way.
That’s not so say most of them do a good job. In fact virtually all of them are spectacular failures. But the job pretty much sets you up for that. I can’t see why anyone would want to do it.
Labour, traditionally on the left (who are seeming more right wing by the day) seem afraid to rock the boat and make the drastic changes a lot of voters believe the country needs. They were voted in on a huge majority with a strong mandate, but seem intent on losing friends and alienating people.
The Conservatives genuinely seem to despise the poor, they spout on about how if businessmen ran the government and there was no public sector everything would be better, and somehow have managed to convince large groups of the general public that all of their failures were due to the last labour government, regardless of them being in power for a decade and a half.
Reform are full of criminals and grifters, and are currently led by the best snake oil salesman in existence, maybe with the exception of Donald Trump. Also a favourite place for Tories to run off to when they've alienated their current party to the point of kicking them out.
The Lib Dems, while having some sensible policies, still lack a lot of credibility for shacking up with the Tories 15 years ago and fucking over every student that voted for them, Ed Davey does seem like a fun guy though which is about all I got from his GE antics.
The Greens seem to have a very modern and forward thinking approach, but also sometimes don't appear to know or understand the complexities of some of the things they promise the voters, and I think they scare a lot of people because they seem so "radical". I also don't think I could tell you who their leader is.
I'd be lying if I said I thought any of the big 3 have a good plan to turn the country around, they're all so unambitious and slow that things rarely get done before the next GE rolls around, at which point they'll be ousted anyway for doing bugger all.
I don't trust any politician who willingly enters politics and tries to make it their career.
Well maybe I trust them to make an arse of things.
It's all a game of slopey shoulders.
I just tend to vote for who I think will arse things up the least.
There’s some cynical folks on here.
I think most MPs are generally there because they believe they can improve the country. Even the fuckwits like Liz Truss - I don’t think she’s a bad person, but her views and mine don’t align. And also she’s a fuckwit.
There’s a small number of bad apples, which use inevitable in any walk of life and particularly one where you can exercise power over others. However, I think these are tiny compared to the number of good people - as before, this aside from the fact that i might not agree with them politically.
One problem is that those small number of bad apples, and a malicious media, have managed to erode trust to a huge extent, and it’s severely damaged (and continues to damage) the system. It’s hard to build back trust that’s been eroded away over a prolonged period.
Hard agree. If only everyone who complained about politicians were reminded of the existence of people like Jo Cox (God rest her soul), Caroline Lucas, Jack Ashley, Alf Dubs or Leo Abse.
None of them are/were perfect, but no one can deny they are/were sincere in their desire to make things better for the country.
I'd agree with this, most have good intentions but different views of what good looks like (and for whom). Also, excellent use of the word fuckwit, suits Liz Truss perfectly.
I think the question has less to do about nationality, more so about your own political alignment. As a Brit, do I trust ANY nation’s politician? Nope. Politicians are scoundrels and charlatans. They do NOT have your best interests in heart.
As a nihilistic liberal socialist, do I trust parties like labour more than the tories? Yes, I’d say so. At least labour members are seemingly more willing to look at the state of things through a more rational and realistic perspective.
True. In this capitalist endgame, politicians are just money grabbing hogs. They’ll sooner sell their own grandma for a payout than answer a question on national welfare. At the end of the day, the only politician worth a damn in the UK is Corbyn, and look how they tore him down.
I trust a couple of the local councillors I have met, and overall trust Scot Gov and most MSPs to work in the interests of Scotland and its people, but Westminster is totally corrupt from top to bottom and is incapable of reforming or policing itself. Ministers work for the Oligarchs, Aristocracy and Press Barons that own the country and who lobby, finace, blackmail, and bribe them, the rest are just lobby-fodder who only want to keep ahold of their salaries, expenses, 2nd jobs, and other perks. Most realise after a few years in the Commons that Parliament is entirely dysfunctional and mostly about self-enrichment/corruption. They soon learn that making real / beneficial changes to their constituents lives is better done outwith National/UK Government, which only functions to protect the status quo and the already vastly wealthy.
I don’t trust our current government, anybody who is more interested in Davos (WEF) and thinks Westminster is too limiting does not give a sh*t about british people, so including the mayor of london (3 terms) and the rest of Starmer’s cabinet I do not trust any of them all they do is lie!
Yes. Almost all Brits trust their politicians completely.
This is because to be a politician in the UK, one must demonstrate the highest levels of honesty, integrity, and courage.
They are superior to the rest of us; paragons of virtue against whom even the greatest of us mere proles could never compare.
I think in general most people don't anywhere, with some notable exceptions. Then there's a subsection that will dislike even the trustworthy ones for other reasons.
No. I only ever trusted one. He was my local MP back in the 80’s. Never trusted any since.
Self serving, lying, hypocritical greedy bastards, the lot of them.
No, but they make an exception for any that they have dealt with personally. It is common to hear "I don't vote for him, but my local MP was actually really helpful when I contacted him about that problem".
And some of the lack of trust is a bit performative.
I have to say any MP (from any of the main parties) I have met have been fine and I trusted them, though I might disagree with some of their policies.
I'd wager a small sum that those posting "they are all crooks" have never actually met or talked to an MP.
Clearly not, which is a shame because most of them work hard and have good intentions. Unfortunately, they soon find out that being in government isn't as easy as it looks
No! They lie to get in and lie to stay in. In fact I'd go as far as say I wouldn't even trust your politicians if you are asking me from someone outside the UK.
Don't particularly trust anyone with too much money or privilege either.
No, they're all utterly useless and in it for themselves. Bar none. The corruption is more subtle than in the US because our political system is significantly less financialised, but still abhorrent.
Likewise the civil service.
No, not at all. Labour, Reform, the Tories, Lib Dems and the Greens are all exactly the same in that they are all dishonest, incompetent, untrustworthy scumbags who care only about themselves and their bank accounts rather than the ordinary British people.
The expenses scandal and behaviour during covid (from lockdown parties to handing huge PPE contracts out) in particular massively damaged the trust people have in them.
Maybe if you’re in your early 20’s and full of naive optimism.
But if you’ve been watching a while the answer to your question is: not even a little bit.
Every single government in my adult life has broken most if not all of their electoral pledges.
This one in record time. Who remembers ‘fully funded’ ? Lying c*nts.
We’ve had Johnson ramped up mass migration after pledging to do the opposite and lower migration, Cameron promised to stay on and negotiate Brexit but he ran off with his tail between his legs.not to forget Blair took us into an illegal war and him and Gordon-Brown bankrupted the country.
It is impossible to trust our political class in this country.
In a way yes we absolutely trust them, but in another way absolutely not.
We simply trust that everything they say is a lie and they are going to screw you over.
No. Far too long a history of corruption, spinelessness, dodgy hypocritical personal shenanigans and serving their party's and own business interests above that of their constituents.
I've also met my local MP, a party plant in a safe seat, a man so devoid of humanity and full of wilful ignorance, I have no idea how he dressed himself in the morning.
I totally trust them to be untrustworthy and act out of self interest. They are so concerned with optics that acting in the interest of the people is purely theoretical.
All politicians regardless of leaning or party affiliation are ultimately self serving jobsworths who will bend over backward at the sight of their first bribe. Same can be said for most other countries in the world.
